I arrived at La Casona with cautious optimism. The promise of a Mexican feast quickly collided with a reality that was... disconcerting. The water, ostensibly a courtesy, tasted like a chlorinated pool, its aroma assaulting the senses before a single bite could distract me. Service attempted a façade of attentiveness but faltered spectacularly. Menus were grabbed and vanished into the void, leaving us stranded. Seating was improvised, two small square tables unceremoniously shoved together as though the arrangement alone could compensate for a lack of hospitality. It took ten minutes simply to place our orders. a time span in which impatience grew thicker than any salsa. And then, an incident worthy of a hazard report: a waitress, after spilling an ice cube, did not retrieve it. She kicked it down the hallway toward the bathroom, as if risk and negligence were part of the décor. The appetizers did little to redeem the situation. Chips arrived, flavorless and limp, even after an earnest attempt at salting, a futile gesture. The queso, a ten dollar enticement, was wisely forgone; its absence, though lamentable to the appetite, spared further disappointment. Finally, the main course arrived. Taco al carbon with beef fajita. The tortillas were sour, tasting like worn dishcloths, and the beef, while faintly palatable, offered only a shadow of flavor. It was an experience that reminded me flavor, like service, is an act of deliberate care or a conspicuous lack thereof. La Casona, in its current state, fails to harmonize even the most basic elements of a meal. Water, service, appetizers, and main course each stumble under the weight of oversight and indifference. From the moment we stepped through the doors, Sergio and Douglas greeted us warmly, making us feel right at home. Their friendliness set the tone for the rest of the evening. The service throughout our meal was outstanding, with special kudos to Samuel, who took care of us during our visit. Samuel was attentive, knowledgeable, and ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. He truly made us feel valued as guests, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. As for the food--delicious doesn't even begin to cover it. My husband enjoyed the enchilada dinner, and I had the Birria Tacos, both of which were cooked to perfection. The flavors were authentic, and the portions were generous. It's clear that the chefs at LACASONA Tex-Mex take pride in their work. We've lost count of how many times we've dined here, and each visit reinforces why this is one of our favorite restaurants. It's probably been five years since I went to the 'old' La Casona in Angleton because I don't live there. However, we decided yesterday to go to the 'new' one. One first notices, thank goodness, that the parking lot actually fits the capacity of the restaurant. Decor is great, very spacious and easy to do social distancing. Wait staff and management were great--fast, solicitous and pleasant. But the food wasn't. I ordered an enchilada dinner and my friend ordered the shredded chicken burrito. I ordered a side of queso dip for $8. It came in a small bowl of possibly 6-8 ounces. I ordered a side of guacamole; there were possibly 2 tablespoons, but strangely, it tasted simply like mashed avocado with no other ingredients! My enchiladas were just tasteless. Now, I don't like very spicy foods, but these made the frozen TV dinners at H-E-B seem gourmet. My friend found her chicken burrito to be huge in size, but as she said, it was like they'd just put canned chicken in a wrap. I started eating at La Casona in Angleton and Lake Jackson when they first opened, and they had good food. They've changed the recipes, and not for the better. I've traveled extensively on business for many years, have eating all sorts of Mexican and Tex-Mex menus, but this is one of the worst. But great employees! read more

Well here we are again at La Casona Mexican Restaurant, and why not they have great food, and it looks like half my church came here for lunch today. I think that says something in itself about how good the food is here. They have such a great menu to choose to from, from nachos to a steak to bacon wrapped shrimp, to great enchiladas and tamales, it is hard to go wrong with anything you order, and I think they have some of the best waiters and waitresses, always ready to please. 11/23/21 While we had the best server (Zachary) the food was subpar at best. Dry, tasteless and the chips were awful. The old establishment had great food and did not expect you to pay extra for onions on your enchiladas for pities sake ... second time this has happened at one of their "new" restaurants. They also upcharge if you chose borracho beans over refried. Nickel and diming guests over such small things is a huge turnoff for me so I'll end it right here. read more

It's not that great, really. Alot of people just go with the herd and if they hear one person say it's great, they'll start saying it and believing it too. The food is average. One time I went and I felt excluded by the waiter because I didn't want any alcohol and decided to order a soda. I'm a recovering alcoholic, thank you very much.
