Good food - stopped by in Mocksville on our way to Gatlinburg.. It was didn't disappoint. The food is pretty much a regular mexican restaurant - seems like it is a chain in that area. The service was quick and ambiance is an average american mexican restaurant. The price is quite low for the amount of the food they served. We enjoyed our lunch. A walmart store is nearby as well as a couple of gas stations so that makes it a good stop on the way very close the highway. read more

We love a La Carreta! This is an easy spot in the shopping center with plenty of parking. We were immediately seated and they quickly took our orders. I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas and was shocked at the amount of the order-I definitely had leftovers! Traditional fajitas are delish for me. Service was friendly. Leaving four stars due to the smell - they had definitely cleaned recently with some kind of Fabulous o cleaner. Like the kind you smell when your fav dive bar cleans. It was STRONG. Updating my very old review. This is the location by the Mocksville Walmart. I have grown to like La Carreta. Food is pretty good. Large menu selection to pick from. The drink menu (margaritas and daiquiris) has a lot of variety. Service is decent. Carna Asada entree is pretty good. I have also had good luck with the pollo dishes. Complementary salsa is okay. Same with the queso dip. They have bar area and outdoor seating. Not a lot of shade outside, plus lots of cars driving by. Food - 4 stars Service - 3 stars Margaritas - 3 stars Overall, rounding it up to 4 stars. read more

Delicious! This has become my go to Mexican spot right by my job that I've been going to about once a week now. The lunch specials are priced so well and are affordable for all. The food is always fresh. I love that they provide the on demand salsa and chips before you choose what to order, which is always a plus. I love the chicken soup they have there also. Perfectly soothing for your tummy, I know it's helped me on days I've needed it! The portions are also sized well and are a bang for their buck. I typically get the flautas and my husband varies in his choice. Service is always fast. I don't love the salsa, but the cheese dip is good! I also haven't had a margarita that I've liked here which is a bummer, but not the end of the world. I ate there for the first and last time with my parents this afternoon. Service was great but the food wasn't. We had chicken enchiladas, tacos and a tamale. There was a weird taste to the enchiladas and the tamale was like one from a can with some kind of mix poured over top. Food did not sit well with any of us unfortunately. TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! The customer service was a 0! Negative -10 to be exact! The manager was very rude! After coming out to clear up a misunderstanding on his employees part, he was very rude and aggressive. I clearly told the server/bartender my order multiple times and she rang in the wrong thing. I got my bill and kindly expressed my grievance with the total, he became angry and belligerent. I was verbally abused for not wanting to pay for something I didn't order. Rather than trying to correct the issue, he continued to escalate the situation with anger and foul language. Ok, my wife and I have visited this place a few times recently, and I have to say, the food has been very good. I'm upgrading from 2 to 4 stars. I have had the Chori pollo and it's great. This place was excellent! So glad I ignored the 3 star yelp rating and went anyway. I got the nachos with beef, chicken and shrimp. They were excellent. I particularly loved the beef and the white caso they but on them! My wife got the beef chimichanga, yummy!! It was so good. And the icing on the cake, it all came with free chips and salsa! One 5 star reviewer said the food was more like Tex/mex. Having lived in San Antonio, I would agree. I loved this little family run restaurant. The prices were very affordable. Food is ok! Please be AWARE of 3.95% fee for all card transactions whether it is debit or credit. You don't get an receipt of the break down the meal like you do at fast food and majority of other restaurants. My family decided to visit this location on a Friday evening. And while I understand that it is always busy on Friday night, it is also ridiculous to have to wait 20 minutes just to get some drinks. When the man came to our table, he was courteous and very efficient. But that, I am afraid, was it. The portion sizes have been drastically downsized. Three stars, mostly based on good service and a great sanitation score. The food is like every other traditional Mexican fare. It's tastes great but the same. It did seem a little expensive. When the bill came it was written in spanish and had no prices, so the register guy kept hitting keys. Not saying he did, but it would be easy to keep ringing up items. VERY GOOD old school "tex-mex" style Mexican. I should explain, my family has owned Mexican restuarants for the last 30 years. Used to be if you went to a Mexican place everything was the same and pretty good (beef burritos covered with cheese, quesadillas, cheese dip, guac, the classics) Since then many what I call "fancy" Mexican places have popped up all trying to make more sophisticated versions of those classics. They can be good but to me it's a difference genre. Give me my classic american style (because none of this stuff from any Mexican restaurant exists in mexico anyway, just like you wont find our version of Chinese food in china but man its good right?) Mexican food! My wife travels across the state for work and we live in Raleigh, whenever she is in this part of the state I always have her take home some chili rellenos, they are not the "traditional" style, they are an old school style that only exists in a few restaurants across the country where rather than taking a whole pepper and stuffing it they basically take a beef and cheesy ball with a pepper inside....I can't get enough! Great prices, great food. I'm from San Diego where Mexican food is everywhere. Was afraid I wouldn't find one near Mocksville that would suffice. For a cozy sit-down restaurant, their food is better IMHO than their closest competitor in town called Domingo's. I love their menu. The LA Favorita is my favorite entre (go figure ). It's a lot of food so I always have a take-away that's just as good reheated for dinner. Their salsa is too mild so I get extra spicy on the side. In 5 months ive had nothing but great service. Generous with the drink refills. Comfortable booths. Good air conditioning, plenty of fans/circulation. Nice Mexican music. Clean women's restrooms with changing table. I'm still not used to having to check out at a register without knowing the charges/total ahead of time. But that seems to be the norm within a 30 mile radius at least. I hardly ever shop at Walmart without treating myself to La Carreta. read more

Good service and decent drink specials. The food is incredibly bland and almost tasteless. The salsa is very runny tomato paste with no substance. Not many choices for Mex in Mocksville, so I end up going for lunch. Mi Pueblo knocks this place in the dirt when it comes to the food. read more

The service has been repeatedly excellent. We've been here several times. The food is just ok. For us it's more of a snack/light lunch place. It is true there is other better local Mexican food but we have been coming here before the others opened. What makes it shine for us is we ask them to make what we want, usually not something on the menu, and they happily oblige. We do like the alacarte order of 3 tacos but we request shredded beef and soft warm tortillas instead of the standard ground beef and crispy fast food like shell. We also like the choripollo and horchata. We appreciate their long standing good customer service and if you need a place to stop in for chips and salsa or choriqueso, it's a nice spot. read more
