The barman was friendly and brought us over a ramekin of wasabi peas to go with our drinks. As mentioned in my check-in, the jukebox is pretty excellent. A nice mix of old and new, with some eclectic choices and some classics, and £1 for five songs. On a Saturday night there wasn't a wealth of atmosphere and it was pretty quiet. Last orders were called shortly after we started our drinks so we called it a night then. I think I'll return to De Nada at some point for a casual drink with friends and perhaps food, just not for a rip-roaring night out.

The food here is always great and about on par with the prices to be expected in Chorlton, the portions are on the smallish side but are priced within that 'tapas order when you feel like it' range so it's reasonably acceptable, you'd probably need to order a couple of things if you were desiring a full meal. They have a decent range of cask beer and the keg on offer is not your average mainstream beers either which is always a pleasant occurence. Because of it's location, it is never packed solid with people so it is a great option in Chorlton if you are after a beer and a bite without contending with the usual Chorlton crowds especially on a Friday/Saturday evening. De Nada has a lunch time special running pretty much constantly where you can grab an empanada and a beer for £5 which is a bargain. There is good outdoor seating on a front deck for the warmer months. In Winter this is relegated primarily to smokers which can be a slight turn off when you are walking up to the bar, but it's fairly common practice around Manchester.

The quality was solid and the portions pretty impressive for a set menu. Everything I tasted had a good flavour to it, nothing was bland or generic - though I'll agree with my friend who found the arrabbiata far too spicy for a full portion. All things considered the meal was very good value for money, though I can't comment on the a la carte. Bottom line, there is definitely room for Gio's in the Manchester restaurant scene. But it isn't somewhere I'd ignore a cheaper deal at Don Giovanni's or similar places to go to.

It's a nice touch that the menus contain information about where all the ingredients are sourced - despite Piccolino being a chain you get the impression it's food and service first rather than brand (or quality food and service is the brand). The restaurant has more of an Italian feel to it than pseudo-Italian restaurants such as Felicini, and the staff were Italian too, which added to the air of authenticity. Prices are pretty standard - ranging from £6.50 for a margarita (but who orders a margarita?!) to £17.50 for the sea bass. We stuck to pizzas, which were delicious, but for the more wealthy and adventurous there is quite a varied menu including duck marinated in orange liqueur and several variations on the fillet steak. Vegetarian choices are not quite so exciting though there are still a couple of pizzas and pasta dishes to choose from. So, it's an authentic Italian restaurant with good reasonably priced fare. Why only 3 stars? Well, we were sitting not more than 20cm (I kid you not) from another table. I usually quite enjoy a good eavesdrop, but this was too close for comfort. It felt like we should've been sharing food and chatter with the couple next to us. Of course we're British and were too polite to complain as the restaurant was busy at the time, but this little predicament has encouraged me to head over to Don Giovanni's next time I'm on Oxford Street and in the mood for an Italian.
