I am writing this review in regards to LA fitness by keeping in mind how it compares to other LA fitnesses mostly. This LA fitness had recently been redone a couple months ago. One maing upgrade I've noticed is the new floors they had put in which make the gym feel a lot nicer/newer. Another change they have mafe is upgrading their personal training area. They used to have a small spot dedicated in the front, but have moved it more to the back with more equipment like ropes and kettlebells. It looks much better. In the front and top floors they have a lot of cardio machines (row machines, ellipticals, treadmills, stairmaster and more). Then they have the weight machines in the middle (like most LA fitnesses). Free weights are a decent size in the back. Other amenities include a kids area, basketball court, hot tub, pool, sauna, large locker room, showers, cycling room, and a few racketball courts. Overall, I'm very happy with the new upgrade and amenities offered at this gym compared to the others. I live in Queen Anne and drive all the way to this one because I like it more. Its also less crowded than the signature gym at ballard (I go in evenings and afternoon weekends) and it definitely looks newer/cleaner comparatively to others I've been to around the area. The only con i have about this place is usually the front desk is on their phones, has their backs turned to you, or are MIA while you're checking in. I just scan my phone, so its not a huge deal, but I've seen others waiting there 5 or more minutes waiting to talk to someone. It would also be nice to just get a smile or "hello" once and a while.

The men's sauna has been down for months. They don't seem to care. They have all the parts. Why does it take so long to hire an electrician

I was nervous to try OTF because of my lack of fitness and experience. My trial class was with Coach Anna. The studio called the night before to walk me through what to expect, which I really appreciated. On the day of the first class, the front desk staff and Coach Anna walked me through everything and answered all my questions. Anna continued to check in throughout the workout to make sure I was doing okay. I finished and was shocked that I didn't hate it. I very hesitantly signed up, but I'm happy to report that months later, I'm still loving it and feel better than ever. Things I love about OTF in general: I don't have to make decisions about what exercises to do each day, I can't back out last minute if I'm not in the mood (there's some flexibility for real emergencies if you call them), you set your own pace and intensity, classes fly by and I don't get bored, coaches are always there to answer questions and give feedback/recommendations, the benchmarks and challenges keep me motivated, and maybe most importantly, I've seen huge changes in my overall health and strength. Specific Shoreline studio details: the front desk staff are so friendly. They always greet me by name with a smile. The studio is clean and well cared for. I mostly take classes with Anna and Mitchell, just because that's what works with my schedule. They are both amazing at what they do. They're kind, motivating, personable, and I love that they give me feedback on form when lifting. For me, this is really important so I don't injure myself and so that I'm working the right muscles. One piece of feedback is for ALL of the coaches to give feedback on form on the weight floor. I've taken some classes where the coaches are pretty quiet and don't really interact with the people in the class, and it's not as helpful for me as someone newer to lifting. Overall, I love this OTF studio and look forward to many classes to come (especially with Anna and Mitchell)!

As a physical therapist, strength and conditioning specialist, and lifetime athlete, my standards for exercise programs are very high, and GSF is the only place around that I've found that meets them. In fact, I found them during a period of time when I was sampling various different fitness facilities. They have programs for just about everybody, and can tailor programs to individuals based on sport, injury, age, disability, etc, which by itself is a rarity. What I'm most impressed about is the "programming," which is basically the scientific periodization behind how they continually create and evolve their workouts. I often ask about the intent behind workouts or specific exercises, and I'm always impressed by the depth of thought that goes into the purpose of each and every exercise, and how it changes continually. The staff are great, and unlike gyms or clubs whose primary purpose is to make as much profit as possibly by upselling training packages or other things, GSF is most interested in helping every individual improve themselves and reach their goals. First workout is free, and the for what you get, the prices are great!

According to my friend the membership includes allowance for visitors like me to join him, discounts on the merchandise as well as a starter kit which included shoes and climbing sand for gripping among other things. I think that's a nice offering and they seem to offer several packages from monthly, to annual memberships. The climbing gym itself is large with several paths to choose to climb. These paths are ranked by number ranging from "0" to "10". The higher the number, the more complex and difficult the climb is. Once you sign in/pay for the visit, you get shoes similar to a bowling alley, strap them on and begin climbing. The staff are there to help answer questions, but you're free to climb uninterrupted. On my visit, my friend and I managed to max out at level 3 maybe 4, some of the climbs I personally found tough! It is challenging and fun though, really getting you to use your head to plan your route before and sometimes while climbing. I enjoyed the visit and was complimented by my friend who'd by this point been going for a month whereas I can't remember when I did a climb! If you come, don't forget to stretch before climbing!

At 50, I'm stronger and more consistent with strength training than I've ever been, and that's entirely due to Stew's approach. Every session with Stew feels fresh and designed specifically for how I am feeling that day, what I've been working on recently, and where I want to go long-term. His depth of knowledge shows in the details: smart progressions, careful attention to form, and exercises that actually translate to strength, durability, good posture, and muscle. Stew is also a true professional--always on time, fully present, and completely focused on me for the entire session. Just as important, he brings an infectious positivity--he pushes me to my limits and makes me feel great no matter how far I was able to go. I consistently leave our workouts feeling energized, motivated, and better than when I walked in. If you're looking for a trainer who combines expertise, accountability, and genuine care for your strength, fitness and health, Stew is exceptional.

Too shy to go to a gym/wouldn't even know what to do. Both WFH, I have ADHD. Where: Exercise room (with a few weights/ancient machines) in our condo building When: Twice a week couple training (we do separate, customized exercises) My husband had a bad case of covid in April 2023, and he was bedridden for a few weeks--as a result, he lost much of his muscle mass. I sought out Stew for him but ended up working out together. Previous background: My husband never worked out or played sports until about 10 years ago. He had sedentary work at the computer all his life. He worked with another trainer once a week for several years and eventually was able to do a few pullups etc. His trainer changed jobs, then the pandemic hit, so went back to his old ways. After which he got the covid & felt very weak. I've had multiple health problems since childhood, and while I'm mostly good now, still have fibromyalgia, Addison's disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Hadn't exercised in over 20 years. Together, we felt threatened we might become extinct soon if we didn't do something. So I looked around for a new trainer who could come to our home, at first for my husband only. A lot of them were upstarts (e.g. app-based) and sales-pitchy; they also seemed young, and we weren't sure if a 25-year-old (sorry I don't mean to be agist!) would truly understand how creaky our over-the-hill, underused bodies felt. Then I found Stew. He seemed very professional and experienced; he was older than us and in incredible shape. More than anything, what convinced me was the fact he'd worked with clients with various health and mobility challenges. He was easy to get in touch and communicate with, friendly, and not at all scary. After chatting with him and finding out he could work with both of us in the same hour, I decided to sign up for couple training sessions instead. This doesn't mean we do the same workouts; Stew can customize each person's workouts, and supervise/help us at the same time. This worked well, kind of like a buddy system. We feel more accountable about our sessions and are less likely to miss them. We travel off and on so overall we probably worked out with Stew for 8 months or so. From both being totally wimpy and almost muscle-less, now we can see our muscles and feel much stronger. My favorite part about working with Stew is that our workouts are rarely the same. This really helps with my ADHD brain, which *hates* routines. He brings his magic duffle with different tools, but even with the same pieces of equipment we have in our home gym, he's always coming up with different ways to best help us. He has so many tips and tricks in his workout rolodex, if we feel uncomfortable with something, he can switch it up to what works better in seconds. As another reviewer noted, the service may not be the cheapest, but we can unequivocally say this is the best investment we've made in the past year. (I recommend doing it as a couple! Cheaper than 2 individual sessions!) I used to get tired after walking for 15-30 minutes; now I can hike or play pickleball for multiple hours. My husband can do pushups again, and he's feeling stronger. His shoulders are broader too ;) Perhaps the best testament: We recently bought a new house, and one of my criteria was "in an area where Stew can still come see us." I hope he never retires!!

I was referred to this little gym in the Bitter Lake area by a business client of mine who was a…read moreclient of the gal that runs this place. She explained the science behind the Super Slow exercise protocol. I was a very skeptical that you could build significant muscle in only one 10-min workout per week. I went home and spent an hour or more Googling research about this. I also read the book she recommended "Body By Science." It all seemed to make sense scientifically, but I asked myself, if this actually works, why isn't most everyone I know that works out doing it? Well I found out after my first session. It IS only 10-12 minutes, but in order for it to work right, you have to do the exercises with proper form and push your muscles to failure for several seconds which is VERY uncomfortable to put it mildly. The ironic thing is that this form of working out is actually much safer than many other forms, especially crossfit which seems to currently be all the rage. So I think it's a combination of people not believing you can get significant results in 10 minutes a week (I actually am doing it twice a week - but to build muscle you still can only do it once a week), and, some people are just cutout for the level of "torture" you have to slowly endure toward the end of each exercise. But for someone busy like myself that hates working out, it's a very efficient way to gain muscle. I sometimes try to do the workout by myself when I don't want to drive across the bridge but I never get as sore as I do when I do it with Anne Marie. I'm not sure if it's something about her machines or more likely she makes me push myself harder. After my 10 minute workout all I have to do is make sure I eat enough (I use a food intake journal app) and make sure I get enough sleep. The result has been as good if not better than any other type of workout I've tried. The only downside is this is a by appt only small gym in an odd location and a bit of a trek for me. I wish she had a gym on the Eastside. The equipment looks a bit dated too (but it all works), and there's never more than one other person there training so if you want to gawk at people (or people to gawk at you) in a club-like atmosphere, this place may not be for you. I consider this place and the workout she is using a hidden secret in Seattle. While the 10-12 minutes is pretty intense, I still try to get some additional cardio in twice a week, but I typically get that through sports and recreational activities I enjoy instead going to the gym. When I try to explain this program to my friends and they are skeptical, all I have to do is take my shirt off to convince them. LOL. I also Googled SuperSlow Philip Alexander (the doctor that help pioneer this technique) to read more about it and understand it better. Or SuperSlow Study Switzerland. I am surprised I never heard of SuperSlow before!
