When we arrived the waiting area and vestibule were full to bursting. Despite this, we were sat in a mere 20 mins. Even though every table was full the wait staff were attentive and friendly. I ordered the Chile Verde which was so flavorful and certainly had a bite to it. I also tried the Pollo a la Crema which was absolutely outstanding. Love the food, the front of the house experience is very poor. Walk in the door, no welcome greeting just a pissed off facial expression. The waitress was no better, asked for water twice and never received. Very disappointed, a little customer service would be welcome. The last several times it has not been any better. Yeah. That's right. I did it. I bumped these dudes up to 5 stars. I just had the fajitas carnitas and straight up ran to yelp for a review! Here's a little bit about the carnitas. 1. They were made on the surface of the sun. Super hot!!! Like really hot. Not spicy hot. You're gonna go to the ER if you don't slow down hot. 2. It's hard to eat them slowly because they were absolutely amazing!! Could just be that I don't have taste buds anymore but I'm pretty sure they were good. Maybe the best carnitas I've ever had. They were pretty busy, always are. We waited about 10-15 minutes and once we ordered we got our food pretty quick. At least impressively fast for the round trip to the sun and back. First off I only rated 3 stars because the food was LEVELS above the service... our server named "Eduardo" was one of the worst that my family and I have ever experienced. We had to ask for almost all of our refills, asked another server to have our server come take our food order after waiting 15-20 mins to take our drink order and then 15 mins to GET the drinks. Very disappointed but decided we'd give them one more chance. We got there around 6:30. There were roughly 8 people ahead of us (maybe three groups). There were two open tables at the time that had been cleared. We decided to sit at the bar. There were four seats open at the bar but none had been cleaned. I have eaten in several times and each time found the experience enjoyable. Recently I tried their special dinner to go. Living about 5 miles from their Maize location had me wondering if my food would be hot when I got home. My sack held two styrofoam plates,loaded with delicious fair. Shredded pork tamale,chicken enchilada,spicy beef taco a tostada and to check my taste buds a Chile relleno, and of course rice and pinto beans. Al Agave's signature tortilla chips were crisp and helped me scoop up the leftovers. Honestly it was to much for one setting,so I finished it off as a late night snack. I came to town for my grandmother's funeral. After the viewing we made reservations for 40, on a Sunday night. They had plenty of notice that we were coming. We showed up and they directed us to a room that would hold 30, saying they had tables set right outside for the last 10. Well, we had the 40 show up, and they had ONE waiter available to take care of us. And that poor man worked his butt off. However, it is hard and time consuming for one person to manage a group that size. There were no food expeditors, or anything. Just one man. We were there for over two hours, the rest of the restaurant had cleared out and we are all waiting to check out. It finally became enough and everyone just went to the bar to gather checks and pay. Again, they knew we were coming for DAYS and were not prepared. I do not blame the waiter, that is management. As for the food, it was pretty good for the price. We had noticed El Agave signage about 2 months ago and about a month ago we called their Wichita location and asked whent to expect them to open. We were told thatit would probably be in another 2 weeks. At that time we had review the Wichita location's Menu. Since it's so convenient to my Husband's Chiropractor -- we wanted to try it. I have to agree with 'Kassandra W's Review -- the Food was quite good but the Service was challenged. It seemed like they were either Overwhelmed or Understaffed -- either way it was an interesting experience. I teetered between a 3 and a 4 on this Review, but our Server was running @ and trying hard. When we 1st arrived the Hostess said that it would be a moment. Then a Server walked by a few minutes later and said the same thing. A somewhat Snarly Hostess came back and sat us at a Table with Chairs and gave us menus. The Hispanic Gentlemen behind us were given a Booth. Both my Husband and I noticed it. Our Server, Miguel, came by for our Drink Order (which was Margaritas on the Rocks). I forgot to ask for a glass of Water, as well. Someone came by and slapped down a Basket of Chips and Salsa. It took a long time to get our Drinks, but it appeared that our Server had to make our Margaritas. When he brought our Drinks -- I asked for a glass of Water and we both ordered Tacos Al Pastor. I did ask to change our plates to Refried Beans instead of Charro Beans. And one plate with Corn Tortillas and the other with Flour Tortillas. Miguel kind of ran by and threw my Water on the Table. My Husband was commenting on how bland the Salsa was and I suggested adding some Salt.. It took a while to receive our meals. But when they did arrive -- our meals were quite good. The Refried Beans were DELICIOUS and the Al Pastor Salsa was deliciously spicy! We ate, we chatted and we waited and we waited for our Server. We needed a box to take home our Leftovers and our Bill. Finally, my Husband kind flagged down another Server and told him that we needed our Bill. Miguel showed up with a Box and our Bill. He processed our Biil quickly. I sm sure that they needed the Table! While sitting there -- I decided that they need a Full Time Busboy on the Weekends. Worst experiences at a restaurant at Algave on North Mazie road. Female staff seemed overwhelmed. Didn't know how to deal with there customers. Wait for a hour and still didn't get seated. *Full disclosure, I enjoy their Rock Road location and I intend to update this review after they have a few more months under their belt at this new location. We went last night (Friday night around 8:30pm) for the first time. We are told they have been open for about three weeks at that point. After being seated I just sat back and watched the room the whole time we were there. My biggest takeaway was that it was nuts that it appeared that none of the familiar faces from the east side location were on hand to help get this location up and running. It honestly looked like rookie night and none of the staff appeared to have any kind of system for service. I'll start with the biggie in case you don't want to read further. Family sat down about 20 minutes after we arrived. They made comments about the AC that was definitely turned down way too low (I saw three different people go to their cars for jackets while we were there). They end up moving to a booth. Their food takes a long time to come out, which seemed par for the course for everyone. About five minutes after they start eating they call over the waitress who then calls over someone who appeared to be the bar manager. The dad of the family is holding something down on his plate with a fork at this point. We all watch as he reveals a live cricket that was in his food. They are disgusted but staff keeps trying to offer new food. It was pretty gross and three tables witnessed the whole scene. A couple sitting by us had clearly been waiting a long time and asked where their food was. Waitress finally brings out the woman's plate but they guy's plate doesn't arrive for another 5-10 minutes. Her food is getting cold at this point. They ask to pay for their beer and leave. Manager guys gets involved again but the couple is too bummed out to stay any longer. Waitresses didn't seem to have any organizational system as to who covered what area. They overlapped one another but drinks, chips and food still came out late or not at all without having to track down the third/fourth person to help. Waitresses seemed completely disinterested and wouldn't focus on customers while they ordered. One TV was off, one was on the Dish Network info channel, one behind the bar was on the programming guide and the other behind the bar was on CNN. Details are not only lacking, they don't seem to exist. The east side location is a good spot with some great staff. This location DESPERATELY needs veteran staff and management onsite ASAP to save this place before word of mouth wipes them out before they have a chance to find their footing. I want this place to succeed, I don't want to have to drive across town to get a fix. This is a completely repairable situation, they just need to tap into their existing staff/management to right the ship. read more

I was a bit hesitant to even try this place after reading some of the reviews. And the poor rating is well deserved. I ordered the seafood enchiladas and a house margarita. My plate was gigantic..with 3 tiny enchiladas in one corner and some lettuce in another and a lot of empty real estate in between. The tortillas were microwaved with some shrimp bits and one came with an unidentifiable piece of something off the grill along with the flavorless shrimp. The enchilada sauce was similar to the sauce in canned spaghetti I ate as a kid ..completely awful. The margarita was equally disappointing.. I won't even get into the lousy service as this establishment isn't worth anymore of my time . read more
