What a great spot for some delicious food! Service style: You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Very fast service! I don't think we waited even 5 minutes for our food. We ordered two carne asada taco platters and pork tamale platter. The portions were generous, they did not scale back on the meat! We were very pleased with the amount of filling in both tamales and tacos. Rice and beans were also great. The red & green sauces/salsas were DELICIOUS. Red brought a lot of spice/heat, and the green brought a nice milder/medium heat. Both had excellent flavor. Chips and salsa were also very good. The atmosphere was very relaxed as well which is great for my toddlers. They loved the background music! We didn't get a picture of our food as we were just so stinking hungry, but I snatched a to go menu to share because I noticed yelp didn't have any of that info yet! To preface this review, we are from southern CA and know/love our Mexican food. The four-stars is relative to a high bar. In terms of options in the area, Mimi's is definitely a great choice. First and foremost, the food is prepared for scratch. You can taste the difference in sauces. Our entrees were piping hot (a bit of a wait as we came during a busy time; worth the wait). They were flavorful and well prepared. I am a chili relleno fan and am always reluctant to try them in new spots. This poblano filled with melted cheese was perfect. Just the right amount of gooiness, lightly crisp yet mostly soft pepper and a great sauce. The refried beans are clearly made in-house. Wonderful. My husband's quesadilla was bursting with flavor, yet it was also very greasy and the balance of flavors was not the best for our palette. Chorizo is difficult to work with as it is greasy. The staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive to the cleanliness of the dining room. We were also not big fans of the complimentary salsa and chips. Just Ok. We enjoyed the bright murals and room to spread out. Mini's must be a favorite for locals and a treat for guests. Do stop by. read more

What a wonderful surprise. It's been a few years since I came here last, but the food was even better than what I had remembered. I had a combination plate and it was a really great way to sample many of their menu items. Let me start with your chips and salsa. It feels like many Mexican restaurants will serve industrial pre-made chips, but these chips looked and tasted fresh. The salsa was an authentic crushed tomato recipe. I had carnitas for my taco, and it was well seasoned and had that wonderful crispy texture that comes from frying it after it is shredded. It also came with a huge portion of their "super" nachos which had sour cream, beans, lettuce, etc. there was a taquito/chimichanga item that I did not eat because I was too full from the rest of the food! There was also a quesadilla on the plate, which was perfectly toasted and had lots of cheese in it. What a great deal at about $11. In this economy of rising prices, this kind of value is very welcomed. Of course, I ordered a side of tamale which had pork in it. I love it when a tamale is not too fat with masa dough so that you can really taste the filling. It had some cheese sprinkled on top of it and it was really good. Because I couldn't make up my mind about which salsa to have, the host gave me a selection of all the salsas, which included tomatillo, habanero, and a really authentic and smoky chipotle salsa. I live in central California near Salinas, where there are many great taquerias and Mexican restaurants. I felt right at home, and to have this quality of restaurant here in Interlochen, whether it is Mexican or not, is a blessing. I was really surprised that it was not busy on a Saturday afternoon, but if you are in the neighborhood, please stop by not just to have a really great meal, but also to help support this kind of family restaurant thrive in this small rural area. The host was the daughter of the owners, and she was extremely friendly, professional, and intelligent. Mimi's is the closest thing to authentic Mexican you can get in this area. We really enjoyed the food. I got the enchiladas platter anf my husband got the Sampler platter. Tons of food at a very inexpensive price. You order at the cashier and then they bring you the food. I only wish they had table service and a liquor license, but don't let that keep you from coming to this place. read more

On a cold rainy evening we had our first visit to Mimi's and we were so pleased with our food and service. While we were only ordering chips & salsa along with their chicken soup, we saw great possibilities on the menus for another time. The soup was so delicious - homemade, hearty and great use of fresh herbs and peppers. They serve a very generous bowl of hot soup with a side of lime and a bowl of crispy chip bits. We were in Interlochen on vacation. Did a general food search and found Mimi's. We decided to give it a try and were very happy we did. The food was hot and delicious.
