    Fajitas Jalisciense
    Karen L.

Okay, I love the place! The place is not a instagrammy type of place, it's not pretty. But the food is delicious, and exactly what I needed to more than satisfy my cravings of what I was in the mood for. Initially, it was carne asada, but then I saw the "Fajitas a la Jalisciense", and it had steak, chicken and shrimp, all for a good price. Came with rice and beans, and 4 tortillas. The taste felt authentic, not too salty, not too foodie, but just real. good. I love that the server greeted me with a smile, but also 5 bowls of toppings (cucumber, lime, pickled onions, green sauce, and red sauce) and they pair with just about anything!! They paired wonderfully with ny fajitas, and if I had ordered tacos, would pair just as good! Honestly, can't wait to be back for more.

Stopped by here the other day for breakfast and was very pleasantly surprised. As someone who lived in San Antonio for 5 years, I was not expecting to have a traditional Mexican spot in Augusta be as good or better than a lot of the places I had there. But when I saw the very hole-in-the-wall looking building and that pretty much everyone working there and eating there spoke Spanish, I knew I was going to have a great experience. I ordered 2 cabeza gorditas, 1/2 bowl of menudo, and 1 pastor taco. Menudo (4.5/5): one of my regrets was living in SA for so long without ever having tried Menudo, and the menudo here made me realize I definitely missed out on some good experiences. The portion for a half bowl was very generous, and there were plenty of large tripe chunks. For those who haven't had it, there is an offal/gamey taste to it but if you are used to that type of food (bun bo hue, tripas, chitterlings, etc) this will be right up your alley. The oregano, onions, and lime really balance it out so it's not overpowering, and there's just enough of a kick if you add some of the peppers. The soup is the epitome of comfort food, and I am excited to have it when cold weather comes around. Gordita (5/5): The main star of the show was the gordita cabeza tacos. The cabeza (cheek meat) was so tender and again, portions were generous with large well salted chunks. It honestly was reminiscent of some of the best cabeza tacos I've had in SA and at 3.50 per gordita (around 2.5 per taco) I think the price is more then fair. The gorditas had good corn flavor just like the tortillas and there was just a slight char to them to add even more flavor. The white cheese and sour cream also added a nice touch. Pastor taco (4/5): Honestly I am unsure if I haven't tried the right spots in SA or if I just am never really impressed with al pastor tacos, but I have never had a truly amazing experience with them. Here as well the al pastor meat is well marinated and decently tender but not mind blowing: it's a safe, solid choice that I would get for someone who might not be as adventerous. X factors: The corn tortillas here are really great. I am almost 100% sure they are homemade, and they aren't too stiff like some corn tortillas I have had in the past. Very soft, subtle flavor, I would get these over flour tortillas any time. You get a serving of them to go with your menudo, and they would definitely go toe to toe with any corn tortillas at San Antonio. Something else that was really nice was the pickled onions. I'm used to getting raw onions at most Mexican places which is the standard, but these pink pickled onions that are pickled with habanero gave a nice kick and really spiced up the gorditas/tacos/menudo. I am so glad I found this spot and can definitely see myself coming back at least once a month. To have a place that would compete with any great taco spot in San Antonio at Augusta is a true blessing, and I can't wait to return.

I have not had a bad meal at this restaurant.... All of their soups are fantastic (Caldo De Res is my favorite), other dishes to try are the tortas, tacos and burritos!!!

Michelada and the amazing taco condiments. Hands down the best Mexican place in North Augusta. #authentico

My absolute favorite authentic place to go. The tortillas, tacos and micheladas are the best combo.

Pretty good Mexican place, very authentic. I got their tacos and it was good as well as their steak fajitas. I also ordered some chips and salsa but sadly the chips aren't home made and the salsas were all way too spicy for me lol. Good service!

I came here one Saturday evening before taking a friend home. The food wasn't half bad at all it was really delicious the only downside of it was that they didn't have a dessert menu. But I truly give it five stars

I don't see how we've overlooked this place for so long. It's tucked behind the main road. Home made salsas, picked spicy onions, limes and lots of cucumbers and radishes great you as you are seated. The chips are crispy and the green salsa packs quite the kick. I had a beautifully made torta Cubana and my wife had the chicken flautas. Both were excellent with all the great salsas, veggies and fresh limes. I was absolutely stuffed and dinner was less than $20 for 2. Excellent authentic Mexican food. We will be back.

This place has the most AMAZING Mexican food! I ordered an al pastor huaraches, which is like a huge taco with meat, lettuce, avocado, etc. It was seriously the best thing I've ever tasted. I wasn't sure if it would be enough, so I ordered a steak taco as well. It would've been enough without the taco, but I enjoyed stuffing myself here. They bring out salsas, cucumbers, radishes and pickled onions (delish!) on the side. Will definitely return. Loved it.

Ordered an assortment of tacos/gordita including barbacoa, lengua, tripas, pastor as well as a queso beef dip and Jamaica as a beverage. Was pleasantly surprised to get some free chips and dip which was decent. Some of the chips were undersalted or a bit grainy/sandy tasting but the salsa was decent. Tacos Barbacoa (4.5/5): Their best taco for sure. Very tender pieces of shredded meat, not too fatty but still very flavorful. Reminiscent of the cabeza taco at la jaliciense. Tacos Lengua (4/5): Good amount of lengua pieces that are also pretty tender and tasty. All their tacos are salty enough, and I liked how the lengua pieces were cubed into smaller pieces than other spots. Beef queso dip (4/5): Rich queso with ground beef mixed within, a decent appetizer for sure and would recommend ordering this. Tacos Tripas (2.5/5): I asked before ordering if they would be pretty crispy as this is how I enjoyed Tripas in Mexico city, San Antonio, etc. and they confirmed it would be. When I received it, very few pieces were crispy and many of them were oily/soggy. Some tasted slightly burnt. Although the portion of meat was very generous, I felt the quality could have been higher. Gordita Pastor (3/5): The tacos pastor also had decent portions and was well seasoned, but the issue was that it lacked tenderness and was pretty firm. The jamaica was a bit too sweet. They provide beans if you order 3 tacos but will increase the costs to accommodate this, I would request no beans and just order the tacos a la carte in the future. Overall, it is still an authentic Mexican spot in North Augusta and pricing is fair, but I prefer La Jaliciense by a fair margin for the variety and quality of meat within the tacos.

I love their abundant meat options, which are basically any meat and style you can think of. Their elote/esquite was ok and i think probably very authentic, but i prefer the (undoubtedly less authentic) version where it's just a little bit of corn in a huge cup of mayo. The service is amazing. They are so nice, and when our little one was having a rough time the waitress came over and tried playing with him and helping out. Every time a server would pass by they'd stop and smile at him and you could tell he was the most popular guy in the shop. The -1 star is just for the ambiance, which is fine but nothing spectacular. It can get quite loud, and the fluorescent lights are very bright and a little off putting. It's a fine place to get great Mexican food, it's just not the most pleasant place to eat.

If my rating was only for just splitting a large pitcher with some friends, it would be a solid 4. Unfortunately, the food brings the rating down to a 3. As someone from Texas who is very familiar with tex-mex offerings, I was not very impressed by the multiple food items I have had here. Any option with chicken essentially is very fibery, dry shredded chicken breast. Prices are more expensive than other mexican or tex-mex spots but with smaller portions. Pictured below is one of the items I got in the past showing the shredded chicken inside slathered with sour cream on the top. Sides of mexican rice or beans are not the best either. I have had the food 2-3 times here and now pretty much only order the beer if stopping by here with friends. It's far from my first or even middle pick when it comes to mexican food, but you can't get beer for much cheaper at a dine-in restaurant, and the chips and salsa are a bonus.
