First course, a big pile of a pasta called "bigolini" which I've not seen before. It is like thick spaghetti with a rough surface. That is needed because the sauce on it was quite thick and another interesting taste - nettles. Definitely different. Second course, risotto made with a red wine reduction. For our anti pasta course we went with the cured meat trio with polenta. The meats weren't particularly good and combined with the bland polenta it just wasn't a good combo. For our primi pasta course we had the bigoli in a horse (yes horse) bolognese sauce. Of our three dishes this was the best. For our main meat course with did horse cheeks braised in an Amarone wine sauce with polenta. I didn't like the polenta any better on our second dish and the cheek just didn't do it for me. I ended up leaving the bulk of the dish uneaten. All in all-maybe I just ordered poorly but I if I ever make it back to Verona this spot will be a pass for me.

Nevertheless, they offered to serve us. We ate outside on a quiet side street off of the main square. We started with the Mozzarella di bufala in crosta di pane con pomodorini al basilico e peperoni which was excellent. The mozzarella was slightly warm and contrasted nicely with the cool tomatoes. Next was the pasta - Maccheroncini with fiori di zucchine and pancetta crocante. This too was a beautiful blend of smooth, creamy flavors and textures and salty, crunchy ones. We finished with the mixed grilled meats as a secondo. This was a perfect compromise since we could not agree on any one meat dish. I really can't be sure what all the different meats were, but the ones I sampled were all delicious - this is clearly a specialty of theirs. Our final coffees (espresso) arrived with house made cookies on the side. A quick note, the portions were large. In order to sample more items, my husband and I shared one order each of the appetizer, first course and second course. I'm sure I couldn't have eaten ever two courses alone given the generous portion size. The servers were very professional and attentive. They were there when you needed them and did not hover. I will also add that we were traveling with a one year old so meals out can be a challenge. The servers were over-the-top warm and interacted with our son making us feel welcome and at ease.
