It has been about 3 years and it seems like never a day goes by that I don't think about this place. I stumbled onto it when searching for a place for me and my now husband to spend on our first vacation abroad together. Wow, did I score big.
Family owned and run, Agriturismo Marciano never gave me a pause when booking their bed and breakfast. Their online email responses were prompt (in English) and very very helpful while caring about our needs and answering numerous questions easily.
Arriving there was no easy task, however. We came straight from Rome off the plane by way of bus, and then hailed a cab to take us to our destination, not knowing what to expect. In the future we will be renting a car. The location was perfect for us (maybe not for some who do not like to walk or ride bikes) it was almost a mile to get to the center of town, but I wouldnt change it for the world. They offer free bike rentals which we used often, and the walks we took back from town in the night under the stars holding hands and stumbling upon hidden grapevines, and paths was something that we will remember forever. I digress...
Arriving at the Agriturismo, it looked even better than the website. Just beautiful, without even trying. Like a picture (which we did indeed frame) The rooms were simple and spacious. No Air conditioning in ours, but we didnt mind with the window and night air. The best part about this place was the common room with all the information and travel books, fireplace, boardgames and what not, that you would need to be relaxed and knowledgeable about the area. I was very very smart to book (I won't say dinner), feast that you can add on for addition charges. The way it works is, you let them know if you would like to eat and if you would like it to include wine. (You do, believe me) They have a huge garden and they get fresh food from the markets the day of the feast. One of the best parts is that you are in the kitchen and they eat with you along with some other guests(which can be good or bad) Our case was fantastic and we met another couple from South Africa that we had a grand time with. They paired each course (7 mind you) with a different bottle of wine, In a new glass for each one. do the math here. It was a ton! I felt like royalty! I didn't know at the time, but they also acted as a winery. Fantastic wines!!! It was so much food( pasta with pesto, carpaccio, fresh mozzerella, fish... I can't even remember what else... just amazing) and we sat there until the wee hours of the night drinking eating and loving life. They even brought out their homemade Lemoncello and some kind of digestif they make for special occaisons. It was hands down the best meal we have ever had in our lives, and we have had alot!
I dream about returning here one day and reconnecting with Siena and its owners. Go here and you will not be disappointed. read more
