Thank goodness there is one in NY. I hope they open one in Cali. I am absolutely addicted to the gelato there. My favorite flavor is the amarena. It's creamy vanilla with those amazing soft tart cherries and a cherry ribbon throughout the gelato. I introduced my college roommate from 30+ years ago to this amazing gelato haven and she was immediately hooked. I also always top my gelato off with the raspberry gelato macarons which are also to die for. They have gelato ice cream inside them as well. Absolutely fantastico!! Surprisingly all the stores I visited so far gave great service. I haven't been to the Rome airport yet. I shall see. The restaurants are typically small and a few have a place to eat inside or outside. The one in Florence does. They were all clean and the decorations and pictures are very inviting when you enter. The store in Paris you have to enter your order in a kiosk, but the other restaurants have a person to take your order. Definitely make an effort to go there if you are in a city that has one. I had gelato for dinner or lunch many days when I was tired of the food in the cities I visited. I hope I don't see bread, pastries, cheese, fish and chips, or pasta for the next 5 years.

I came here on a morning of an otherwise really great stay in Cannes, looking for somewhere to have breakfast. It took more than 30 mins for them to bring out the menu and I had to walk up the bar to order my food. Was it because they were understaffed and busy? Absolutely not. There was one other table and there were plenty of waiters who just choose to sit around. I tried to wave them down but I got the silent treatment. When I commented on it, they rudely told me that i wasn't patient enough. I thought it would be better once my omelette arrived but alas, it was under-seasoned and bland. Worst of all, it was more expensive than the breakfast I had the next day in a posh cafe (while this is just a simple kiosk). Avoid at all costs I would say.

It was the lunch hour and most of the outside tables were occupied, but there was an open table at the corner of the sidewalk seating. We tried to find a maitre d' but there was nobody around. A couple at the next table suggested we sit down and someone would come to us. We did, and waited. After about five minutes, someone walking down the street jostled the table and a glass ashtray fell, shattering on the pavers. I immediately started to pick up the pieces, cutting my finger in the process, when the proprietor appeared and loudly chastised us for taking a table without being invited to do so. I offered to pay for the ashtray, but she snootily deferred. We left. Her behavior was rude, embarrassing, and wholly inappropriate and unemphatic, and enforced every bad French stereotype. It took my wife more than an hour to shake off the shock of the encounter, and it almost ruined what was up until that point one of the nicest days of our 25th Anniversary vacation.
