Loved all food items that I chose & I didn't chose his recommendations so those might even be better. He recommended items with ginger, coconut & traditional delights. We also did not warm up the pastries so that is how delicious the bakery items were Everything was so fresh tasting & hit the spot. I appreciate that things were not overly sweet. My family and I have always used LaLuz Bakery for our birthday cakes and have never had an issue before. That's why we didn't hesitate to order a special two-tier TikTok-themed cake for my niece's birthday on Saturday. Unfortunately, this time was very different. After picking up the cake and heading to the party, we discovered that the cake had completely caved in. The top tier slid off the bottom tier before we even opened the box. I took pictures immediately and contacted the bakery right away. I didn't ask for a refund--I simply asked if there was anything they could do to make it right. Instead, I was told that because the cake had left the store, there was nothing they could do. I even offered to return the damaged cake. Still, the manager on duty, Mario, said he couldn't help and would pass it on to his supervisor. We left the cake with them and walked out empty-handed--no replacement, no apology, no effort to resolve the issue. We ended up going to Sam's club buying two cakes($50 total with tax), and creatively combining them to save the party. Honestly, those cakes turned out better than what we originally purchased for $150.00 from La Luz This experience was really disappointing, especially considering the loyalty and money we've given LaLuz over the years. I'm leaving this review to let others know that if something goes wrong, you may not receive the customer service you'd expect--or deserve. Needless to say, we will be taking our business elsewhere. I feel like it was hard to review this place. I had read so many great reviews that maybe I went in with too high of expectations. To start, there were way more bakery items here than I expected! It was pretty overwhelming, making it difficult to decide what to get (and to figure out what is good). I picked up a variety of different treats: tres leches cake, flan, churros, concha bread, and rice pudding empanada. The results were mixed. As everyone has said, the tres leches cake is superb and is probably the highlight of what they make at this bakery. The other standout was the rice pudding empanada. There are no signs that say what the different pastries are so we picked it out and took a chance. It ended up being a pleasant surprise. Just perfectly sweet. But, it would be nice if they could put up signs so customers can decide what they want without having to ask staff. The churros were pretty hard and stale by the time we got them in the middle of the day. Perhaps they taste better when they are fresh. Otherwise, would not recommend. The concha bread was huge and super soft! But overall, the flavor was light and was not as sweet as I would have liked. The flan I did not mind, but my family thought it was way too firm. Very friendly staff members. Love their tres leches cakes. The cakes are so yummy, fresh and rich and melts in your mouth. They have fresh breads and donuts which are made everyday and they all taste so good. I have tried almost all breads and all are good. They make wedding cakes as well which you can order. They have a wide range of yummy treats and have much later hours than your typical bakery. Everything was well labeled so you knew exactly what everything was while looking around. It would be nice if they also had the prices on the description so you know upfront what you are paying. My favorite treat was the chocolate candy sugar cookie. Customers can load up their own tray and then bring it to the register to be bagged up and pay. I would definitely stop by again to try more of their treats! read more

Variety and cheap prices make this an instant draw for anyone living in the area and looking for Mexican pastries. This is made fresh throughout the day for maximum quality. One drawback is the lack of labeling for different items, but this isn't too difficult to figure out from the little differences in decorations or ingredients on each pastry. Surprisingly, one of the best items I tried here was the cake donut. The cake donut is very soft and moist, full of flavor. The yeast donut is huge, though a bit on the dry side. The cakes are extremely moist, with a nice density to them. The sugar cookies are nice and crisp, with a slightly fluffy and firm dough. I really enjoyed the cinnamon cookie, which had a nice strong earthy flavor and was similar to a biscotti. The apricot pastry had a nice filling, almost like a jam although it wasn't too crispy. The milk bread had a nice light sweet milk flavor, and a pleasant texture. Overall, a nice place to get a wide variety of pastries. I have a very conflicting review. I would have to give the deliciousness on their cakes a 10/10. Their tres leches is what they are known for and make the best in the area. I have had many of their cakes, and they have all been very delightful and the right amount of sweet, which is dangerous because you can finish a whole cake in one sitting if you ask me. I have ordered cakes for over 5+ years and it seems like the service has gone down. The staff has been accommodating every single time but my most recent experience disappointed me greatly. I will have to say that out of the 30 times we have ordered here, they have made mistakes only a handful of the times, but didn't seem to be accommodating my most recent experience. You'll be able to see the difference between a good product versus a product that looked like it was decorated by a child. I was very upset as it was my dad's 51st birthday and the cake didn't look to appealing. I've been a loyal customer for many years. The conchas is what brought me here all the way from midway airport area in Chicago. Someone from work brought conchas from this place and they have been the best conchas I've tasted thus far. The bread feels very soft textured and fine. It is not too sweet but just right. I grew up and still live in a Mexican Chicago neighborhood. I'm so glad I found this place. It'll be my favorite for conchas from now on! The place overall is small and They don't have as much bread variety as mexican bakeries in Chicago, but for a suburb, I think it's not bad. After moving from LA, where I frequented the same panadería since I was a little girl, I was thrilled to find La Luz so close to my new home. Walking in smells heavenly, and they have hand sanitizer as soon as you enter. The bolillo is perfectly soft and has a great flavor and texture. They have a wide range of pan dulce, each more mouth watering than the next. The tamales can be ordered ahead of time, even if it is a small order! The guy working the cash register is always pleasant and everyone greets you when you walk in. Personally, the tamales de carne roja were my favorite. I felt the tamales de raja were more masa than queso, but I would probably get them again if I really wanted some.
