We did not know that walking in. They all looked at us like what are you doing here? My husband even said is this a restaurant? So we asked for a menu - which is a QR code. Yes- they have food. We decided to sit at the bar and at least have a drink. It was early so no a lot of people. Everyone seemed confused as to how things worked. Most employees spoke Spanish and we do not. A bartender did speak English. He asked what we wanted and took our drink order. He was nice. We did end up getting food. Chips and salsa=$10! Other items were priced fairly. We asked for water and he claimed they only had bottles of still water=$4.50. But we saw someone else get a glass with ice/water at another table. Also be warned there is a "service fee" of 15% (for what I have no idea) and if you use a credit card 3% card fee. We searched on line to see what people said about this place and some other reviews on Google said they charge $10 to get in although we were not charged anything to come in. In the end the food was pretty good. Bottom line- this is a nightclub with an identity problem as they are trying to serve food as well and it just does not have a restaurant or bar&grill feel to it. We won't be back as not our scene, but also wish them well with the clients they really are trying to attract.

It was open for business, but there was only one other group of two in there with us-and only one server-who was also the bartender. It was a little odd. I'm sure this place is popping at night. Our server (who was chatty at the end-businesslike before) told us there's karaoke on Friday nights and a DJ on Saturdays. I'll definitely bring the friends back for that. The drink menu is large-it would be a fun night spot. I'm just not sure I'd come back for a weekday lunch. That's not the food's fault, though. I had chicken enchiladas verde (very nice) with some of the best Mexican rice I've ever had. The margarita was also good. You can tell this restaurant has been around awhile-there are echoes of genres past, with different decor still lingering (the lighting, for example). But I love the murals outside, the bar surrounds, the signage by the stage area and the other Mexican touches. I also really like the vintage windows-it's a nice nod to the past. And it's spotless in here-so clean-with lots of tables. I also thought the prices were fair. I hope they thrive!

Which is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to trying the chicken tacos. I feel that's a standard at a taco place. For $3 a taco I kinda expected a little more in each taco but as for taste, it's was alright. Not too bad but nothing to really travel out of my way for. Now mind you that was just two asada tacos. Their green sauce here lacked a lot of flavor. I had to almost douse the tacos to get the flavor out. Not bad but I'd say just needs a few more things to work.

I've been here before with friends a few times, years ago but somehow never wrote a review and hadn't been back. It was time to fix both of those problems. . I stopped in for lunch on a Monday and had my pick of spots in the large, festive- rustic dining room. There are tables and booths aplenty-along with tall stools at the large bar. They bring you a generous basket of chips and salsa right away. The first round is free-they charge after that. The chips are usually fresh and crisp. To me, the salsa needs more heat or spices-but don't go by me-I have tomato issues. My server arrived soon and was so sweet when handling my questions. She helped me make good ordering decisions and also checked on me often, but didn't hover. I went with one of the lunch specials, which was a good deal. I had the Speedy Gonzalez: a beef taco, beef enchilada verde and rice (you could have also chosen beans). It's tasty and filling-and goes down great with those aforementioned skinny margs. I ordered the cheese dip and a side of flour tortillas to dip in it. I just can't resist a bowl of cheese. All this merriment on a Monday afternoon? Si!!! The menu is big-and has echos of the Vallarta's restaurants here in the Bay Area. I'm wondering if it's a sister restaurant. It's in a strip mall, with some parking in front and maybe more in back. There's outdoor seating-and I know they used to have mariachis on certain nights-and people would dance. I should find out if that's still the case. I love mariachis even more than a bowl of cheese. Gran Agave has been here a long time. I think it has a strong local following-and I need to become a regular.

Service was great- she was super nice, but didn't come check to make sure our food was okay. Would I go back? Eh I'd probably go try other Mexican restaurants in the area first.

They're packed with flavor, cooked just right, and somehow hit that perfect balance of fresh and satisfying. Pair that with their rice and refried beans, which are way better than your typical "side dish afterthought" and it turns into one of those meals you think about later in the day. I've also had their birria tacos, and those deserve their own moment. Rich, flavorful, and the kind of messy that's 100% worth it. You know it's good when you stop talking mid-bite just to focus. My wife is just as loyal to her favorites, the sopes and tostadas. She swears by them, and after trying a bite (or a few... for research purposes), I get it. They're loaded, fresh, and clearly made with love. Overall, this is one of those spots where everything just works. First, the good - the woman working on this rainy evening was very sweet. Now the not so good - the birria. My first bite was nice, it had a really good flavor and wasn't too wet, which I like. My second bite was my last because I ended up with a huge mouthful of fat. I'm pretty obsessed with birria and not only will try it anywhere I see it on a menu, but I actively seek it out when visiting other cities. Never, ever have I had even a hint of fat in birria. Ever. For anyone thinking "it was just one bite", or "if you eat it all the time, it was bound to happen", no. The right cut of beef, prepared and cooked the right way, should have zero discernible fat because it should all be rendered out. Sadly, this was one and done for this birria lover.
