There are only a few hotel rooms in comparison to bigger hotels but it really does change the entire experience. At times it feels like you have the whole hotel to yourself. So peaceful and gorgeous inside. The rooms were quite big and very comfortable. Old feel with some modern touches. The only thing I would suggest to hotel is to ditch the large physical key, it is bulky to carry. It adds to the charm but isn't as practical to carry and we couldn't have a backup key so both of us had access to the room. Overall we loved it though. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Siena. You definitely feel pampered at this hotel and it's a nice serene spot if you need a break. They served us a welcome drink, choice of an aperol or campari Spritz or a glass of prosecco. Also every day after 4pm they serve coffee and tea with cookies. Such a sweet treat. The breakfast was one of the best we've had this trip! There was a selection of yogurts, pastries, and even tremezzinos. Loved our breakfast and gave us a great start to the day. We were a bit disappointed we weren't able to grab breakfast the second day as we had to catch an early am train and breakfast wasn't open yet. From the initial email until even after our stay the team at Terre Di Nano surpassed all of our expectations and dreams. We reserved our stay at Terre Di Nano sight unseen and without having met anyone on the team. This lead to a lot of worry about whether it would be as special as the pictures and reviews online promised....it was far better. As we drove up to the venue the views were breathtaking and the property itself the perfect Tuscan retreat. As beautiful as the venue was it was surpassed by the people who welcomed us into their family and made sure that every wish and hope was realized. We were nervous about the food as we did not have an opportunity to do a tasting before - it was fantastic throughout our stay as was the wine and the tasting we did onsite. Our wedding was a very special and emotional day - this place and these people are so special and helped us accommodate every challenge. We left the next day in happy tears as we said goodbye and look forward to being back soon. Even after we left, one of our guests forgot an item and the team located and worked with us to ship it back. We could not have enjoyed Agriturismo La Terra more. For starters it was not that hard to get to, an hour train ride from Rome to Orvietto and then a scenic 1 hour drive from Orvietto to the Farm/Hotel. It is set on a ridgeline surrounded by vineyards and durum wheat fields. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and a pretty good size for Europe, especially for the price. See the website for their various rooms and prices. The experience began with a warm welcome from Paulo and his wife who gave us a tour of their working farm. They grow a variety of herbs and vegetables that they use to prepare all their meals on the farm. The farm is also scattered with fruit trees including peaches, apples, olives, and our favorite, the apricots. We must have snacked on a dozen of them for free, over the 3 days. All three meals are available prepared fresh from the farms kitchen, by Paulo, his wife and his Grandmother. Breakfast and Lunch both cost 10 euro. Dinners are 25 euro, which includes wine. Our dinners were the highlight of our stay after touring the hill towns of inner Tuscany during the day. If you help them prepare dinner you get 5 euros discounted off your bill. So my wife and I essentially got paid to take a cooking class that turned out to be in her short description "a life's experience". We were taught to make handmade ravioli by an Italian Grandma in an open air kitchen, with the Tuscan sun setting over the hills, along with garlic oil chicken, fresh salad, and chocolate cake. Dinner is shared in farmhouse dinning room with our hosts and the other guests of the agriturismo. Dinner took over 3 hours, but it was wonderful to slowly enjoy each dish while talking in a beautiful setting with people from a variety of Western European countries. It made for wonderful discussion and sharing of stories. Our time at La Terra was special and we will never forget it. They even did our laundry for free. Not bad for 80 euros a night.

They make their own wines and olive oil which are outstanding. They only have a few rooms available so make sure to book ahead. We were greeted by Anna the property manager who was very helpful with getting us settled into our room. The room was very clean and felt like a 5-star hotel with excellent furnishings, a modern bathroom, TV, and free WiFi. Il Castagno has a restaurant on the property which served outstanding dinners with some of the ingredients coming from their farm. They served the best steak I had in all of Italy. I highly recommend visiting Il Castagno for a peaceful and relaxing experience in Tuscany. We'll definitely stay there again.

For context we are a family from San Diego, California that regularly goes to Michelin level restaurants. So, that said a 1/5 stars review is not to say anything was terrible at Il Falconiere but I am holding it to the standard we know for Michelin starred establishments. The service was uneven at best. One guest in our party politely declined the welcome champagne as she does not drink alcohol and the waiter appeared downright offended. The Michelin standard in this situation would be to offer the non-alcoholic sparkling option as a substitute in my opinion which was not done, though she did later discover it on the menu and order a glass for herself. Our waiter also corrected one of the guests that "noodles are Chinese" when she was clarifying an order for one of the children at our table trying to order them pasta with cheese. Perhaps saying noodles is impolite in Tuscany but Michelin level service should not be rudely correcting guests like this. The food was fine but again for a one Michelin star restaurant the attention to detail just was not at that level. All four adults did the tour of Tuscany 6 course tasting menu while the children had pasta and chicken. Temperatures and textures were off and to be honest I can do better job at home with duck breast which was tough and gamey. Credit where it is due the pasta course was incredible and a standout. Lastly in terms of value this just does not stand up to other nearby restaurants in Cortona where we have regularly been impressed by the value and quality of meals. Just last night we had a meal for 9 (6 adults and 3 children) with multiple courses (appetizers, pasta, meat, dessert) and a bottle of wine for 350 euros out the door. Here lunch was 950 euros for 4 tasting menus and 3 children and a half bottle of champagne. Obscene prices for the quality compared to nearby Cortona restaurants. I had another dinner reservation here for later this week which immediately canceled after lunch. I cannot imagine spending more money here.

It's centrally located within Tuscany and it was fairly easy to get around to all of the hill towns (whereas if you stay in the hill towns, there are parking issues and it can take a while to get in/out of the congestion). The hospitality at Fonte Bertusi can't be beat -- everyone is extremely nice, helpful and prompt in addressing any questions or concerns. The breakfast is great, but would advise that you come on the earlier side, as we were the last ones in a few times and some of the items were gone. Also be sure to try the cappuccino with the egg foam -- my husband is now an addict. The apartments also come with enough kitchen supplies to be able to make light meals. We made pici three out of our four nights at home without a problem of missing any key utensils or dinnerware. The only downside is that it was raining a lot while we were there and it was somewhat chilly (not the fault of the hosts, obviously), so we weren't able to enjoy the outside areas as much as we were hoping to. It would be heavenly to be there during warmer weather and read in the back area and share a bottle of wine during a sunset. And with the rain, there was a bit of a damp smell in the apartment sometimes, but fortunately opening the windows usually aired it out.

The room was a little small but the bed was very comfy and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was also rather small but it was fully tiled and had a great shower. Access to the car park was rather complicated and it would have been helpful to have clear instructions before arrival. Overall a very good stay and excellent value.

I was surprised because I requested a specific room (I sent pictures). When I told the front desk, they said they were fully booked and there were no other rooms available. The breakfast is limited and the staff were unsympathletic. I understand that tourists are annoying (I live in a tourist town) but making small service efforts goes a long way Especially, because I cancelled another reservation to stay here and in the end I felt like they didn't appreciate it.
