I got the Hüftsteak and it was pretty good, although more rare than medium, and had enough fat/tendons in it that there were pieces I couldn't chew. But I'm not a steak expert, and my husband found it very tender and easy to eat. I forget that steak is not really my thing unless it is a good (read: more expensive) cut. I should really stick to chicken or Schweinefilet unless I want to get the good stuff.
The beilagen we orderedBratkartoffeln, Foliekartoffel, roasted onionwere very good. Plentiful, nicely spiced. The mushroom sauce I ordered was so-lala, not bad, but nothing to rave about. The salad was positively awfuldrenched in a not-nice dressing, the iceberg was limp even as it arrived at the table. But, how much can you complain for the price
We went tonighta Fridayaround 7.30 and the place was not terribly busy, but they had enough to do. The staff were friendly and the food came out very quickly. I ordered a white wine which could have been colder, but who knows how long a white wine stays chilled at this temperature (around 30° I think) anyway. Service was prompt and efficient. At some point I was eating around the rawer bits in my steak and a servernot the one who'd been serving uscame and asked if I'd like it to be put back on the grill, which I declinedI was not hungry enough to finish it anyway. Next time, though, I will probably order the filet and probably medium well instead of medium.
Not only for the price, but in general, a very angenehme experience. We will be back soon to try out different cuts of meat and for sure leave the salad (and possibly sauce) out of the picture. Two people, two 500 gram steaks, five sides and two drinks plus two sauces came out to just over EUR40. You get a better steak at Blockhouse, sure, but San Diego didn't seem to want to kick us out of our seats the second we were finished, unlike some more upscale places. The situation of the restaurant is also very scenic and relaxing. We were greeted as we entered and bid adieu as we left; we felt very welcome and comfortable there. Altogether a very nice experience. Will update here after our next visit.
