We spent a really enjoyable evening with family at La Casa Vecchia on Christmas Eve. I grew up in Sandbach and this restaurant has been on the cobbles for as long as I can remember. I went there for the first time when I was just 14 years old and have been several times since for family birthday's and when visiting my Mum and Dad.
I believe it's changed hands a couple of times, but one thing that has remained consistent over the years is the quality of Italian food and service. The Maitre'd (whose name I've stupidly now forgotten - sorry!) is excellent. Her manner, professionalism and attention to customer service is second to none. We were initially seated in the upstairs restaurant, however due to a slight mix-up with bookings for a larger party, we were asked if we would mind moving downstairs with the offer of a drink on the house for our inconvenience. It wasn't a problem for us to move and especially as we were asked so nicely!
The atmosphere and music was in full Christmas swing (apart from Cliff Richard's Mistletoe and Wine which my Uncle seemed to have a particular dislike of - bah humbug Uncle Liam!) which also meant no-one was the least perturbed by the move (however we did ask a very attentive waiter if he could get some crackers for us as the table upstairs had some laid out, but downstairs didn't. He obliged immediately!), but the glasses of Amaretto which were offered "on the house" after our meal were well remembered and ensured we felt cared for and well looked after.
Bruno, our waiter has to get a special mention here too. We were last at La Casa Vecchia for my Dad's 60th birthday last January and he made that occasion as well as this one friendly, fun and relaxed. I think Bruno is the longest serving waiter at the restaurant and is brilliant in his relaxed style whilst ensuring everyone is happy and has everything they need or request. Bruno is an absolute credit to the restaurant and I'm sure the reason many people return time after time.
In summary, let's just say there's no need for Gordon Ramsey and his "Kitchen Nightmares" team to go into this restaurant, they already have the restaurant business sussed. May it long continue and inspire other restaurants in the area to improve on their level of service! read more
