Empanada Pollo & Arroz Con Gandules

I ordered from them on DoorDash and was extremely disappointed. I feel like I wasted my money. I ordered 2 Empanada de pollo/ Chicken empanadas. They were pretty big, but both of them were only half full. The left side of each had no filling at all. The chicken was nasty though. I didn't like those at all. I ordered a medium of the Arroz con Gandules / Rice with Pigeon Peas and it was a pretty big portion, but the rice didn't have much flavor. It was just okay. I did enjoy the Maduro / Sweet Plantains. I ordered a Jugo de Limón / Limonade, but I didn't even receive it so I can't comment on that. I won't be ordering from here again.

Mashed Plantains - Better than I could have imagined. I'm googling recipes now.

Honestly, have you ever came across a hole in the wall where you just walk or drive past it…read moreeveryday and you wonder to yourself: "The hell is this place with the big sign and flourescent lights"? I thought the same thing as I would aimlessly walk and drive by past this Spanish establishment. Low and behold, welcome to Rancho Tipico. This place is pretty much your mom and pop spanish meat shop with all the fixings meat lovers crave for. I'm a common man and usually go for what seems the most appealing to me (which usually means fried and meaty) and the options that they have for appealing looking meats are top notch. I speak very little spanish but my go-to dish is usually the chicharrones y arroz con frijoles. Basically pork rinds and rice with beans. Although the meat is usually dry and pretty salty, the juice that comes from the meat is ever so savoring and the complimentary limet that comes with it is the cherry on top. The yellow rice that I usually get with the meat is also tasty as well. It has a nice light bitter taste with it, which is accompanied by a mix of capers. It literally is a nice touch for the meal. Best part about this place? The portions are godly. Literally just 8 bucks of the aforementioned dish can put your azz in a food coma. The location is a bit strange though, as I said before the decor isnt really the most appealing of all places knowing to the fact that it is in the middle of the projects and the ever growing capitalist buildings of UMass Lowell. Finding parking is almost impossible during lunch hours (or any time for that matter), and someone like I would only go here after class. Its a pretty tough spot to find parking for.

OK so where do i begin ? remember growing up and having all these special treats and places you…read morewent to where you knew they made the best of what they sold , those mom and pop old school , old world skilled craft with culinary ? well this is one of those places you will never forget if you were lucky enough to grow up up in this city and find and experience. Places like these are disappearing and commercialized chains are replacing them and its sad for our youth to be deprived of these great places. i have been coming here well over 10 yrs now for the best fried chicken, Dominican Food specialties such as Yellow rice with beans , braised chicken and beef, empanadas , chicharhones, white rice and betuelas, plantains and any other common cultural foods and i have not been disappointed once at the quality or price of food . this place is a take out only and a convenience store where you can buy all kinds of items and drinks, while there may be a line certain times of the day such as lunch and dinner it is well worth the wait IMO. where can you go and buy a plate of food for $5, $7, $10 and just about feed 3 people ? the husband and wife owners , children and employees who work there are a very nice hard working people and are a huge gift to the community and the people of that Lower Belvidere neighborhood. If you are in the mood or are curious about Dominican Food then this is the place, you will be happy you tried and a lifelong customer like me !

When we got there we were a little confused because it was also a store. towards the back they have a little restaurant and a menu where you can choose how many pieces of chicken you want with fries or plantains. However, while we were waiting in line we talked to someone that frequents the establishment and they said to not order off of that menu and just go further down the line and order off what's on the table. So I took her advice and ordered some Spanish rice with chicken stew and one piece of fried Chicken. The food smelled amazing the entire drive home and when we got home we started to eat. There was a lot of rice which is great but not needed and the chicken was very good. I actually preferred the fried over the stew but that's just me. I'm sure if I had more of the stew sauce on the rice it would have made a bigger difference but I didn't have a lot on my plate. Over all the places good and I would love to go back again and try something new.

I've been to the original location on Ash Street a few times and have had great food there, though that place is takeout only. Cibao Kitchen serves up Latin American/Dominican food at very reasonable prices. The food is hot & ready served from behind the glass display counter. They offer a variety of meat entrees such as stewed beef, chicken, oxtail, ribs, pork served with choice of rice, beans, and small salad for $7 even.  They also sell fried plantains, empanadas, potato balls, and fruit juices.  I've been to the mall location twice and ordered the Fried Pork Dinner ($7) and Stewed Beef with Gravy Dinner ($7) and empanadas (beef & chicken-$1.50 each) and potato balls (filled with meat-$2 each). The portions were good sized, the meats were juicy and very tender. The rice and beans had good flavors and the salad was small and simple with iceberg lettuce, tomato slice, and vinaigrette dressing. The fried empanadas (pastry shells  filled with seasoned ground beef/seasoned shredded chicken) were greasy, but very tasty. The stuffed potato balls (fried crisp outside) with soft mashed potatoes and ground beef in the center were also a nice treat too! Though I am sad that Quasi Pronti (custom pasta dishes) left the mall, I am very happy that Cibao Kitchen opened another location at the mall. The business here has been steady.
