Very good authentic Mexican food with homemade tortillas. I got the chicken fajitas and it was delicious!

I came to Sunnyside for a work trip and made it my goal to try as many Mexican restaurants as I could manage in the 15 hours I was here. I went to La Colima, El Fogon and Con Sabor a Mexico and loved all of them, El Fogón being my favorite. At La Colima I had the birria de chivo and a pupusa and they were both very good, the pupusa especially. The broth for the Birria was pretty good and the meat was very tender. I got three big chunks of goat in the Birria and while I wasn't happy with the amount of fat on each of them, that's to be expected with whole chunks of goat meat. The repollo (pickled cabbage) that came with the pupusa was very good. And the house-made tortillas that came with the birria were fantastic. read more

It's rare to find birria in the US. It's even rarer to find it made with goat meat, instead of beef. Granted, this wasn't the best birria that I've had, but it was still good. Good enough to rate this place five stars. I didn't know that they had two sizes of it, and took half of the large size home, to have a second meal. Next time, I would get the small. It's an early summer and the thermometer is heading closer to 90 degrees this early evening. I'm not wanting to go home and cook and I'm not sure what I'm craving but my very good friend an coworker I are hungry right now. There isn't much in this little town, yet still enough places to keep eating interesting. Crazy fact is other than enjoying the many taco trucks here in Sunnyside, WA I haven't had any Mexican sit down restaurant food here before. So, we choose Mexican over Teriyaki tonight. In this case we choose the highest rate Mexican restaurant on Yelp tonight and are wondering if we will regret this? It's only been rated 24 times on Yelp. As we walk in we find a a packed little Mexican diner and it smells Great in here and it's clean. It's a family place and probably fits 35-40 people. 80% of the menu is in Spanish yet the waitresses speak English are willing to explain what you're looking at on the menu. I have to tell you, the smells coming out of this kitchen are Amazing and we are hungry! As we see the food for the other patrons we can help but get excited it's looking good. Portions we're seeing are large and the patrons are smiling because it's coming straight piping hot from the kitchen. I'm having the Camarones a la Diablo which is to me the Mexican shrimp scampi. It's buttery rich with much spicyness as much as you want. I'm getting it medium hot because I want to taste my food. At least that's my thought. Jenna my friend is having the Pollo de Mojo which I tasted and their giving her a large chicken breast smothered in homemade Mojo. I'm going out on a limb and saying this is the best camarones a la Diablo I've had since 2007 at Don Pepe's in Fresno, Ca. Probably the best shrimp I've ever had. Ever. The food is really delicious here. It's clean and well plated food. My only downside was the amount and size of the shrimp served to me. I was expecting whole shrimp head on or without but surely with shell on and a larger portion. If they made it like they put on their menu picture it would come across to the customer they were getting more with shell on. I say use medium to medium large shrimps. That's just my only down side. They can change this and possibly sell more. The beers are cold. The horchata is cold. Great prices. Humble service with a smile. I say better food than those big American Mexican restaurants. I recommend this place for its Great food, family style dining, and fair prices. No margaritas here. I wouldn't expect it. Lots of ice cold beer and horchata! read more

I always come here for the huevos rancheros. The sauce they use is wonderful with lots of fresh peppers and onions It is served with rice and beans..and tortillas This is very authentic Mexican food and I have tried others in the area which are all pretty good but I always end up back at La Colima! read more

Unremarkable from the outside and easy to pass by, but well worth the stop. Homemade salsa and guacamole were delicious. I had the pork huarache and loved it. Kind, quick service. Will definitely come back anytime I'm in town. Highly recommend. read more

I really like their adobada quesadillas just spicy enough to be interesting but not overwhelming.

I try not to give a lot of five star reviews. I save them for the food you want to roll around naked in and moan out loud. This be it. My husband and I are gringos but Mexican food snobs. Cheese sauce and bottled jalapeños don't cut it. This place was the real deal. Absolutely no ambience, maybe a total lack of. A real hole in the wall, but OMG! We had a dozen oysters on the half shell and I had the tripe and my husband had three tacos, tripe, tongue and pork. He saved the tripe for last...crispy and crunchy! We are talking about going back again today. 35 bucks for that and four sodas. Best tripe I ever had...ever. And salsa was excellent. read more

This is a little roadside Mexican restaurant - the decor is very basic, but the service and the food were both good. I had the Camarones a la Diabla, I think the best I have ever had in the USA. Spice and flavor were perfect and they went great with the handmade tortillas. My wife had the mole enchiladas - delicious! What to expect - this is authentic Mexican food. So far, the flavors and salsas have not been Americanized, which for me is a good thing. But if you think your going to get El Gitano or Azteca food here, this isn't it. But if your looking for good, authentic Mexican food I recommend giving this place a try! read more

Fantastic food. Chips came with a great salsa that had a slight sweetness and some zip to it. The chips were also served with beans topped with cheese. We ordered the chilaquiles and a beef enchilada. Both came with a tasty red sauce and were served very quickly. Would definitely eat here again. read more

Some of the best Mexican food I have had in Washington.! Food will take a some time to get (because they are making everything to order) but why would you rush perfection. Tortillas are great and hot when you get them. Food has great flavor and portion sizes are big. The building is a little run down, please don't let that detour you. read more

Very HOT outside today! I was very happy it was cool inside. Positive start. I was reminded of some nice places I've been to in Baja. Great service with a smile! Chips and salsa hit the table and I'm on them. Surprise! A small bowl of bean dip w/ cotija. Nice addition to the salsa, which by the way is very good. The entree was not to great. My basic go to first time in the restaurant meal is beef fajitas. The meat ended up over cooked and quite tough. Spice wasn't there either. Just not that good. Place is alright and maybe does other dishes better. But there are a lot of restaurants out there. read more

I really hate to do this. First time in hundreds of reviews over the years. I'm writing a 1-star review waiting for my food to pass the time. I'm fair. Yes I'm a city gringo passing through wanting to eat with the locals and I'm the only caucasian sitting here at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and we ordered two dishes and its been 40 minutes. I've counted 26 people in what feels like a small diner of a restaurant like you might find in an RV park with a bathroom out back like a gas station which I have no problem with at all. But I counted at least 5 people working in the kitchen. Are you kidding me? Oh... 45 minutes since ordering and here comes the food. And NO they weren't serving the Mexicans first. I watched carefully and they were slow for EVERYONE. Another odd thing was that the staff was wearing Seahawks gear, this was the middle of the game, but there was a TV in the corner not playing the game. Not a big deal to me but odd. The food? Good solid homemade family Mexican food. BUT, the wait was -2 stars, the food was 4, so I'm giving this a 2. We were on a timetable and this totally screwed up the rest of our day. The 5-star reviews HAVE to be for the food only but the rating should consider food, service, atmosphere, and value (price), not just the food. We were travelling through eastern Washington and craving some good Mexican food. We found the real deal here. The caldos were huge with generous portions of veggies, meat and lot of condiments, and my 12 year old daughter thought her bean, cheese, and carne asada burrito was simply the best ever. Nice clean restaurant in town. Authentic atmosphere and great service. Fajitas were decent but not sure what people are thinking when they say positive things about the salsa. Tasted like straight marinara sauce....not ok. Guac has a TON of cilantro so beware if you're like me and like to pick around that. There was also a kid running around screaming that must have been an employee or owners son the entire time which was a little annoying. Oh and no bathrooms inside? What gives?
