This is clean food at its finest. I had the house salad, followed by salmon with puréed carrots and yams. My body continues to thank me, even as I contemplate ehato have for dessert. I love German food, but am grateful to have found File's, so I can eat healthy and enjoy it too. By the way, odds are high that the owner herself will serve you. This particular Gashof is quite a large site with patio seating, an indoor restaurant, and then a fairly large biergarten with a play area for kids! This was where we did the rehearsal dinner for my little brother's wedding, and it was a great pick. As it was a remarkably warm and sunny day, the inside portion of the restaurant was closed, as was the patio (both which are super attractive to the eye) however, the biergarten was bustling with what felt like a majority of the town! There are a lot of really large trees that canopy the biergarten which keep it shady and cooler. The tables are smaller but can easily be pushed together which we did for our larger party. Chairs are a bit flimsy. The food is typical German cuisine. I found the gravy for my roladen was fairly salty, but the roladen itself was one of the best I ever remember having! (no offense mom!) We received mixed up salad which was fairly decent. There was something in there I wasn't sure what it is, but it wasn't good so I left that for my wife! I don't remember if she even ate that. Service was quick for our meals though there was a lot of confusion as to who ordered what but could be our fault since our large families spread out to different tables which I'm sure made this a bit of a nighmare to also breakout the bill. The staff were very friendly and welcoming but slow to take orders, specially when you are thirsty from a long walk ;-)) I had the Almschnitzel for main which came with fried potatoes. The Schnitzel was filled with cheese, speck and onions. It tasted ok and lacked the flavour I would expect in a schnitzel normally. The fried potatoes were also lacking a bit of flavour. I had the Paulaner Kellerbier a new introduction from this brewery and that was really nice :-) All in all an ok experience. I would prefer to walk to other places if we came into town again. Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat here but it looked good. The view from the top level is wonderful and there is also a level down with a similar view. Having taken the ferry from Tutzing to Starnberg, we were told the Wirtshaus comes highly recommended and I must wholeheartedly agree. We ate on the front porch, given the weather was spectacular. Our server, Renata, was spot on for the recommended dark beer to accompany the duck we both ordered. The duck was the special of the day and it was fantastic. I imagine the chef here picks out a special that is in season or the restaurant was able to score a great deal, because look at the accompanying picture and know that tab per person came to forty three Euros. It was so delicious. The rotkohl was great with the apples the way the Germans prepare them and the Kartoffelkloesse or knoedel were overkill for one person. I imagine one could eat one of the duck quarters and Knoedel there and take the other half home but we were starved and that crisp skin drizzled with the sauce, the tender and juicy duck meat were primed for us to enjoy to the fullest and we were both completely satisfied afterwards. The dark beer had a slightly sweet malty taste that paired expertly with the duck and that sauce. Really, this was excellent. I am confident anything prepared here is excellent and for such a great value in a beautiful setting with great service. 4.3 stars!
