Run by McGill university, this hotel from what I've been informed has recently underwent renovation. It's fairly well located, about 20-30mins from the airport. It's about a mile walk to some of the more energetic night life areas from what I can tell. The hotel is a total of 26 floors which is nice, and the style/decor of the rooms are definitely very classy but you can tell the renovations were primarily aesthetic-based.
Negatives: When we first walked into the room it smelled like a after-practice boys gym locker room. God awful. But thanks to some febreeze I carry in my suitcase, we were able to freshen it up. The water pressure is not particularly strong and the hot water seems to vary. We got a room with 2 double beds and one did not have a fitted sheet on it, just a flat sheet and the mattresses are firm but not high quality, one of them also looked a bit dingy (yellowing a bit), only noticed because of the lack of fitted sheet. My biggest concern though is the WiFi access. I'm not quite sure if it's because all my electronics are used to American settings, but when I logged onto the WiFi using my phone and my computer, both alerted me that the access was not safe and a security concern. Although most public networks alert me as to protecting my data, I don't usually receive notifications that the accounts are actually a security concern. It may just be my American networks not adjusting well to international networks though, I'm not sure.
Positives: This hotel does have a decent amount of positives too. The employees have been very helpful and kind during our stay. We arrived around 2:30 and were informed our room wasn't ready yet so they held our luggage and had someone work on our room so it was ready by 3:00pm. There is ample storage in the rooms, a refrigerator, and it is spacious. The decor, as mentioned previously, is well appointed and they do include complementary Keurig's and k-cups in the room. There are also a decent number of outlets, which is also something I look for since I'm also fighting with my travel companion for charging stations haha. The rooms include all the usual amenities including iron/board, nice shower products, decent hair dryer, TV w/ cable, free guest WiFi etc. The pillows are also very comfortable, much appreciated! Prices are easily located on their site, we got a very incremental discount because we booked a blocked room for a wedding. I don't know the usual rates for Montreal but I assume this hotel would be considered a more affordable one in the area and I'd consider the price to be mostly fair.
Overall, for affordability and location I would choose this hotel again. I'm sure the renovations were extensive, just a few more kinks to work out (showers are a big selling point for me haha). But service has been positive and I like the amount of space in the room! read more
