La Cascada Coca, or Coca Falls, is nestled in the middle of El Yunque and is on the way if you're driving towards La Mina Falls. Coca Falls is a popular trail and popular waterfall / picture stop for tourists and locals alike. I've been to Puerto Rico twice, and visited the falls. There are warnings of the risk of flash floods, but both times I came here there wasn't an incredible amount of water unlike Mina Falls. Both times were a little bit underwhelming, but I'm sure during other times of the year the falls may release much more water.
Note: Coca Falls are technically fenced off. As human beings are super curious beings, a fence never stopped tourists or locals from crossing over - including me! In order to get close up to the slab of rock (and essentially the waterfall --as this rock is which the water runs off of), you'll need to climb a bunch of large rocks. It's advised that you wear comfortable shoes, so that you don't slip! Both times I went in flip flops, which is definitely doable but a little bit more hazardous.
There is plenty of parking nearby, allowing all visitors to visit the falls - be it a quick photo shoot or a rock "climb" to get up close and personal with the falls. I wouldn't necessarily recommend visiting Coca Falls just by itself. However, if you're in the El Yunque area and are doing other things in the park (e.g. Mina Falls), then I'd recommend Coca Falls as an add-on to your other activities within the park. read more
