When you walk in you get a list of "Rules" (Be Patient, Good Food Takes Time, Etc) They were right. After 15 min we were able to place our drink order and ordered Chips and Guacamole. Chips were super thin couldn't handle the bland, unseasoned Guacamole. Tacos next. Comical. I had the El Pastor and something else unmemorable. 3" tortillas with about a tablespoon of meat each. Average. Waitress was unpersonal and Slow. If you're part of the Rich Lake People and you want some nice drinks with tiny tacos this is right up your alley. If your some poor Father with a hungry family this is probably not your kind of place. Forgettable.

I like how many drink options they have and I went for the frozen strawberry margarita which was really delicious. I ended up getting 2 of these throughout the course of my meal. My friend also really liked her prickly pear margarita. For my meal I got the enchilada gigante and when the plate came out it looked right but after my first bite I realized it wasn't what I ordered. Inside was the ingredients of the Cubano chimichanga but it was still dressed as the enchilada. I can confidently say that pickles and enchilada sauce are not a good combination lol. I sent my order back which is the first time I've ever had to do that in my life and I was kinda embarrassed about it. The waitress was super apologetic. When I got the right meal back, it had 2 portions of rice and no lettuce and sour cream toppings which was not a big deal but just interesting that it got screwed up twice. The food was average. It was kind of bland. I do think the chips and salsa were tasty though! When the waitress brought our bills, only 1 of my drinks and my meal was on it. I thought she was comping me a drink for messing up the order but after handing over my card to pay she came back and realized she gave my actual bill to a different table. Overall just kind of a mess and unorganized.

I don't think we waited even 5 minutes for our food. We ordered two carne asada taco platters and pork tamale platter. The portions were generous, they did not scale back on the meat! We were very pleased with the amount of filling in both tamales and tacos. Rice and beans were also great. The red & green sauces/salsas were DELICIOUS. Red brought a lot of spice/heat, and the green brought a nice milder/medium heat. Both had excellent flavor. Chips and salsa were also very good. The atmosphere was very relaxed as well which is great for my toddlers. They loved the background music! We didn't get a picture of our food as we were just so stinking hungry, but I snatched a to go menu to share because I noticed yelp didn't have any of that info yet! We were so pleased with the price.

In terms of options in the area, Mimi's is definitely a great choice. First and foremost, the food is prepared for scratch. You can taste the difference in sauces. Our entrees were piping hot (a bit of a wait as we came during a busy time; worth the wait). They were flavorful and well prepared. I am a chili relleno fan and am always reluctant to try them in new spots. This poblano filled with melted cheese was perfect. Just the right amount of gooiness, lightly crisp yet mostly soft pepper and a great sauce. The refried beans are clearly made in-house. Wonderful. My husband's quesadilla was bursting with flavor, yet it was also very greasy and the balance of flavors was not the best for our palette. Chorizo is difficult to work with as it is greasy. The staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive to the cleanliness of the dining room. We were also not big fans of the complimentary salsa and chips. Just Ok. We enjoyed the bright murals and room to spread out. Mini's must be a favorite for locals and a treat for guests. Do stop by.

My kids talked me into here instead of Little Mexico because Mi Mezcal does have an extensive vegetarian menu. I'm sorry I did that. First they are pricier than Little Mexico. By about $3 to $5 per plate. But the really sore spot was the food: it was all one note and that note was SALT! There was VERY little resemblance to south of the border or Tex-Méx dishes. O ordered the combo special: chili rellenos, beef burrito, beef taco corn shell, beef tostada, and beef enchilada plus rice and beans. The batter on the chili rellenos was less eggy and more thin fish batter. The chili itself had no flavor. The red sauce? Taco Bell's red sauce is spicier! The ground beef was heavily salted with no discernible cumin or chili powder. Even the beans and rice were bland! By the time the food got home ALL THE CORN TORTILLA items were VERY soggy and no crisp to them at all! I've ordered from other Mexican restaurants in Mt. Pleasant and Cadillac and never had this issue! I would recommend saving a couple of bucks and heading to Little Mexico's locations for a better and more authentic Mexican experience!
