The best part of La Sovana is the family owns and operates the hotel (Guissepe and his wife, Daniella and Ricardo (son and daughter in law)) and are incredibly warm and hospitable. They made us feel so welcome and even treated our kids like their own. They even arranged a play date with their two daughters for us and let our kids make pizza in the kitchen. The best part is that the Olivi's also own Olivi Winery next door and arrange winery tours, wine tasting, grape harvesting, and they are building a new 8 room spa hotel attached to the winery. We took numerous day trips to the surrounding area and found travel to be easy. I highly recommend La Sovana!

The staff prepares meals without skipping anything, sometimes we ate in the dinning room, sometimes outside we even had a picnic after a short walk up the hillside, where we watched the sun set sipping on wine and eating delicious foods. The pool was relaxing, clean and the perfect temperature. With free wifi we were able to check in with family occasionally. Our last night we danced under disco lights and celebrated with our family the other quests and the staff! We will be back someday! I miss the custom cappuccinos from Mossimo already!

Ironically, that and the side salad were the only good things of the meal. You'll be wasting your money and precious time, if you eat here.

The first mention dates back to 714, to the bitter disputes between the Bishops of Arezzo and Siena, as they fought over a number of parish churches in Tuscany. San Felice in Avana (or Avane) - this was its original name - was among the settlements subject to contention. Today you can call it paradise! As you approach San Felice your eyes will feast on an idyllic Tuscan village, perfectly manicured and quite stunning. Welcomed by a well-trained, top-notch staff, you will feel at home instantly. The rooms are spread out throughout the borgo in modern buildings that look medieval - adorned with beautiful flowers and plants throughout the little village complex. The grounds are magnificently maintained. And the food is fabulous too, particularly the Poggio Rosso. Juan Quintero, originally from Colombia, is the chef at the helm. Despite the chef's origins, the cuisine is fundamentally creative and regionally influenced, with just a few South American touches here and there. It's centrally located within Tuscany and it was fairly easy to get around to all of the hill towns (whereas if you stay in the hill towns, there are parking issues and it can take a while to get in/out of the congestion). The hospitality at Fonte Bertusi can't be beat -- everyone is extremely nice, helpful and prompt in addressing any questions or concerns. The breakfast is great, but would advise that you come on the earlier side, as we were the last ones in a few times and some of the items were gone. Also be sure to try the cappuccino with the egg foam -- my husband is now an addict. The apartments also come with enough kitchen supplies to be able to make light meals. We made pici three out of our four nights at home without a problem of missing any key utensils or dinnerware. The only downside is that it was raining a lot while we were there and it was somewhat chilly (not the fault of the hosts, obviously), so we weren't able to enjoy the outside areas as much as we were hoping to. It would be heavenly to be there during warmer weather and read in the back area and share a bottle of wine during a sunset. And with the rain, there was a bit of a damp smell in the apartment sometimes, but fortunately opening the windows usually aired it out.

They directed me to walking paths, place to park the car, making dinner reservations, arranging taxis to the train station, making me custom cappuccino, recommending places to buy gifts and answered every little question I had. Maria and Anna Claudia always made us feel welcomed and always had a smile on their faces. It was really 5 star treatment and they are the very best. The room Quaint and comfortable. Rooms are of the average size but everything about it made me feel like I was home. The location Conveniently located in the center of Siena, where it was 5 min walking to each main site. Our room is in a 400 year old Italian farmhouse, only two rooms. The restoration has created a relaxing base for exploring central Italy. Mamma's cooking is not to be missed.
