Shout out to La Hacienda in Derby just off K-15. Wife and I stopped by for lunch today 04/04/26 and was pleasantly surprised by the taste, quality and quantity of each of our meals. Our meal began with the customary chips and salsa and we added a small queso which was more than the both of us can eat in one setting even though we tried our best. She ordered 1 chicken enchilada, rice and beans off the lunch menu. I ordered an enchilada and burrito off the pick two or three items with rice and beans included. The atmosphere was quiet and calm, our order collection technician was absolutely amazing and attentive from start to finish. To be completely honest our first consideration for Mexican inspired fare today was Casa Martinez (a long time family fav) but we decided to try something new/not new. We had talked about trying La Hacienda for years but just couldn't break the habit forming food at Casa M. I'm very happy we stepped out of the norm and make the visit. We had a carryout order. We ordered the Queso Fundido. It was the consistency of water. It was very busy when we picked it up. I suspect they watered the dip down to make it stretch further due to the high volume of business. I had quesadillas. They were subpar. The best thing about the dinner were the tortilla chips. Food: Slightly under-salted but good overall. Their menu is vast and it seems like they pull from all over Mexico to check a lot of boxes culturally. The salsa was so mild - like extra mild - so we asked if there was a hotter version and they obliged. The quesabirria was good and the enchiladas were also. The chips are little thick for my liking but overall I would go back. Service: The waitress was all over the place and we had to find her to get our check paid but she refilled our beverages and was nice enough to be going on with. Ambiance: The vibe was touristy Mexican- like but in a slightly good way. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it. It doesn't feel like a traditional Mexican spot but it also doesn't feel like a fast food Mexican place either. Ordered a fajita quesadilla for lunch.... Go to pick it up and it was the dinner one cause apparently you have to specify which one (makes no sense beings it was 11:50am. When I phoned in order. Overall, I would give this place 2 to 3 stars. The staff isn't all that great either. I feel employees have been working there so long they've got that,I don't care attitude. Ordered: Arroz con pollo and Margarita. The restaurant is large and good for large groups. It was recommended for the margaritas they offer. The service was fairly quick considering it was midday Saturday. My first margarita had red flakes and I requested to have it changed thinking it's just a small error. When two other drinks at my table add flakes, I asked what was happening. The waiter explained it was the tajin from the fruits, which left me a bit confused since it wasn't spiced margaritas. The other ladies did like their drink. I am always wary of waiters not using a note pad. I was not surprised when my waiter had orders incorrect for our table of 8. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. The chicken was okay but salty. I'm sure I can find another Mexican restaurant while here. This is one-stop for me. My experience was horrible, I went in to order carry out, at first, I was brushed off by the hostess multiple times, then the "gentleman" that took my order was extremely rude, rushed me to take the order, and cut me off as I was speaking. When I got the food, it had a chemical taste to it and there was barely any cheese (which I specified in the order). La Hacienda was the first restaurant I visited since the restaurants re-opened during phase 1 of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The service was outstanding and the restaurant did a very good job at social distancing. I really enjoyed the food and my dinning experience. It first time we though we really liked the food and the service but the second time the food was not as good and the service was almost nonexistent. We went out for family dinner There were 3 of us my wife ordered a Chile poblano I ordered beef burrito With nacho cheese sauce, my daughter had homemade guacamole Add steak fajita nachos. My daughter was the only one of us that really enjoyed her meal she said that her steak fajita nachos and homemade guacamole were really good. When we got served the chili poblano it was full of oil and the waiter had spilled the oil across my cellphone on to my table and on to my pants. My meal was unappetizing as the beef was loaded with onion, and the tortilla had a freezer burned taste to it. The chips and salsa was tolerable as the chips tasted good but the salsa tasted like canned pizza sauce. The table next to us was dirty after they wiped it down along with the floors. They get 2 stars because my daughters meal was good. Otherwise, save yourselves the stomach ache. To top it of lf, they charge for the after dinner mints. No no no, A thousand times no! Place is overcrowded don't know why. The meat (beef) is fatty and over done. It tastes like it has been out all day. The cheese sauce is a mass glob of yellow cheese. The salsa is ok nothing special. The wait staff is nice and prompt. The prices are normal for this toe of food and restaurant. I had high hope for this place tired it twice I'm out. I'm pretty upset. The flavor of the Texas Rice was amazing, but the rice to everything else ratio was off. There was barely any rice in my "Texas Rice". I'm also upset because I placed mine and my co-worker's orders online and chose curbside pickup. I'm high-risk/diabetic so try to do curbside as much as possible. I followed all your instructions (texted the number back with a "1") and someone responded saying, "Awesome! We'll be right out!!" and then no one came out. I waited 10 more minutes thinking maybe our food wasn't done yet even though I arrived at the time it said it would be done. Then I went to my email and clicked the "I'm here" button. The webpage told me someone would be out soon with my order. I waited another 5 minutes. No one came outside. So then I called and said "Hi, I was just wondering if my order was ready because I texted the number for curbside and someone said they would be right out." The lady on the phone was very rude and said "No, we don't do that, but your food's been ready. It's sitting on the counter." So I go inside and sure enough, my food is sitting on the counter getting cold. By the time I got back to work, the food had been done for nearly 35 minutes and was cold. If you're not going to do curbside pickup, you should probably not advertise that you're doing it. I'm also frustrated that there's no nutritional information on your website. As a diabetic, this was quite frustrating. I've been a loyal customer for years so I hope you take this feedback and make the necessary changes. Thank you. read more

The rice is amazing and the Texas dip is crazy good. The rest is meh. (Our waitress was hit and miss. Had to ask other waiters and manager for drinks, napkins and hot salsa as she would forget or something and be out of site. They have crispy flour tacos but not deep fried like I asked for. Disappointed and I was charged for something from the regular menu and not the lunch menu as i had inquired about without her explaining the options.)Won't be back. Food was room temperature. My favorite thing here is the Texas dip!!! I've now discovered the Texas rice (the dip served on top off Mexican rice). So good!!!!

We haven't been to la hacienda in a while, we just went back today, and some things changed, first off, the salsa was more tomato water than everything else, with some other things thrown in, it made my dad cry, not from being spicy, which it wasn't, but because the acidity took off a layer of tongue meat. The queso had a layer of grease gathering on top, which I thought was not very appealing. The quesadilla was ok, short of all the grease, which could have filled a 5 gallon bucket. Today we went to La Hacienda in Derby. Located right on K15, they are easy to find. Their menu has entirely too many options and the tacos are scattered all over the place. Some here, some there but not just a page listing what they have. I finally went with 4 tacos. Before I dive into the first taco, I notice that each of the tacos are filled with meat. And I mean full. So we are starting on a positive not. I started with the Pork taco. It was nice and tender but had little flavor. The chicken taco had an interesting flavor. Note that I said interesting, not good, not bad...just interesting. With lime and some salsa, it was almost yummy. I tried the ground beef taco next and the best word to describe it is drippy. Tons of grease leaking everywhere. The steak taco was alright. There was nothing special about it. The flavor was just OK. The meat itself was tender but just lacking in overall deliciousness. The price was fair for a sit down restaurant, $11.14 for 4 tacos, before giving the tip. IF I was in Derby and IF I didn't want to drive to Wichita for better tacos, I would return. They weren't particularly bad but they weren't particularly good. Pretty average all the at around. read more

This my favorite Mexican restaurant! Their salsa is perfect and their chips are always crisp and not too thin. The queso is a queso blanca and it's mouth watering, you can get it poured over about anything on the menu. The also have table side guacamole, so good. Also, the bar here is beautiful. So this all started Monday night when I decided to order some la hacienda for me and my wife at around 8:30 through GrubHub I made the order I posted it it was $70 in change hour goes by the drop off order time keeps readjusting and updating so around 9:30 I call the restaurant they had no clue about my order had no idea that I had made in order to GrubHub I gave them my order over the phone figured GrubHub would just pick it up and bring it to me..... I was wrong again so I had to end up canceling order completely and then dealing with my own refund the restaurant had want nothing to do with it told them it was between them and GrubHub the restaurant told me too bad it's between the customer and grab we have nothing to do with it I said you have everything to do with it when I call you personally to make my order and you cease to do that I was going to come in and get my order but know the restaurant I closed and they did not make my order they had an hour I talked to the manager on duty I talked to the general manager that was off that evening they come to my meal and I still had to deal with my refund on my own okay no problem two days goes by I go ahead and call in to redeem my comp meal the general manager has no problem and doing that for me I still had to figure out a way to get to the restaurant as he was making no effort into making sure that I got my meal and my family was sad even though all the trouble I went through I still had to figure out a way to get my food okay no big deal my responsibility anyway I go to get my food a man from the back comes out with the bag I specifically gave the general manager word for word my order wrote it down in a text message and sent it to him the man in the back with the bag comes out looks at the ticket on the side of the bag looks through the bag I asked him then is everything in there yes sir everything's in here are you sure I give him the benefit of the doubt and ask him again yes sir everything is here okay thank you very much I appreciate everything you guys have done you have a good evening I'll walk out get in the car get home start unloading the bag and my main appetizer is not in the bag now I'm upset how's the restaurant going to charge someone 12 bucks for an appetizer get gone through the bag look at the ticket and then have the customer ask are you sure everything is there you're positive and to have this employee look me dead in the eye and say yes everything is there and then get home to find that the one thing that you wanted was not even in the bag and you paid 12 bucks for it now you're still fighting with GrubHub to get your refund back and on top of it almost every item that we ordered was cold and I don't mean just cold cuz everything had cheese on it it was hard cold now we sit here with $70 worth of congealed cold food that is just disgusting I've been eating at the other la hacienda on the west side of Wichita for 10 years no way ever they would never treat a customer like this I give props to the west side if you're going to eat at this restaurant eat at the West side store do not eat in Derby you will be just disgusted them employees should be ashamed of themselves they need retrained and they need new management so anybody out there looking for a job and know what you're doing I'd put an application in because employees that have out there right now can't even count to six to the number six it's a shameful unprideful restaurant they need to be reviewed gross read more
