I'll admit; I'm a longtime fan of La Carreta as a local chain, having frequented my hometown location in Nashua growing up, and then visiting the Manchester and Portsmouth locations in more recent years. Having since moved more north to central NH, my wife and I were quite excited to hear of a new location opening in Rochester. I'm happy to report that after multiple visits, the food and service is everything I'd come to expect after years of visiting the other locations. If you're looking for Americanized-Mexican dishes or more traditional fare, they have just about everything you could ask for and all at high quality. My one complaint is they still don't have Tres Leche! Also, shout out to Roberto! I've had him behind the bar a few times now and not only does he pour a great margarita, he's a wonderful person for a good chat. read more

My lovely wife and I tried their new Rochester location at the Ridge. Positives: We both agreed that portion size of food and drinks was excellent. We both agreed that the prices were not to high but yet not cheap. Food taste was very good and had great depth. The decor was very nice and the seating was spacious and not crowded table to table, seat to seat. Unfortunately the negatives: Our servers first language was not English and several details were missed. While the gentleman was very pleasant, courteous and professional the details that were missed really impacted our experience. My wife has a beef allergy which was communicated but not understood obviously since one of her tacos arrived on a side plate filled with beef. One of my wife's chicken tacos had multiple bones in it. When questioned about the spiciness of the drinks containing jalapeños it was expressed as very mild(was very spicy). While we both realized afterwards we should have asked for no jalapeno in our drinks. Overall we both wanted to give this higher stars but with just too many errors, three is our rating. I am convinced that this place can do better since the food and drinks tasted very good outside of the errors made by the server and communication breakdown. read more

Our first time in, I ordered the steak quesadilla with beans and rice. The quesadilla was really good, it was full of steak and delicious cheese, a little small for the price though. Second time in, I ordered the steak tacos, it comes with 3 tacos. They come with lettuce and cheese, and a side of rice and beans. These were really good, very filling. The drinks are weak and expensive. The waitstaff are not terribly friendly. I want to love it here, but it's not my vibe. read more

Food was eh, service was okay. After everything was said and done I tipped $15. come to find out they turned that $15 tip into a $75 tip. Service wasn't THAT good. Anyways, if you enjoy getting robbed of your hard earned cash I do not recommend. Servers are slimey, make sure you keep an eye on your bank account after the fact to make sure it doesn't happen to you. If it does try to dispute it with your bank. Service was exceptional!! Very attentive, welcoming and kind. We had street tacos and Alambres Kabob. Both these dishes were delicious. The chips and salsa were one of the best of had. I gave up my elite status and stopped reviewing entirely when I moved to NH because there aren't that many places to review and it's small time vibes out here so I didn't want to make people mad that I'd be running into later. But this is egregious. The owner/creator of this restaurant chain is literally playing in everyone's face. There are other equally appalling Mexican restaurants in the area that I will also be reviewing just to make it known. But the food is a joke. The flavors, the offerings, even the type of cheese they use is so maddeningly incorrect that I could not continue eating after a few bites. Yes, I'm from CA and Mexican is part of my ethnicity, so yes I've had authentic Mexican food and you may think I'm not being fair. But all they need to do is prepare the food correctly with the proper spices and ingredients. It's not like Mexico is on another planet so their cuisine can't be replicated out here. I do it all the time in my kitchen. I get the whole, "this is how you pronounce the words" on their menu, which is kind of offensive to its customers and also enforces my belief that they know they're putting out a sub par product. If they don't think you can pronounce the words then they definitely don't think you'll know the food they're serving is a joke. And unfortunately, the fact that they have multiple locations means that their assessment of their customers is correct. I'm upset for everyone who comes here and thinks this is real Mexican food because you honestly don't know what your missing, and it's so bad that it's to the point that you don't even know that you should be demanding better! The beauty of Mexican food is that you can make it taste phenomenal on a pauper's budget. They're not even coming close here, or really putting in a real effort to do so. Let me start by saying that the wait staff was outstanding (particularly our waiter - I believe his name was Salvador, but all the others that we observed as well). But that's it. I agree with Giselle V's assessment about the food. I have been to Mexico, I have eaten in many Mexican restaurants in the San Diego coast area and have had Mexican food in many states and many restaurants, and this is not Mexican food. It looks good, but as I mentioned to my wife as we were leaving: I think the food is pre-made and then microwaved, if not fully microwave cooked. It is bland with some but minimal flavor. Nothing special here. Drinks, Cadillac Margaritas, were too strong tasking like pure alcohol. The bartender added more lime mix and they were perfect. The appetizer combo came out cold although the restaurant was not busy. The salsa was flavorful but basically tomato sauce with extra seasonings. Staff were good, friendly. Nothing here made me say, "Yes, I want to go back."; but nothing will keep me refusing to go back if others want to go. read more

We were in the mood for Mexican food and we're going to go to La Corona but they were closed for maintenance, so we came here. We were very quickly seated and we asked to be seated outside because it was LOUD inside. Not people loud but the music was unbearably loud. The setting of the dining area seemed cafeteria like. We got chips and salsa right away. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce, it literally had zero spice and was runny. We waited a good 20 minutes before someone came to get a drink order. We both got margaritas, which by the way were $16 a piece. They were very weak, you'd think for that price it could have been a little stronger. My husband got fajitas which only came with 3 tiny tortillas and they charge $2 for extra. No rice either. I got a quesadilla which was only half of a tortilla and I think it had either canned queso or American cheese in it. Mystery cheese....NOT good! Also no sour cream or guacamole with mine. I eat like a bird and I ALWAYS have leftovers anywhere we go, but NOT here. Needless to say, our waiter was wonderful but we will not be back. Outstanding food, service and great drinks...Anyone giving bad reviews are full of it

So, I've been to La Corona (ick, won't ever go back), Cinco's and now, La Carreta. Cinco's has better chips, salsa, and refried beans. I like La Carreta's main dishes better than Cinco's. They have more flavor. 1 star deduction because of what happened today at lunch (Saturday, during lunch hours). Ordered Chori Pollo and Chilaquiles Mexicanos. Everything tasted great! Got the bill and noticed we were charged the dinner prices. When I brought it up to the waiter, he said "you got dinner sized portions". We were never asked if we wanted the lunch or dinner size, I just assumed because we were sitting there during lunch hours, looking at the lunch portion of the menu, that we would get charged the lunch prices...silly me, and shame on them for not asking, especially because the price difference is pretty big; $12.99 vs $20.99 and $10.99 vs $14.99. grrrrrrrrrrrr. read more

my brother and I both got burrito grande, chicken, worst I've ever had, the chicken was like boiled tough fajita chunks, inedible. I think the refried beans were actually puréed tree bark and the rice was obviously made days ago. this resteraunt originated in Manchester and used to be great, I'll never go again, too bad. read more

Just had an early dinner at Lacareta in Rochester, it was excellent. Weekdays from 2 to 6 pm $7.00 house Margaritas. Dinner combos around $15.00. Large selection of meals. Excellent service. Sitting outside with our dog enjoying the weather and the margaritas. Doesn't get any better!! read more

The ambiance is lacking. Apart from one very nice painting it was all dime store decor trying to hide a warehouse feel. The service was ok . Waiter did not explain anything or waste time on pleasantries and seemed annoyed by having to answer a question. I had a skinny Margarita. It was terrible and cost $15.00. Between my husband and myself, we only drank half of it. I got the chicken taco salad . It was very small. 90% of it was unseasoned refried beans. The rest was unseasoned chicken, a few anemic pieces of lettuce, 1/2 moon slice of tomato that was a little too soft, sour cream and completely unseasoned puréed avocado that they claimed was guacamole. This is Mexican food allegedly, it had zero flavor. I am used to Mexican food with big bold flavors and excellent seasoning and that is not what I got. I ate maybe a quarter of the salad. The only thing that was good about the experience was the chips that were provided for free with the chips and salsa. If you are looking for excellent Mexican food go across the street to La Corona , where you will have excellent food at reasonable prices in large quantities. read more
