We had a great lunch experience here today. We were seated instantly and had food quickly. The lunch specials are great value with price and large sizes! My $10 was enough leftovers for a second meal. The shrimp Vera Cruz was delicious.

Updating my very old review. This is the location by the Mocksville Walmart. I have grown to like La Carreta. Food is pretty good. Large menu selection to pick from. The drink menu (margaritas and daiquiris) has a lot of variety. Service is decent. Carna Asada entree is pretty good. I have also had good luck with the pollo dishes. Complementary salsa is okay. Same with the queso dip. They have bar area and outdoor seating. Not a lot of shade outside, plus lots of cars driving by. Food - 4 stars Service - 3 stars Margaritas - 3 stars Overall, rounding it up to 4 stars.

Parking: located in a shopping center so plenty of room to park Food: veggie fajitas were tasty and was given a good quantity. Tostada with rice and beans was good too. Service: was sort of rushed didn't really give a lot of time to look at the menu, but food got out pretty quickly Ambiance: a larger Mexican restaurant with plenty of seating

TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! The customer service was a 0! Negative -10 to be exact! The manager was very rude! After coming out to clear up a misunderstanding on his employees part, he was very rude and aggressive. I clearly told the server/bartender my order multiple times and she rang in the wrong thing. I got my bill and kindly expressed my grievance with the total, he became angry and belligerent. I was verbally abused for not wanting to pay for something I didn't order. Rather than trying to correct the issue, he continued to escalate the situation with anger and foul language. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is new to the area or establishment.

Complimentary salsa and chips were good and refilled as needed. Excellent service. It wasn't mobbed but there was a nice buzz inside. I opted for the quesabirria tacos and yes they looked and tastes authentic. Corn tortilla grilled with tender chuck roast and cheese served with onions and cilantro on the side with a small bowl of au jus for dipping. DELICIOUS! Also came with beans and rice. 10/10 Great food and great service in a friendly atmosphere. They have a wonderfully varied menu so check them out if you haven't done so yet. I think you'll like them as much as we do.

I believe they are struggling because they rarely have enough staff to cover the tables, cash register, running the kitchen, and handling to-go orders. Seems like 2-3 people working in the whole place with the manager running around performing all those roles. As a result service has always been slow for us. The bar used to be full every evening with people socializing and ordering food, it seems to be dead every time I'm in there lately. They used to have good prices on really big draft beer glasses which I believe brought in a lot of businees, not any more. What brought in people has deminished and if all you have to offer is so-so mexican food, it won't work out. On the food, its just run of the mill mexican, nothing to write home about. I can't think of anything that wow'ed me and we've tried quite a few different dishes. The one thing they have done is really clean the place up, it looks really good inside and no worries about it being clean. Based on all this, we've diverted our patronage to other places in town that are margionally better. Wish we had some places like in lexington or winston where they have crazy bar menus with speciality drinks and good food to go with it.

I drove the 20 minutes here to try the food after reading a number of glowing reviews - 4.6 Yelp…read morerating over 77 reviews! It is a small place with less than a dozens tables, and a fairly broad menu. It has been operating for about 10 years now. I was particularly interested in the California Burrito with Steak and the tacos with shredded beef, the Birria tacos, the Guadalajara Dog, and the street corn. We tried them all! The California Burrito is an interesting version - filled with pickled jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, onion, avocado, Mexican cheese, sour cream, your choice of protein, and topped with Chili Con Queso once filled. The menu description does not mention FFs which is very much traditional. In fact, the replacement of rice and beans with crispy FFs was what made the California Burrito unique! This is a large burrito, shorter and thicker than the vast majority you'll see. The filling I chose was carne asada and the burrito was topped with what the menu termed "chili con queso". The result was a different looking burrito, but an excellent burrito - and no, I couldn't finish it. The Birria Tacos are only available of Fridays. You get four tacos, sliced radish, Lime wedges, and the house red and green hot sauces. These tacos were well filled with meat and cheese, but there was no consommé, which is very traditional, also no chopped white onion or cilantro - disappointing, would not order again! The street tacos with shredded beef were good, not great - well filled, and well topped with chopped white onion and cilantro. I went all the way which added lettuce, tomato, and Mexican white crumbling cheese, either cotija or queso fresco. Frankly I did not find that the all the way approach worked for me! 3 tacos were $8.99, and all the way added $1.99. These are a bit pricey, most Tex-Mex spots in Winston serve up 4 for just under $13! I wanted to try the Guadalajara Dog more out of curiosity than anything else - I have been in Guadalajara a number of times and experienced some interesting food items, such as Birria (the stew), Pozole, Carne En Su Jugo, BBQ Young Goat, and the Guadalajara Hot Dog ( a wildly popular street food)! The weiner is wrapped in bacon and then deep fried, causing the skin to develop rips. Once in the bun, it is sauced and topped with fresh avocado, chopped onion, ancestry you can add more. This was a good version, but not an item I order often. The street corn consisted of corn kernels, cheese, hot sauce, lime, and a Mayo based sauce. This is a busy item, and I found I prefer the simpler, customary corn on the cob with crumpled cheese. This is an interesting place, one that has a different take on Tax-Mex dishes. Those takes and moves away from tradition are not something for me.

It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. Staff member brought our food to our table and it did not disappoint. Hot dog was wrapped in bacon and adorned with various topping including a chipotle crema. My burrito was ginormous! Covered in cheese sauce and stuffed with shredded chickens, veggies and beans. The food was excellent as always. El Taco Shop is unassuming from the outside but don't let that fool. They offer seriously good eats on the inside.

As soon as we entered the restaurant you felt the good vibes with the Spanish music being played in the background. We were greeted with a smile and taken right to a table. The restaurant had a couple of tables, but it seems like a lot of people do take out as well. As I looked at the menu there were a lot of different options apart from the tacos. There were tortas, chimichangas, etc. When it came time to order the food I decided to go with the tacos. I ordered 1 taco de asada, 1 taco al pastor, and 1 taco de pollo asado. I also got a agua de jamaica (Hibiscus tea) it was also very good and refreshing. While my family and I waited for our food our server brought us chips and salsa which did not disappoint. Once my food came out I was super excited to try it out. The presentation was amazing. The tortillas were homemade, the taco was loaded with onions and cilantro, they give you a good amount of limes, some radishes on the side, and bring out 2 different salsas for you to add to your taco if you would like too. Each taco was delicious and very flavorful. I would say that my favorite one had to be the taco al pastor. The seasoning was just right and it even had pineapple in there. If you are in the area I would definitely give this a try, the food and service are both so amazing. You wont be disappointed!
