We absolutely enjoyed our time at La Cabaña. It was a slow start, but our waiter eventually came over to give us chips and salsa. He was absolutely pleasant as can be and joked with us a bit, making our experience a great one. It can get kind of loud in both the indoor and patio section of the restaurant, but once larger parties began to clear out, it became calm enough to hear each other. We ordered an appetizer bowl of the chorizo queso, and this queso definitely stands out as the best queso we have ever had. The hillbilly quesadilla, chimichangas, tacos, and burritos are all excellent choices; the portions tend to be a bit larger, so I recommend going when you're really hungry (but the leftovers were just as delightful). All of the proteins were cooked well, and the classic lime margarita was perfect. We would go back to this restaurant if we had the chance. read more

I have found another good Mexican restaurant in Lexington. The location is not fancy and it is at a run down part of the town. But the food is great. Their tacos are really good and they accommodate with the meat of your choice. I could only see Chicken and Shredded beef as options in the menu. But I asked for Chorizo and Asada and they were happy to do it. The cheese dip was great. If there are any downsides, I would say the lack of authentic taco sauce. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and they offer two sauces for your tacos. Here they offered only one, and it could have been better. Other than that, everything else was great! read more

I was looking for an authentic Mexican place for a while and I think I found it. It is nestled in a quite little neighborhood disguised as a regular house that has been renovated. The tortes are to die for. They are so good and flavorful. The wait staff are helpful and friendly. Everything I ate was great. I have went there a few times. I love it here because it is like a diamond in the rough. I don't think tons of people know about this treasure. The bacon wrapped shrimp were so darn good that I almost ordered another batch of them. So far all the food I have had from here is outstanding. Stop in and give them a chance. Honestly there is no place like it in town. You won't regret it. I can't wait until the summer so I can sit on the screened in porch to eat. YUM read more

It's a real gamble whether this place is ever actually open or not, and they don't always answer the phone so you really have to pay a drive by visit just to know. This use to be a hidden gem of a place to eat. But now they it changed owners the food is not very good anymore. And if you do not speak Spanish, it's very very hard to order your food. Our waitress got our orders all mixed up because she couldn't understand English very well. Some of the food was okay but some of it was tasteless. The menu is very hard to interpret because most of its in Spanish. I may come back in a couple years to see if it taste any better, but I would not recommend this place after it changed owners. read more

Paul and I were looking for good Mexican food after a long hike at Red River Gorge, and so we chose La Cabana based on Yelp reviews. I loved the quaint look of the place, and our server was super friendly. Unfortunately, the fajitas were awful. The entire dish was flavorless, the steak was tough, and everything was swimming in vegetable oil. Paul had a bit better luck with his taco, tamale, and burrito combo, but not by much. This place is off of the beaten path but close to New Circle. The menu is quite complicated and mostly written in Spanish. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu so I decided to stay safe and go with what I knew, fajitas. Since this place is trying to go for the seafood feel, with the decor and the name, I decided to go with shrimp fajitas. The lunch portion, wasn't really a lunch portion...for $7.25, it was huge! Been here twice in the last week, gonna have to five star this place right out of the chute. First time was during an anniversary celebration they were having. The menu was limited, the prices a bit high for the portions I thought, but the band was great, and the carnitas were the best I've ever had. Seriously. Delicious. My wife had chicken that was done over a fire, and boy was that good. We went back last night and tried the regular menu, far cheaper and good portions. We got some guacamole for dipping, and that was excellent. The salsa and chips they brought out were freshly made. I ordered from the "Tex Mex" menu (more about that below), the chile verde, and it turned out to be pork ribs, maybe oven-braised, and absolutely delicious. I hate to keep saying delicious, but "delectable" just sounds snooty. The rice and beans were nice, the corn tortillas tasted like they were made in house. My wife ordered the enchiladas potosinas and pronounced them equally, well, delicious. There was a plank of grilled chicken on there as well that wasn't expected but also very good. Somebody on here talked about this place being Tex Mex, and being pretty good but not as good as in Texas. It's not a Tex Mex place, it's a Mex Mex place with a Tex Mex page on the back of the menu. It also doesn't really have the typical street food dishes we mostly expect up here like you'd find at a taco truck. They concentrate on steak, seafood, chicken, and pork meals rather than tacos, sopes, huaraches, gorditas and all that. And they excel at it from what I've experienced so far. So don't order from the Tex Mex page if you're a Texan, order from the Mex Mex pages (I say this having ordered the chile verde from the Tex Mex page, and you all know how that turned out...starts with a D). They also have Mexican sodas to drink, including Coke, always a plus. Better than any Mexican food I've had elsewhere in this town. Highly recommended if you want to try Mexican food that isn't your basic taco truck fare. read more

I'm from Texas. Is this the best Tex-mex or Mexican I've had? No. Would I give this place four stars in Texas? No, but I'm not in Texas, I'm in the middle of Kentucky and Kentucky just doesn't have good Mexican food yet. This is the best Mexican food in Lexington and it's very fair priced. It shows that the owners and staff care that this place does well and that's the kind of place I want to eat. Ask for the queso and a side of pico and mix them together. You'll thank me. read more

My wife and I ate here last Sunday 3.2.14 and really enjoyed the food and friendliness of the workers. We were sketchy of the place at first but it could use some improvements but customer service is everything is a restaurant business and they went above and beyond other places. When we walked in the place is very small and did not offer fountain drinks but they offer a great meal for a great price. I got the chicken fajitas with no oil (because I don't like all of that) but they were amazing and I had plenty of leftovers. If you like homemade hot sauce I would order it but it's not the best in town but definitely good. I thought it was a little creamy which is weird but they said no cream or anything that would make it creamy was added. Highly recommend you check this place out read more

The wife and I ate here for the first time yesterday. The service was excellent, and it was also clean inside. I would eat here again before going to one of the larger Mexican restaurants in the area. I had the chicken chimichanga and a sweet tea which were both excellent. This place is going to ruin my diet. Everything we've had has been delicious and the folks make you feel like a guest in their home. The enchiladas potosinas are delicious and come with a side of baked fish which, by the way, is on the diet but not as much as I ate. I fully recommend this restaurant for everybody children are accommodated well. When we visit Lexington this is going to be our main restaurant. read more

Recently visited here for dinner and I wasn't impressed personally. Granted there are lots of people who seem to enjoy this place, but I didn't. The ambience just wasn't very "restaurantish", and reminded me more of a old country store dining area. The food was fresh and made to order, but nothing I would travel for again. Very good I love their steak meal something Laredo i crave their queso chips lots of food for a small price. I actually enjoyed the decor.
