Upon my entry to this so called establishment I was totally dissatisfied. For starters, the kid working in the front accused me of entering a room that was locked!! My girlfriend and I looked at each other in disbelief. I had to tell the kid to look at the cameras. I ordered the nachos and they were cold and the carne asada was full of grit and fat it was like biting into rubber. I'm not quite sure if the kid in the front was inebriated or something wasn't quite right. The fish tacho tasted like expired old fish. Lastly the parking lot was full of trash and disgusting. This was a pretty cool hole-in-the-wall spot that a friend of mine recommended. We were in DTLA filming a music video, and decided to go here after filming. The space is very dive bar-esque with loud spanish party music. There's very limited seating indoors, but they have a nice patio out back with large TV screens playing sports games. The vibe is very casual, and it looks like they do karaoke on Friday nights. I got the chips with guac and salsa and it was great! The chips were extra crispy, and I loooooved how spicy the salsa was. It gets really loud in here, so if you're looking to let loose, drink a couple of beat boxes and beat box slushies, I'd definitely recomend coming here. The workers and staff are super sweet too! There's a parking lot that's shared with an apartment complex, but it does fill up pretty quick. read more

Came here to try the micheladas but I would give them a 4 out of 10. The flavor isn't great and the way it's served leaves you drinking diluted mix with your beer for the most part. The place itself is pretty cute with plenty of seating but the service does take kind of a long time. If you're only wanting a michi I would suggest going somewhere else. Didn't try their food but it did look pretty good read more

I came to this place since I've passed by a few times. The parking is limited. Walking in it's confusing as no one explained if we had to sit anywhere or wait to be seated. We sat in the outdoor patio. Music was blasting with every single genre. It was hard to talk to my party. Once we sat we waited for a few minutes waiting for the menu , again confusing. We received the menu & the staff came back in like 3 minutes. We were not ready to order. The staff never came back. We had to get up & find where to order which was inside with another staff. I'm assuming the chef or cook was the one who came out. Once we ordered our food came out. The carne asada fries were okay 8/10. It's the plates we were given. Paper small plates, the ones used for a slice of cake. It got soggy really fast which isn't the best. The drinks were okay , a slight after taste. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and there wasn't much traffic. We decided to sit outside; spacious and a good amount of seating. Inside seating is limited and it's quite dark inside. I will say the music was all over the place, we expected better tunes. They have a "jukebox" that you can pay to play your choice of music. If it's shuffling, it's literally all over the place. For food, we only ordered the guacamole + chips and a michelada. Guacamole was average, nothing special about it. Chips were good, crunchy and served a bit warm so that was nice. Michelada was amazing, good serving, a good amount of beers offered and the shrimp on the rim were OK, wished they were cooked with some seasonings. Either way, a must have! Fast service and they were attentive which was nice. All in all this is a place I would recommend to stop by at if you're in the mood for a quick bite and beer! read more

Best Michelada I've ever had!!! I don't even drink beer but, a friend insisted I try it and I don't regret it. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for some drinks since we were in the area. This is a 'order your drinks at the bar and seat yourself wherever you please' establishment. They offer an assortment of beers on draft, various seltzer options and margaritas! The inside is small but the patio is where most people sat. They're known for their lavish margaritas but we chose to order beers and a simple lime margarita instead. We did ask to add chamoy and tajin around the rim so it was a bit more fun! My friend and I weren't planning to eat, as we had just eaten but after my partner ordered tacos and kept raving about it, we had to get some. My partner went for a second round, too! It was such a lovely surprise that their al pastor tacos were so good! Those tortillas tasted homemade! read more

A cozy spot for a beer and a midday snack. The micheladas are on the pricey side, averaging $16 for a one beer michelada or $18 for a two beer. There's a jukebox that employees and their friends use to play their favorite tunes. When I tried to play a song, I was informed that it costs ME a dollar. I opted for the cucumbers while here. Nothing special, I wished it came with lime instead of lemon. What I like the most is it's set up a lot like a cantina in Mexico City but the service isn't as friendly. Overall, it's a nice place for a quick drink, even if there's no happy hour pricing. read more

The clam chowder has a light yet impactful flavor to the broth. For each of the Sonmari rolls, each one was unique in its own way with my favorite being the bossam. Overall, Sonmari has the elements of an upscale and cozy Japanese eatery, although I must say the portions and items are a bit overpriced.

Servers are friendly as expected with an establishment as this. Ambiance is bright and lively. Plenty of natural light. Since it was still early and a Monday, the restaurant was empty. The first person we encountered was the female hostess Danni. I was happy to try the place out finally but unfortunately she started the experience terribly. Danni stared at my daughter and me when we walked up. No fake smile, nothing. She looked sour and annoyed. Definitely not welcoming or gracious whatsoever. She asked if we had a reservation. Told her no. I ignored her demeanor at that point. Another female employee was standing next to her. Danni turned her back to us to whisper to her. It was odd and awkward. Bad vibes. The other woman walked us to the back of the restaurant and seated us inside, at a table by an open exterior door directly in the sun and close to the sidewalk. I asked if we could be seated elsewhere & the young lady said, "I was told to seat you here." I asked her to ask if we could sit elsewhere since the entire large restaurant and patio were completely open and it was only 5:15 on a Monday. Only after I raised these points did the girl finally say she'd ask Danni. We stood there while she walked back, she and Danni talked, they looked at us for awhile and the girl came back to finally seat us elsewhere. Our waiter was wonderful and the meatballs were deliciously unique so I gave two stars for them. My daughter and I ordered the lemon pasta, two orders of the meatballs, salad and carbonara. The whole experience was ruined by how it started so unpleasantly, making us feel very unwelcome for some inexplicable reason. The entire time we were there, only a couple of parties had come in to dine. The majority of tables were available throughout the entire time. The unpleasant interaction with Danni made me feel really uncomfortable and it was hard to relax and enjoy the dinner. At the end of the dinner, I asked a female employee for the hostess' name and rather than giving me her name, she said she'd go get her. I watched her walk to the hostess, they both talked, looked at us and the hostess stood there staring at me. I approached her and asked her to chat if she had a minute. I did not want to resort to writing a review without giving her a chance first. I told her the way she started our dinner was really distasteful and I wanted her to be aware how her behavior makes customers feel and colors their experience at the restaurant. I tried to discuss it with her but saw that her attitude was not going to change. Super disappointing. I hope others don't experience this and I don't understand why she behaved this way. Complete waste of my time and money. I unfortunately cannot recommend this place based on my experience.

We had a perfect view of the activity below us on Fig, a nice vantage on the scene within the restaurant, and a nice view of the sunset. The space inside Checker Hall is warm and rich in texture. The unique position of the bar adds many points of visual interest. We started off with drinks, all of which were excellent. I had a classic martini and another guest had a really complex cocktail with a big chunk of dried pineapple. They made us a special request iced tea, and the coffee service was great as well. All the food was delicious. We started off with the feta, which was amazing. This dish could use one more piece of the delicious pita. Two of us chose the salmon skewer and another went with the basmati rice. Each of us was very satisfied with the flavors and portions. Throughout the evening we had excellent service from Gage. Thanks for adding to our pleasant experience. We did not check out desserts as we'd already committed to Foster's on the way home. We will try them next time. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. Some drizzles of tahini over each floret and there were 2 small aliquots of sauces on one side of the plate. The green one was herbal and tasty. The other side of the plate had no sauce. The cauliflower was a bit overcooked. Salmon kebob - fish was very overcooked. No seasoning or flavor. We didn't finish it. We also had a beer (they have the Craftsman 1903 which was great) and a gin and tonic which was good. Overall - I was expecting more. Had heard a lot of good things about the place. I did like the space. Would have liked a table closer to the window (there were several open but the hostess sat us far away from there in a corner even though we had a reservation). There is a Jeni's ice cream shop across the street so if none of the desserts are speaking to you, that is another option. Would probably come back to sit at the bar but likely not for dinner.

We've been here a few times now, and the service is always top notch. Huge shoutout to Cinthia, Domingo, Nelson, and Rollin for making every visit enjoyable. Cinthia took great care of us from start to finish, checking in often, bringing drinks, cleaning our table, and even bringing styrofoam plates for our micheladas so they would not spill. We had a small issue with one of our food items, and they fixed it immediately with no hesitation. Domingo was incredibly attentive throughout our visit. He kept checking on us, brought extra salsas, helped us get containers to take some home, and even noticed we were running low on napkins and brought more without us having to ask. Brownie points for that. It really shows how attentive the staff is. Nelson was the cook and was very friendly. He even came out to speak with us and packed our food to go just in case, which we really appreciated. Rollin has always been welcoming on every visit and always has great recommendations. The Chupa Nachos are amazing, but definitely big enough for three or more people. The micheladas are always my go to. I tried the Ballena this time, but honestly I still prefer the regular miche. Both miches comes with shrimp and cucumber on the rim. It is like a little snack with your drink. The atmosphere is always chill and welcoming. We have come to watch World Cup matches and Dodgers games, and they always seem to have the big games on. They also have a foosball table on the back patio and a TouchTunes jukebox, which adds to the vibe. I have also tried their tortas before, and both the asada and chicken were delicious.
