What can I say about L.A. FRANKS? It's a quirky little spot on Water Street North. Their menu signs are playful and bright. They've got terrific staff. They serve burgers, fries, shakes, hot dogs, poutine, onion rings, chicken and ice cream. It's home of the Holey Burger and fresh cut French fries. And they carry all the fixings you want on your hot dogs. Since 1993 they've been at it running this joint for 30 years which has become a Cambridge fixture. You cannot miss the bright yellow awning and colourful signs as you pass by this bright landmark. They're open rain or shine. From 11:30-8 daily. They sell sodas along with an ice cold drinks like their Strawberry Lemonade. It's pink and fruity, sweet and sour. Honestly they have the best chili cheese fries. Topped with zig zags of ooey gooey orange coloured cheese sauce that makes it oh so good. Also ate a KRAUT DOG - which comes topped with sauerkraut and bacon. You know the saying that there's always room for ice cream? They serve Shaw's Ice Cream made from 100% Canadian Dairy Cream in Southwestern Ontario. Carl Shaw founded Shaw's Ice Cream in St. Thomas, Ontario in 1948 but Tillsonburg is home to their new ice cream production facility. L.A. FRANKS serves up ice cream in cones, and they also make thick 20 oz Malted Milk Shakes, plus good old fashioned Ice Cream Floats. Great spot to grab a quick bite with a nice view! Who doesn't love fresh cut fries!!! Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was popping! More seats can be found over the hill. Got the frits as recommended by a friend, strawberry lemonade and a cheese burger, and it was all great and made fresh! Definitely will be back if I'm around the area! read more

Fun selections and a great twist on hot dogs. Service was great, we have been there twice and their recommendations were awesome! Outdoor picnic tables with open air seating is great...bring Canadian cash...we are from south of the boarded and used to credit cards, so our first attempt was a sad realization that we need to get some USD exchanged to CAD. read more

Great spot by the water! Stopped by here on a nice sunny day, and got ice cream in a waffle cone. You can pick two flavours for regular size ice cream, and I went with raspberry truffle and pralines and cream. I wouldnt go for the raspberry truffle one again (tasted like sorbet and vanilla ice cream mixed together), nor pralines and cream (too much caramel and not enough pralines). Next time I want to try the dark chocolate peanut butter and maple walnut. My friend got the turtles flavour and loved it. Waffle cone was lovely - apparently made in house. After eating my ice cream and chilling by the water for a bit, went back for some fries. Got the southwestern (bacon, fried onion, and chipotle mayo). That reaaaally hit the spot. The fries are great, and on top of that the chipotle mayo had a spicy kick to it! I'd recommend the southwestern. All in all, great spot. I'd come back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

New to town, and heard alot about how great this place is. Opened seasonally only, right on Mills Race Park, sits a well known hotdog and burger joint. Basically you walk up, order and wait for your name to be called. They have tons of tables and chairs available for sitting and some music playing. The menu is quite expansive for a small take out restaurant. I've been here twice, and if I can convince the hubs to come back, I will! My first visit was just for a milkshake which was decent but not as creamy as I'd hoped for. My second visit, I got a coke float -which was delicious and pulled pork poutine. Omg... the poutine was so flipping good! You can either have sweet or spicy sauce, I went with sweet. It was really good considering it wasn't made with cheese curds but rather a texmex kind shredded cheese. That poutine alone will have me coming back for more! This place has been opened 27 years and frankly I'm not surprised! 5/5 P.s you can park in the lot adjacent to Frank's for 1hr mon-sat 9am-6pm, or for as long as you want after 6, and all day Sunday. read more

We do enjoy LA Franks on those hot summer days however they only take cash which is a bummer and unlikely to be inside wallets now a days... Their customer service can differ on the day. It's worth a try... I guess! read more

LA Franks is a tiny little stand along the side of Water St in Old Galt. It is part of the Mill Race park feature along the river. The setting and scenery here is fantastic. It is a perfect place to have the go to Hotdog stop. Let me lay this out for you: The dog: a 1/4 lb hotdog on a fresh steamed roll. If plain isn't your thing they have multiple versions of this dog including the chill & cheese, sauerkraut, big blue (blue cheese!+), smokey dog, reuben dog, southwest dog & salsa dog. The holey burger: A burger with a hole in it! It comes essentially in the same varieties as the hot dogs. They are big meaty and delicious. The fries: Do you want poutine? Wow, they have lots of selections here. Everything from perogy fries, to bbq pulled pork poutine. In addition to the above, they have great ice cream, famous lemonade, malted milkshakes. Remember, this is a hole in the wall in a park. This is not a full service restaurant. It is not licensed so no beer unfortunately. There is a little seating area adjacent to it and the parking is along the road or within a short walk from a neighbouring lot. Worth checking out! read more

Doesn't take credit cards and also not enough food selection. This is personal opinion and I know why it can only be open seasonal. That makes Very hard to eat here due to bugs and sometimes weather and was obviously the food is very good for other people. So disappointed in the chili dog yesterday. Used to be the best I have ever had. Now, the bun is different......firmer and tasteless, the wiener was terribly salty and the chili was bland. My friend had plan hot dog and was disappointed as well. We both decided it will be a very long time before we go back. read more

The ice cream here is amazing and the scenery is beautiful but, the food such as poutines aren't the best. They are bland and have little taste. They are quick to have your food ready which is a plus. But the food here isn't all that great. read more

Sometimes to get to sleep at night, I think of Franks. The food here is quality, they don't skimp on service (or chipotle sauce, ya know what i mean?) and free ice cream for newly weds? Awesome. I have had the sauerkraut dog and the southwest fries, both were great! The fries are loaded with topping and the dog was dressed to the nine. This is a local hot spot so be prepared for people and on the weekend; some weddings as The Cambridge Mill is across the street and the Grande River runs behind...picturesque indeed. read more

You come here for the fries and ice cream. The lemonade and hot dogs are good too. When it's open, it's usually pretty busy. Wait is short though. This is a Cambridge favourite. Just a small stand, walk up and order, make sure you don't cut the line if there is one. Wait for your name to be called and then snag a bench or walk by the water. Great food stand next to the river. I had the strawberry milk shake and pulled pork sammie. Good food. The pulled pork was moist and tangy with just the right amount of heat. The milk shake was a bit smaller than what I expected for the price, but the crispy cookie was a nice touch. It tasted great. read more

Always awesome! Everything we've had off the menu and that's alot has been very good. We have our favorites but try something different now and then. Very nice staff who always appear to be busy cooking or cleaning. If you have room you gotta have your icecream while looking over the river. I recently moved to Cambridge and found LA Frank's on a walk down the riverside. They have excellent and tasty food. For anyone who loves burgers, hot dogs or fries, this is the place to go when in Galt. There are many ways you can have your burger/dog/fries... something for everyone on the menu. The ice cream flavours are a nice variety too. .They even do a different special flavour every so often for something not normally on their selection menu. You can have either cones or shakes with the flavours they serve. If shakes are not your thing, then they have a selection of soft drinks or lemonade for you. The location is easy to get to, with the parking lot next to it, the only long walk you need to take is the scenic one on the Riverside walkway while enjoying your ice cream cone after you've eaten you meal. LA Frank's is a seasonal eatery, so is closed during the Fall/Winter seasons. But they are well worth the wait for Spring opening! I know where I'll be heading for a burger and poutine when the warm weather returns. read more

My boyfriend and I went here 2 weekends ago. I had seen this place on yelp with great reviews so I decided to give it a shot. We decided to get a regular ice cream cone for each of us. He had key lime and I had cookie dough. It was great tasting ice cream but we both thought it was overpriced for the amount of ice cream you get. I hear their poutine is amazing though, maybe next time we'll try that. read more
