It was definitely not what I expected when I went to visit this place before booking it. I was very skeptical. I had heard bad things about it but let me tell you a moment I walked in. I was sold. It's been remodeled. It looks wonderful. I booked it for my mom's 77th birthday. The stuff was amazing. I had no issues whatsoever. The place was clean. It was open for me to set up with plenty of time the day before and the day of I would definitely book this place again by the way don't forget to go to breakfast. It's very delicious.

SERVICE & TRANSITIONS -- good The public spaces were exceptionally clean-- cleaner than a drill sergeant's bunker -- dazzling, and well-lit. Receptionists were friendly, and the elegant stone decor adds to the overall ambiance. Unfortunately, they refused to honor their Yelp discount offering the usual runaround ("what is that", "I'm not authorized", "idk", etc). ROOM [Luxury King Room] -- great https://youtu.be/GWhN8xCYSU4 Wonderfully fragrant, styled w/ergonomic furniture & unique design patterns. The visuals far exceed the meager online photos. VERY favorable initial impression. Dimensions were generous for the price & sufficiently lit. Functionally & cosmetically it was noteworthy. BED [King] -- bad Sleeping arrangements were a let down & I disliked... everything . Sheet weave Lack of support Ineffective springs Pillow fill, size, & quantity Nothing redeeming about this sleep experience. BATH -- good On the smaller side, especially the combination shower which felt cramped. Overall the space + installations were sufficient & the shower experience wasn't so bad Water pressure was excellent as well as the temperatures-- heated very fast! Papaya toiletries were nice to use but didn't make up for the lack of dedicated bath products. TV/ENT./ACTIVITIES -- good The casino is the obvious attraction but no one needs to read about my losses; moving on... This TV solution was a blast from the past: a Sony SD TV 4:3, maxing out at 20 channels. Effectively just 2: Sports & News. There's not much else to do here otherwise, excluding the claw-game in the lobby(more gambling?). WI-FI & CELL RECEPTION -- good Free & unencrypted with occasionally decent speeds. No issues w/cellular coverage. --Performance-- Video streaming - great Online gaming - great Video chatting - great --Nerd Stats-- 19-35 Mbps download 8-87 Mbps upload 0% packet loss 8 ms latency 3 ms jitter FOOD & DRINK -- good Lots of accommodations including: huge vending machines, breakfast buffet, & a barbecue restaurant. Food is prohibited in rooms which was a huge bummer, considering the location. Naturally microwaves are limited to common spaces only. in-room: microwave (mini) mini-fridge (small) coffee/tea wet-bar mini-bar NOISE -- ok No complaints but walls are thin so YMMV. LOCATION -- good Navigating here was too confusing for my Uber driver... In his defense: the routes are unintuitive & signage is lacking. Aside from that, the area felt safe. There's plenty of on-site parking + outlet malls nearby. RECOMMENDATION & RATING Final Price: $182.45/night Was it worth it? Yes Best part: cleanliness This was a decent stay. Not strong on comfort but functional & as clean as it gets. More than adequate if needing to scratch that gambling itch but It doesn't measure up to the Bicycle Casino. Still, I could see myself giving this one another try. Lukewarm recommendation. 3.5/5 @mrstaycation

I stayed here during my first solo trip and they made it super memorable! Staff was great, they were kind enough to waive the deposit fee for me as an accommodation, the staff member that helped me put me on the 5th floor and said it had the best views (it did not disappoint!), and breakfast was great as well! If i had once complaint if any was that the parking was tricky to find and the gate does close after a specific time. I would 100% stay here again the future!

Great experience. I've book before. Always clean and nice. Curtains might not work but still the room is clean.

Stayed last night, checked out this morning. Beautiful marble floors, comfy king bed, delish buffet. If we had more time I would have liked to check out the restaurant again. Had a drink at the casino, good action. Great local spot, will book my next night here for late night action and comfy room. Thanks. LA Crystal

This hotel stands out and is hard to miss because of its Grand presence. In addition it's quiet and i was able to rest peacefully with NO interruptions. My room was also spacious and came equipped with flat screen TV, comfy bed, leather couch, a coffee maker, mini refrigerator, sliding mirrored closet doors, flat iron, ironing board, hair dryer, a study desk and office chair. Free WiFi is available and the connection speed is decent! In addition the hotel is located next to the Gateway Towne Centre shopping mall which is a one stop shop for all your needs: it has a Best Buy electronics store, lots of restaurants, Target and dollar tree grocery stores, a Home Depot store, ultra beauty store, Marshall's clothing store just to mention a few. There is also a metro transit railway across from the hotel. My only dislikes are the $100 room deposit, no microwave in the room and smelly carpet on the elevator lobby! But all in all it's a decent hotel and I would visit again!

This place is so shady. I was trying to book for my tenant and could not get an answer on their website nor on the phone about price and availability for a suite for a family. I was given a number to text. It was off by one digit and finally that person. Let me know. They were the wrong entity. Physically went into the hotel. Was told again they could not give me pricing nor availability only. Helen Mei could give that information. She was not on site and would not be in for several hours. They gave me her business card which I texted. I was told she would get back to me after checking availability the same afternoon. I had to reach out twice. She never responded. Until I told her I was going with another hotel. Then she said there was no availability for a suite. This is so fishy and so unbelievable. How does the front desk not know if a room is available? How do they not have a published price for a room? It seems to me like very questionable practices. I only did this because my client wanted to stay close due to his wards schooling. I will never ever set foot on that property again.

The beds - not bad!

Since it was my middle sisters birthday I decided to let her pick the hotel and stay as I like to stay in West LA or my ex roommates. Anywho, this hotel is located in Compton, CA. Definitely a very unique hotel as it has a lot of Asian foreigners, the lettering is in Chinese and English. When I checked in on 8/31/18 the staff was very kind and sweet. We had the luxury room. My middle sister did not know that Compton was about 25 to 30 min away from the festives we had planned all weekend. I personally did not have a bad experience...I did not get robbed or jacked as this place is not deep into Compton. Right next to the hotel walking distance is a lovely plaza filled with classy stores and food places along with Menchies. I can't consider this area to be hood as no Menchies is ever placed in the hood. Anywho, great accommodations and I have one minor complaints not with the room. Our room was very clean, smelled clean and lovely. However an incident occurred when one of the staff members came barging into our room unannounced- which was scary as he thought we were checking out on Saturday...which we were checking out the next day, Sunday and he came in around 11:30am and checkout is 12pm. The dude apologized profusely, as there are so many awkward scenarios that could have happened. I was not happy about the incident (minus one star). There was no bar and no casino!!! Which is the only reason why my middle sister selected this place (minus one star). I honestly would not stay here again as I like being near the beach and I felt like everything was far as we had activities in Santa Monica, West LA, Downtown LA, Hollywood and West Hollywood. The drive was not bad but Lyft and Uber fees were about $35 each trip which is cheaper if you stay under 10 miles in the West LA areas. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Helen and the staff of the Crystal Casino Hotel are AMAZING. Very professional, friendly, and good customer service. We held a community event in the beautiful ballroom, stayed in the suites, and dined there as well. The chef is fabulous. We had the seafood broil.

Oh boy where do I start? I rarely write reviews, but this place is definitely worthy of one. - Lack of proper air conditioning in both the lobby and the guest rooms. See the pictures. You know something is wrong when a warm +85 deg F Los Angeles day is cooler than your hotel room. We call the receptionist at 11:00PM to complain about that our room was too warm to sleep in and they told us to make a complaint in the morning..... ok! - Dirty beds and sheets. Do they even change them? If the buttons on the phone in our room we're still intact, I would know where to call (ugh). - Sketchy parking lots that look like they used to host swap meets at. - Complaint boxes seem to be a common sight in this hotel. Not surprised. - Majority, if not all, of the reviews you see are either biased or fake. Look at the countless 1 review accoints. What is this place good for? Nothing. I'd rather sleep in my car next time. I feel bad for the hoards of poor tourists that they keep bringing in here everyday in the bus loads. If only they knew.

Dirty and sticky carpet. Molds on walls

I used to come here for the lunch buffet. Not bad. It's a hotel in Compton. The food is decent and the customer service is adequate.

My wife, my daughter and I have stayed at this hotel over 100 times in the last 30 years. We're loyal to it, because it feels like home, the way we have always been treated. The location is perfect when we are visiting our many relatives in town. My wife actually had a difficult time checking in the last time we were there. Due to my own mistake, I did not put her down as an "additional guest". When she tried to check in after a 9 hour, 400 mile drive at 11 PM at night on her own. A new front desk person, wouldn't let her check in, unless I was present. We have never had that happen before in all the years we've stayed there. Normally when we check in, there's always somebody at the front desk who knows us. But this was a new person, and that's not her fault for being new. I will confess that the discussion became heated between this person, my wife and me. My wife felt intimidated and afraid she would have a place to stay for the night. Ultimately, she was allowed to check in and I got there several hours later. The reason I'm writing the review, however, is because when I called to explain/complain, Christine (Kristine?) and Rachael, we're extremely responsive and polite. They didn't immediately go into: "We believe only a coworker's story and not yours." mode. They didn't take sides. They listened and made this loyal customer feel heard. The de-escalated the situation like professionals. This is rare these days. My wife had felt so intimidated by her interaction with the front desk clerk, we actually ended up canceling our next three stays at the hotel. BUT talking to Christine and later Rachael changed everything. I'm impressed. We will be back.

When a $60 Early Check-In Fee Matters More Than Compassion -- A Disappointing Experience at…read moreDoubleTree by Hilton Carson Today, October 15, 2026, I arrived at DoubleTree by Hilton Carson at approximately 1:00 PM, following a five-hour flight to Los Angeles. I had already booked and paid for a four-night stay. I understood that the hotel's official check-in time was 3:00 PM. I wasn't demanding special treatment. I was simply hoping that, under extraordinary circumstances, someone might exercise a little compassion and discretion. I am a minister who traveled to Los Angeles to officiate a funeral for someone I had known for more than 45 years. This wasn't simply a ministerial assignment. It was deeply personal. I was grieving a loss myself while preparing to stand before a devastated family and congregation to offer comfort, dignity, and spiritual leadership. And I explained all of this to the hotel staff. I explained that the funeral was approximately an hour away, that I had just completed a five-hour flight, and that I desperately needed an opportunity to shower, change into my clergy attire, and arrive at the church on time. Initially, I was told that no rooms were available. The front desk associate asked whether I was a Hilton Honors member, which I am, and offered to consult with management. When she returned, she explained that the hotel had a strict 3:00 PM check-in policy. I understood. But then came the astonishing part. For an additional $60, I could check in early. So apparently, a room could be made available. The difference between being accommodated and being turned away was $60. Ordinarily, I might have paid the fee without a second thought. But after paying for my travel and four nights at the hotel, I was carefully managing my remaining funds. I simply didn't have an additional $60 to spare that day. I graciously thanked the associate and sat in the lobby. I purchased food from the hotel's restaurant and waited from approximately 1:00 PM until after 2:15 PM. As I sat there, I kept thinking: What has happened to hospitality? What is the purpose of having managers if they cannot exercise judgment when an exceptional circumstance arises? What is the value of customer loyalty if there is no consideration for the person behind the reservation? And what has happened to simple human decency? At approximately 2:40 PM, I returned to the front desk and was finally checked in. The associate reminded me that she was still allowing me to check in before the official 3:00 PM time. By then, I was approximately 30 minutes behind schedule, traveling in an Uber toward a church where a grieving family and congregation were waiting. I want to be clear: This was never about entitlement or expecting something for free. I had already paid for four nights at this property. I wasn't asking for an upgrade, a complimentary stay, or special amenities. I was asking for a reasonable exception to a policy because of an extraordinary human circumstance. And perhaps what troubles me most is that I told them why it mattered. I told them about the funeral. I told them about my relationship with the deceased. I explained the urgency and the responsibility I was carrying. I gave them an opportunity to understand. I recognize that hotels have policies. As a retired corporate executive, I also understand that managers are entrusted with the responsibility to exercise sound judgment, protect customer relationships, and recognize when circumstances warrant an exception. A business can be perfectly within its rights to enforce a policy and still make a terribly disappointing customer service decision. Hilton is a globally recognized hospitality brand. Yet today, at DoubleTree Carson, I experienced a level of rigidity that left me questioning what hospitality and Hilton Honors loyalty actually mean. Was $60 really worth sacrificing an opportunity to demonstrate compassion, goodwill, and customer loyalty? I hope the General Manager and Hilton's corporate leadership take a serious look at this experience. Sometimes the most meaningful thing a business can offer a customer costs absolutely nothing. It's called compassion. You may have upheld your policy, but you missed an opportunity to honor the humanity of a guest who was simply trying to honor the life of someone he had loved and known for more than 45 years. And that, to me, is the real failure of hospitality.
