El Alebrije Taco Lounge - Los Amigos

El Alebrije Taco Lounge

It was a wet rainy night when we stumbled upon a color taco lounge sign. Lightning striked right…read morebefore I entered the dark and colorful hallway to this hidden gym. Late at night. Only to be greeted by the owner who was an excellent host. The title says it all. TACO LOUNGE! Because the tacos are delicious. As the gen Z would say- fire. They slay. They are serving taste! The guac is fresh. With chips that don't break every time I take a scoop. The tortillas are corn only and from what I can tell- made in house. The drinks are hand crafted from fresh juices! Apparently they have drag shows on Friday! They do have a moderate sized stage area for a restaurant. Def tons of potential here for this restaurant to do big things!

Predicting it now, El Alebrije is about to be all over your favorite Atlanta foodie's IG. Here's…read morewhy: First off, six (6) gargantuan made-to-order tacos in the main taco entree. But not 6 street tacos, 6 meals. I got the suadero, asada, and chorizo which were all phenomenal! My friends also added cheese, which comes quesadillas style, which I will certainly go for next time, as it looked amazing (see pic). Yes, the flavorful corn tortillas are handmade per order, so it takes around 15 minutes to get your plate. But it is worth it, considering only 1 of 4 in our party could conquer all 6 without taking a couple tacos home for a second meal. The drinks though!! We had a round of house margaritas, with an agave topper. Best I've had to be honest. I also had a tamarind michelada, which was so good I'll come back on a live band night for this weekly. Pro tip: the entrance is to the right side of the big steak house. Don't let the Speakeasy style entrance fool you, once you go down the long walkway, it opens up with beautiful lighting, a VIP area, a small dance floor, and a great sound stage for live Latin music and DJs. With the plethora of authentic choices on Buford Hwy, El Alebrije manages to stand out and the serving size and quality drinks will keep me coming back. Highest recommendation!

I came here with my Colombian friend that helped me pick the best options so I could get a variety of items that she rated top notch. I love hotdogs and had to get the Colombian version of one. It's one of the most unique hotdogs I've ever had. It's topped off with garlic sauce, pink sauce, pineapple marmalade, crushed chips, mozzarella, and a boiled quail egg. Omg it's one of the BEST I've ever had! I died and went to culinary heaven. Trust me get one! We also ordered the empanadas, which were just as good. Among the other items we ordered we got a cheese and ham arepa, as well as the bandeja paisa. No complaints here but just praises as the food was savory and scrumptious! They do have a full bar with a variety of drinks to choose from as well as Colombian beers. I was too full to indulge on the desserts but the dessert bar was esthetically pleasing and smelled incredible! The service is great, very attentive. The restaurant gave a homey and cozy vibes. Dress code is casual. They do have complimentary parking. I am definitely coming back to enjoy and try more of the exotic plates they offer. It's not often you see Colombian cuisine, worth a visit!
