After our late arrival into Bergen we decided to eat some Norwegian fish dishes at Pingvinen…read more We arrived at the right time and got seated at the back table. Service was fairly quick. Menu contained a number of Norwegian dishes of seafood, meat (including reindeer) and vegetarian. We knew ahead of time we wanted to try the plukkfisk and gratinated fish pie. The pie was the best dish for us that night. It had a nice and creamy texture along with a crunch on the crust due to the frying. It was a light dish compared to the plukkfisk. The plukkfisk was quite heavy with this fish/mashed potato mixture and while the fried bacon added some texture it could've used a little more acid for our tastes.

They have free wifi and the password is at the bottom of one of the blackboard behind the bartender. Opted for the reindeer filet and it was excellent. The reindeer was cooked to a perfect medium and seared to perfection on the outside. The flavors were excellent and this was served with a side of fried potatoes, green beans along with a bed of creamy mushroom. The vibes from the Gen Z staff were lit too. Seems like they were complaining about bf issues... Pricing may be elevated as I'm not sure if this was a tourist trap as I didn't see any locals. 495 NOK for lunch.

Italian restaurant offering stone baked pizzas, pastas, and other delectable dishes…read more Although we did not secure reservations ahead of time, we were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. The atmosphere is modern with large glass windows looking out to the walkways of the city. The decor is simple, rustic with dark tones throughout the dining area. The natural light is beautiful while dining at 8 pm! It doesn't get dark at night! Service is somewhat slow here. Our order was taken after other guests were seated after us, and we noticed their orders were taken before us. Maybe our server was distracted? Finally, after waiting for quite some time, our server appeared and took our drink and meal orders. Unfortunately, our dishes came out at all different times. The three course meal was served very late. Maybe due to the seafood? We shared our calamari , salad and pizza together, while waiting for the linguine. Still water and sparkling water are served here upon request. Our order: Appetizer-Calamari fritti (deep fried calamari with aioli and lemon, Insalata piccola (small side salad with cherry tomatoes, pickled red onion and honey and mustard vinaigrette). Main three course menu, Della Casa-Bruschetta ai pomodorina (crispy focaccia with stracciatella, vegan 'nduja, and a mix of semi-dried and marinated tomatoes), Linguine ai frutti di mare ( classic pasta dish with mussels, scampi, heart shells in spicy tomato sauce), and Torte al limone ( tangy lemon crème, crispy short crust, topped with light Italian meringue). Pizza: Parma ai pomodori secchi ( prosciutto di Parma, chèvre cream, honey, semi dried tomatoes, mozzarella fior di latte, rocket -asked not to add this, and pine nuts). The food was amazing here. Just the timing of the service and presentation of dishes were unfortunate. Minus one star for the timing issues.

While there is an extensive pizza menu, I'm more of a seafood fan and ordered the Linguine al Frutti di Mare. The Linguine al Frutti di Mare is a pasta dish that serves mussels in a spicy tomato sauce. The sauce had a satisfying kick that gave the dish that umph I was looking for. However, the bread winner (literally): the focaccia bread-- perfectly seasoned and utterly addictive. The ambiance is warm and inviting, especially for those in the area.

Our local friend had not yet dined here himself and may have considered it more upscale than he was originally planning- but the actual meals were perfectly reasonable for a downtown Bergen restaurant with plenty of room to sit and a nice wine list. From the entrance, the restaurant is much larger than it appears, with a room in the back which could also be used for private parties. The setting is upscale and romantic with candles resting in wine bottles, but casual enough to bring work and school colleagues. The complimentary bread and pesto dip were almost too good, as we ordered three rounds of bread before our meal arrived. We decided to split a bottle of the basic Italian Chianti and it was perfectly acidic but rich to compliment our pasta orders. The pasta was all beautifully cooked to al dente with a textured bite. The ragu was rich but not too fatty. The fruits de mer had a perfectly flavorful seafood sauce that complimented the pasta. The ravioli looked wonderful- but I didn't get to try it. The portions were not too large or too small and left just enough room for tiramisu and tartufo. Great place to take a date or a business meeting with space and ambiance for a private meal and excellent service. I was surprised to be the first to review on Yelp- but it seems Trip Advisor has more reviews for this dining spot.

To say the least, we were all shocked at the incredible rudeness our waitress displayed in that moment, especially after having read such great reviews about this restaurant's service. This all happened after my family had waited 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table to even offer us water. While we hoped this moment would be an anomaly, it sadly was not. After my family ordered wine and appetizers, my father then asked the waitress whether she was ready to take our orders for the main course. He asked this to be polite because our waitress did not have a paper or pen to write down any of our orders. Upon hearing this question, the waitress curtly responded, "Why else would I be standing here?" And then rolled her eyes. My family's dining experience everywhere else in Norway has been great. Prior to this dinner, we all commented on how nice our experiences had been with the locals. We were all shocked to have our worst experience happen at one of the "nicest" restaurants. I strongly urge anyone reading this to think twice before going here. While you may receive great tasting food, the service will undoubtedly leave a bad taste in your mouth. Here are the details regarding the time my family visited and the waitress we had. Date of visit: Monday, June 12th, 2017 Waitress description: The night we dined, our waitress was also the hostess. She has brown wavy hair, green/blue eyes, and was wearing a gray sweater.
