I had just taken the train from Antwerp to Hamburg, a very long journey it was... And I was staying at the Renaissance nearby a.k.a. the 'ssaince-licious... And I was also severely hungover from the night before in Antwerp (too many Belgian beers...) So really I just wanted some pizza, some vino, and a bedtime situation... Discovered on yelp-ola, walked here, sat down right away... Had a bit of a language barrier initially then someone else who spoke perfect english came over and was fine. I've been to La Locanda a couple of times. It's quite a popular place - you can usually get a pretty average meal quite cheap. I was never too impressed with pizza or pasta, preferring some other places in the area, but when my colleagues went there I would sometimes join. I stopped visiting the place after they had served me lasagne that was fridge cold inside and only warmed up on the outside. Pretty disgusting. A year have passed, so I decided to give it another try. I ordered pizza and spaghetti bolognese. Spaghetti had pretty bland taste, but at least we could eat it. Pizza on the other hand was just burned. Not only edges looked like charcoal, it was also severely burned at the bottom on the entire surface. We ate a little fragment and left most of it on the plate. I was curious if the waiter would care to ask why we did not eat the pizza, but he didn't bother to inquire if that's connected to how it looks or tastes. Finally the waiter decided on his own that he deserves a tip for his service, gave me incomplete change and said "Danke". Only after a moment of me not agreeing to this he gave me the rest of the change. read more

One of the best Italian restaurant I've tried so far in Hamburg! Trust me I'm Italian :) Lunches are really cheap, every pizza just for 6€...really good value! You can enjoy several kinds of Italian pasta. I've tried the "zucchini and salmone" and it was really delicious. Dishes are really huge, you won't be hungry after a lunch at "La Locanda". Insides are a bit small and could become crowded around 12.30, so please consider getting here around 12. Arriving into Hamburg late we were pretty concerned that we were going to miss out on somewhere to have dinner. A quick look on Yelp guided us to an area nearby with tonnes of restaurants and fortunately this one was still open. We were the last customers of the night by a distance and decided to go for something easy. I quickly picked the spicy salami pizza. The prices were crazy cheap. 7 euros for a big thin base pizza. The pizza tasted incredible. Flavour perfect, not to heavy and just enough spice. I had it with a pint of holsten and it went down surprisingly well. This is a no frills straightforward Italian style restaurant. Staff were fine, but not overly friendly. Still it was 10pm at night when we wondered in so who can blame them. Pizza was great and at a bargain price to. Great little place if you fancy a cheap & tasty, quick bite to eat. read more

This is one of my favourite lunch spots. I cannot understand how their pizzas and pasta dishes costs less than 6 €. Maybe I don't want to know... According to my Italian co-worker, this is authentic Italian food. Do not expect extraordinary food or service considering the price though. The interior is also kind of messy and full of tables. This means that it gets very crowded during lunch time, and quite warm. The service is still fast considering the amount of people that they serve here. I might sound negative, but I'll still regularly go here and I have been satisfied every time. If you want hearty Italian food, I don't think you'll be disappointed either. read more

I see why all of the Italians at the office rave about this place. It's probably not going to be the best meal that you've ever eaten, but it's going to be good, and it's going to be cheap. My wife and I stopped in for dinner around 6:15 on a Friday night without reservations and we were seated immediately. She got pizza margherita, I had the pasta bolognese, and we had a half liter of wine. Everything was really tasty, and we left quite full. I didn't really pay attention to the prices, and so when we got the check I was mentally expecting €40 or so. It ended up being €24.20. For that price, this place really can't be beat. read more

I've been hearing about this place for a while, as it is very popular among my co-workers. Now I understand why! The prices are very reasonable (~6 EUR) for a good meal, and the quality is good. It also accommodates large groups comfortably (today we were 9). I had the pasta with ragu and mushrooms. The meat was tender and the mushrooms were well cooked. This is for this place around lunchtime, and then this place is a catch! Less than 6€ per meal it makes it crazy good value. That's authentic Italian food for McDonald's money. Let that sink in. Pizzas are Italian style, and although they aren't stone oven, they're still good. So is the pasta. I've been here three times, and the food definitely feels genuine, but it kinda lacks... that extra touch. That is probably explained by how packed this place is. (It's actually a bit fascinating how fast the food is prepared.) Anyway, this brings me to my second problem with this place; it's crowded. And little bit loud. And you feel the stress of the servants. And the plastic table cloths make it feel a little cheap. But then again it is cheap. Really cheap. A nice Italian restaurant which is not pricey with good service too! I've been there several times whilst working in Hamburg and tried it out as it was near to my hotel :) My last visit I had a lovely mushroom risotto, which arrived reasonably quickly and with a nice relaxed feel in the restaurant, dining alone didn't intimidate at all...food was good, service attentive and would definitely recommend for a casual and enjoyable dinner! read more

As mentioned by the estimable Herr Jebsen, La Locanda is owned by the same guy as the excellent Trattoria da Enzo - but isnt in the same league. That said, La Locanda cleverly serves a different market. Its cheaper and quicker - with more standard pizza / pasta dishes and smaller range of standard Italian fish and meat courses. The ambience is certainly friendly and distinctively Italian. The night I went I have to say the service wasn't great and my pasta (spag bol - well sometimes you just have to) was OK without being anything special. But this was more or less compensated for by the general atmosphere. Pizzas are all made on the spot in the big open pizza oven at the back. Other comments seem to suggest a quality product, but I haven't tried one yet. Given its location mid way between my office and my usual hotel I'm sure I will be back when a quick friendly Italian vibe is called for. read more

I'm in Europe. And even though I'm in Germany, I didn't expect the first two of three pizza meals here to be a bit disappointing (although one was kind of obviously the German Little Caesar's...) HOWEVER, La Locanda, on the other hand, was superb. The pizza I ordered (just a simple Margherita) was perfect. The crust was right, the flavor, density, everything. Ordering a Margherita pizza somewhere is a good test to see how they make their pizzas in general. And they didn't disappoint. I mean, I'm writing a review based mostly on a delicious Margherita pizza. That says something. Also went with a salad, and our other dish was Tagliatelle Truffle pasta with parmesan. Also delicious. Why only four stars? The service was a little slow. It was dinner time, but not necessarily hectic. So, the food took awhile, and a little while again when we were ready to pay and leave. No big deal, really. Almost wouldn't have thought of it had we brought sweaters. Regardless, I'll probably make sure to eat here again while I'm visiting Hamburg. UPDATE: Went back again for lunch, Quattro Formaggi/Vier Käse (Four Cheese) pizza was amazing. I may have been delirious, but theirs is likely one of my most favorite versions. Partly because I can't remember a better one. Some people might go there and not see what I mean, but personally, it was one of the best Quattro Formaggi (or just pizza) experiences I will ever enjoy. Compound that with my taking it to go, in a box, sitting by the river between two bridges in the shade on a hot day, with no napkins or even a drink. Five-star food. read more

This is a nice looking restaurant, very cosy feel. Wine racks from floor to ceiling, candles and the typical white and red checked table cloths. It was packed on a Wednesday night when all the other restaurants around seemed to be pretty empty. The menu is a hand written photocopy and for a non german-speaking person I found it hard to see what was written to type it into Google Translate. I eventually settled on prawn spaghetti. They brought out some bread first which was just in a basket, no olive oil and balsamic dip, no butter. They served the main dish pretty quickly but it was quite clear that the pasta was not fresh pasta. What Italian restaurant serves pasta dishes made with dried pasta? There were 2 prawns and the sauce was a bit sparse. So the main course was the main let down, it's pretty much what you'd make for yourself after you get home from work. It was tasty, but I would have expected more. I would give this place a second chance though... and try the pizza! read more

I've eaten here with the crew a few times and have enjoyed my lunch at La Locanda on both occasions. The lunch menu is affordable (mostly 5eu) and their selection is vast. I haven't tried any of their pizzas yet, but have had their spaghetti with seafood and asparagus on both occasions and have enjoyed it thoroughly. The spaghetti is done just right and the sauce is excellent. Service at La Locanda is not sensational (it takes more than a few waves to get the attention of any waiter or waitress - persistence is key) but the food comes in a timely manner and the portion sizes are satisfying. read more

I went here for lunch today - pleasant outdoor seating, and a good range of Italian stalwarts - all your usual pizzas and pasta. The great thing for someone coming from London is that it's all priced at only 5 euros. And that's good value! The pizza parma is particularly good, and they're generous with the parma ham! read more

Not much more to say about Locanda that isn't found in the other reviews. Service is grumpy and impersonal, takes ages when it's quiet to get served, tables are too close together and they totally rush you when they are busy at the weekends (are you sure you want another drink? we have someone waiting for your table) But the food is excellent cheap & delicious, it's a 'proper' italian and I come here most weeks so it cannot be that bad read more

I was at La Locanda last night after a friend recommended it. I have to say I don't understand the outstandingly good reviews on here I found the food to be nothing but terrible. The Gnocchi was basic and tasteless, the pizza was simple I have had much better at dingier places. I understand the cheap and cheerful concept but I didn't think the food was even bearable! The waiting staff are rude, have no manners when it comes to placing cutlery or crockery on the table and didn't seem all that happy that the restaurant was packed (for some reason!) and business for them was doing well! Won't be going back there or recommending it after my personal experience. read more
