I really enjoyed our tasting experience at La Fuente last weekend! I purchased a Groupon for two tastings a while back, and Hubby and I finally had a free weekend to make it down. I was expecting the usual "belly up to the bar" wine tasting, but instead we were escorted to a back room that was set up with tables, candles, etc.-great atmosphere. We were seated with two other couples who were so much fun! We tasted five wines-two white and three red. They were all pretty good, but I enjoyed the whites the most (which is typical for me). The staff introduced the wines and talked about them to the entire group while another staff person poured, which worked out well. The pours were very generous, so keep that in mind when deciding who is driving home. The tastings came with a small plate of cheese, crackers & fruit. We were also given chocolate to pair with one of the wines, and an enchilada at the end (which was a little blah for me). It was a decent amount of food, so don't stuff yourself before coming. Hubby and I have done quite a bit of wine tasting, it's kind of a hobby for us, and this was one of our better experiences. Overall, we had a great time with the people and the wines (took home 6 bottles) and will go again. In fact, I already bought another Groupon for 4 to bring my parents when they are in town in May. Found this placing when hunting for a local winery for my group and I to enjoy. This place is in an industrial park which is really strange for a winery, right? But I figured it can't be all bad if the few reviews it had were good. So I decided to give it a try. First the reservation. It was as simple as picking up the phone. Cindy is one of the sweetest people if ever talked to. She kindly let me know her concern for booking large groups but was still willing to accommodate our party. The day of the event, only half of my RSVP's arrived. Grrrr! Cindy was unbelievably understanding. I was of course mortified but she handled it with grace and understanding. We continued with the tasting as scheduled and felt very welcome and appreciated. The tasting. WONDERFUL! Completely unpretentious. We learned so much! Cindy spoke as if we were all friends. Let us ask all of our dumb questions and had an answer for them all. Very knowledgeable! The venue. When you first step in, it's an office setting decorated as sort of a dining space. You then walk thru the office to the warehouse which has been converted into a wine tasting room with fabric, dressed tables and candles. Very dimly lit. Cased product lines the walls around you. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at La Fuente "winery". I put winery in parentheses because it's not really a winery, but a warehouse that distributes wine to restaurants around the area. We sat down and our wonderful hostess Cindy gave us a bit of Chardonnay to sip while we waited for the rest of the groups to arrive. It's not the prettiest of places (exposed insulation in the ceilings, giant AC unit above your head), but they spruced it up with chiffon and candles. When everyone arrived they brought out crackers, cheese, fruit, and almonds to snack on for the white wine courses, which included a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon Blanc. The red wine courses were paired with dark chocolate and a cheese enchilada (pretty good, but very plain). We had a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Merlot, and a Carmenere. Overall a very good experience. I liked that they don't blend their wines and every wine was made with 100% of its respective varietal. I will be returning!! Oh and the $26 for 2 people Groupon was great!! read more

Me and 3 of my girlfriends went here this past Saturday to celebrate my birthday. We had reservations for the 4-6pm tasting class. Well due to the driver of our carpool and the traffic on 610 we were running very late. Next thing I know, I'm receiving a call from La Fuente checking on our arrival time. To my pleasant surprise, (I was getting kind of bummed while sitting in traffic because I realized that we were missing part of the class) Ms. Cynthia says over the phone that since we were close that she'd wait for us!!!!! OMG! I was so thankful for this! I couldn't believe that she waited 30 minutes for us to begin the presentation so we didn't wind up missing a thing. That is very uncommon! The outside/location doesn't do this place any justice. Pulling up we didn't know what to expect but again was pleasantly surprised once we entered the tasting room. It was very quaint and nicely decorated. On to Ms. Cynthia, I had spoken to her on the phone prior to this tasting class so I already knew that she was very pleasant. She is PERFECT for her job! She was extremely personable and made wine tasting light-hearted, fun and comfortable (as some places can be intimidating). Ms. Cynthia also gave myself, a girlfriend and another patron a free glass of Blanc to Blanc I believe it was since it was our birthdays! I would highly recommend a visit to this place! I plan on returning for date night!!!! You taste 5 wines but also have the option of trying additional wines of interest. They even sale by the glass!! Of course there are bottles available for purchase as well. The glass of wine (I had the Purple Malbec which was great!) was only $5. I thought this was very reasonable. La Fuente has a lot of good things going on! The store is located in a very industrial area - in fact the back room where you do the tastings is basically a small warehouse with exposed insulation and everything. However, they've jazzed up the decor in order to provide an intimate setting. They offer a plate of nuts, fruit, cheese and crackers to nibble on while you sip your wine. Occasionally they will offer suggestions on what goes best with what wine which was helpful. If you arrive in a party of two you will likely be seated with other folks at a table, but don't worry, you don't have to share your cheese lol. They were fairly generous with their pours, and the explanations of the different types were tastefully brief. She explained each one in detail in regard to how to tastes, how it's made, etc but didn't go on and on like some wine connoisseurs love to do. The lady that thought the class was so nice and attentive, I was running a little late because of the rain one day and she waited for me (10 min) to start the class I thought that was so nice of her. This place was a blast. It is housed in an office center but once you walk inside it's another world. We were taken to the back to sit and the area was draped in old world charm. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. The owner even sat and drank with us for a while regaling stories of his wine experience. I was impressed, its not really a winery. It's a location in a strip center that offers wine tastings. The room where the tastings are held is nicely decorated. They bring out cheese, crackers, grapes plate, and with every other wine tasting a little food or snack is offered. There was dark chocolate and enchiladas to name two of the three. There are five different wine tastings and the portions are nice. Free wine glass. I enjoyed it and took my brother for Father's Day gift. We had a group of 10 and were crammed on a smaller table in the corner. Luckily, we're all friends, but it was not comfortable. We could see the insulation above our heads, and the "decorations" that other reviewers are talking about are stacked wine boxes and sheer curtains. The "romantic couch" is a futon. Lastly, the wine wasn't very good. Granted, I have friends with developed palettes, but the wine "virgin" that we had with us wasn't impressed. Tried calling and was sent a automated text message with "I'm in a meeting call me back later " . Then I sent them a email and never got a response . So for being ignored on several occasions is why I rated this a 1 star . Such a shame would have loved to have taken family there recently while they were in town. This is certainly not a "wine country" kind of winery....it is a storefront. That said, and absent any real ambiance, it is made up for with good wines an extremely friendly staff. We went to a tasting scheduled through a social coupon deal we purchased. As is so often the case with those deals, the merchant is made VERY busy because of it. Most of the time, I've seen that merchants just cannot handle the influx of business and you are greeted by stressed out, overwhelmed, and even rude staff. Not here. They were clearly busy but we were acknowledged as soon as we arrived and while standing and waiting for a place to sit, we were each handed a glass of chardonnay with a smile. OOOO-kay. I'll wait for a while when I'm greeted that way! They *GET* customer service - that is clear. We did the wine tasting for 2 offer from groupon and really enjoyed the experience. They gave us 5 different Chilean wines (2 whites, 3 reds) over the course of around two hours. The host was extremely courteous and waited a few minutes past the start time to give everyone who was running late a chance to arrive. All 5 wines that we had were excellent, and the pours were very generous. This is a great way to try out some different wines if you're not a wine connoiseur. Bottles were also very reasonably priced at ~$15 a bottle. I would definitely recommend giving La Fuente a try. read more

Used the Groupon. Everything started a little later than scheduled, due to a party they had before our tasting. Some of the other groups sharing our tasting were running late, so they wanted to wait to see who else showed up. If we're going to sit around and wait to see if others arrive, at least give us some wine to sip on. The whole process was dreadfully slow and awkward. The class should have been half as long, and employees should be pouring wine, while the host is describing the wine and country. Instead, the host stumbles through a presentation for what seems like an eternity, while the assistant stands by. Once the host is done speaking, the assistant is then instructed to begin serving the wine. She would then go around one by one, rinsing out each persons one and only wine glass, then serving them wine. There were probably close to 20 people in our tasting, so this took some time. The host eventually began helping serve wine, but the process was still slow. The Chardonnay was the best but just okay. All downhill from there. The Carmenere, which is their signature wine, is just bad. I see why it is not a more widely grown grape. The host lady was very nice, which is the only reason for 2 stars. read more
