The team at La Cantera Dental has been cleaning my teeth for over 4 years and every hygienist throughout this time has been exceptional. The entire staff is incredibly friendly and professional and the front desk makes the billing/insurance process easy with full transparency. I've never had any issue. Joy recently cleaned my teeth and she is the BEST! It is also worth noting the new female dentist at this practice has a great bed-side manner with a calm demeanor, making appointments stress-free and comfortable. (They also play the Kansas City Zoo penguin exhibit on the TVs during appointments. :D) read more

I didn't have a good experience here. It was my first appointment with them and things were going well at first. Dr. Terri Ashby was the person who was assigned to me. I tried to explain that I have some major anxiety around dentists. Dr. Ashby then went on to minimize my anxiety saying it couldn't be that bad. I tried explaining that it was to which she seemed to brush off. Her solution instead of listening and working with me was to push medications at me to see if they worked. I don't recommend this place for those with medical anxieties or any special needs. Dr. Ashby has proven that they won't listen. read more

I had X-rays etc done last year with very little work recommended. I got busy with the holidays and didn't do the recommended work right away. When I returned, all of a sudden, it was multiple cavities and multiple (4??), crowns. Weird but fine. I had the cavities filled (phase one). I had to return for a bite fix the next week because I couldn't close my mouth properly (I still didn't make a good bite but I wasn't going to complain). Then I had severe hot/cold sensitivity. I returned AGAIN after another week of being miserable and the Dr decided to RE-DO the same filling that he did before because apparently he did a crummy job. That worked. Fine. Mistakes happen. I didn't complain. I still went in on Monday to start my crowns. I showed up 5 minutes early like a responsible person. I picked my kids up early from summer camp and brought them with me as we are an active duty military family with no family/ help. They put me in a room within 20 minutes. I waited AN HOUR in the chair. When I finally asked when I was going to start treatment (as I had plans that I couldn't get out of 3 hours after my appointment-I thought that was plenty of time), they told me that he was not done with his other patient and I would probably not have enough time to do my work if I needed to be home at that time. I don't blame the partner. I blame the staff for over- booking. The doctor is a very nice guy from what I can tell from our interactions but the staff is overbooking the office. I'd like to start off by saying that I have been a patient at this practice since 2014. Even after I moved from San Antonio I still commute here because their staff and services are excellent. I have received treatment here before I had braces, during my braces treatment and after. They have always been VERY accommodating with my schedule and that's something that I really appreciate because it's not easy when you work full time and go to school. Never once did I have an issue with them getting me booked in. Today was my 6 month cleaning/checkup and I got to meet Macie the pup. She is absolutely wonderful! Let me say I've never felt comfortable going to the dentist until I found Dr Chu at his practice, well he's no longer here but my hygienist Joy Weatherman stayed and she is great! I didn't know if she was leaving or staying but I'm glad she's still here. Every time I come in for a cleaning she is very thorough and explains what she will be doing in an always up beat way. Joy is a true asset to this practice and I cant say enough about her care for her patients and the quality and knowledge of her care. I wish I could give them 0 stars they told me I had 4 cavities and I came back to my old dentist to get a second opinion and sure enough I had 1 filling that needed to be replace but not 4 cavities . Be very cautious when coming to this place this also happen to a friend they are just after your money!!!! The moment we were introduced to Macie her sweet loving eyes transformed our surrounds to a warm and loving family environment. Mrs. Chu is a graceful and caring friend open to hearing all about our experiences!!We highly recommend the marvelous duo Dr. Parra and Olivia his dental hygienist!!! They both go out of the way to make sure you feel comfortable and most importantly they take the time to listen to all of your concerns. For some reason my last review stopped showing up, so let's try again. The staff is friendly and they always try to make sure I get the treatment plan I need balanced with what I want. Jeannette, the office manager, is like a diligent warrior for her customers staying on the insurance companies to pay their fair share. Oh and Mrs. Chu walks around with the fluffy puppy for anyone who is uncomfortable to hold while they get their dental work done! I love this dentist office. Dr. Chu is the best dentist in San Antonio. His goal is to make sure you have a healthy mouth all around. He isn't all about cosmentics. He wants overall health then he will worry about what they look like. He is honest, affordable and just a good person. His staff is just as awesome. They love working for him too and you can tell. He has people that are there for years. You won't see a new receptionist each time you go. You will see Denise. If you get your teeth cleaned unless one of them has a baby or moves away you will get the same person cleaning your teeth for many years. We are building a home in Boerne and I'd like to establish nearby doctors/dentists. We are in San Marcos in an apartment since moving here from Calif in Sept. I made an appt with Dr Chu in February for today. I was out at the mall near the office when I called and texted trying to get help finding the office. No one would answer. After going in and filling out paper work I was told by an assistant I would see a different dentist. I am used to Scripps Dental in LaJolla, Calif, where I was always treated respectfully and efficiently. None of that was to be found here. Really wanted to like this dental office because the receptionist is super. Unfortunately, their hygienist requires kids with braces to have the bars removed in order to do cleaning. This would be a trip to his orthodontist, a trip to them and a trip back to his orthodontist all in 1 day! This would be an all day event and I work full time and (obviously) my son is still in school. Just too inconvenient for me to accommodate. I have been a patient of Dr. Chu's dental practice for two years. I had jumped around from dentist to dentist for years before coming to Dr. Chu. I reached out to Dr. Chu after I cracked two old fillings. I was in tremendous pain and I was terrified! I am a giant chicken about dentists but the people in his office went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. This group is - hands down - the BEST dental practice in San Antonio. The staff are friendly and professional. The La Cantera location even has a therapy dog! I cannot write enough wonderful things about how kind everyone is. I highly recommend this place for anyone who is afraid of the dentist and, frankly, for anyone who isn't! I have a serious phobia of the dentist after a few bad experiences in my life and had put off getting a cleaning for longer than I should have. La Cantera Dental offers sedative dentistry for scaredy cats like me, and they also cater to special needs patients of all ages. At my first visit the hygienist made me feel relaxed and at ease, as did all the other folks in the office. After my cleaning and x-rays, I was told that I needed to have some work done, so I came back a few weeks later to see Dr. Schroeder for some fillings and to have an old crown replaced. Dr. Schoeder has a superb bedside manner (for lack of a better term) and made me feel comfortable right away. He was so patient with me and made sure that I wasn't feeling any pain at any point during my time in the chair. Not only is he patient, he is an artist and obviously cares about his canvas! He made sure that my crown was fitted to perfection, and after living with a mediocre crown in that spot for 10 years, my new crown feels like a natural tooth. Absolutely loved La Cantera Dental. Waited less than 10 minutes, the entire staff was extremely efficient and friendly. Warned me that my x-rays may not be covered (since I already got them done this year at another practice) before actually doing the x-rays and let me choose if I wanted to proceed with them. La Cantera dental is amazing! I had been going to the same dentist for 15 years + and seen the same dentist and hygienist who were amazing as well. They stopped taking my insurance so I had to switch which is always a bit on the intimidating side. I worked with Dr. Schroeder previously at another dental office so I was comfortable but still skeptical at the same time. It's just always hard switching to new doctors for everyone. I went in with an issue on one certain tooth that my previous dentist I was going to looked at and said there was nothing wrong so I went on my way. I went and saw Dr. Schroeder and he fixed it right away with no problems and the tooth pain is now gone! He's definitely magical and made me feel so much better ! Also Shannon the hygienist I saw at the office is amazing my teeth never felt so clean ! I highly recommend this office! The whole staff is amazing!
