This review is for Ming, the facialist only. I was referred to Ming by my sister's friend, who happened to have beautiful skin. I was almost done with my package at Youthderm, and was looking for another place to switch over, Youthderm has really gone down the hill since they moved to the new location. But that's another story... I don't have the best skin, even with laser treatments, I still get the little tiny bumps (oil deposits) under my skin so my skin never really truly feels smooth. The laser treatment only keeps the big acne away but does nothing for the tiny bumps, which I totally hate. I was skeptical when I heard that Ming's the "best facialist ever" coming from my sister's friend. But it is so true. So why do I like Ming so much. She is very good at extractions, quick and precise. She was trained at Bellevoir for many years, and still uses the same methods of extractions, plus she uses the honey acids that quickly seals the skin after extractions minus the hardsell they force on you are Bellevoir. Ming also keeps a clean regimen using on Skinceutical for problem skin. After my first facial, my face smooth down, and my jawline looked less swollen. She had taken the time to clean up all the hormonal bumps under my jaw line and I look like I lost weight. My second time around my face was even smoother than the first time and my face felt light from all the gunk removed. For someone who's been to Youthderm, Bellevoir, Kortry, About Face, Charming, Tinny, etc..she had by far been my favorite facialist hands down. She just a one woman operation, but I felt a share such a great facialist with my fellow acne sufferers since I know how frustrating it can be. Because he won't listen to my request at the beginning, and told me quiet when I'm trying to have a conversation with him. I only get a haircut & colored my hair from Danny .... I followed Danny here when he moved from his old salon... he is the best hairdresser in my opinion & he really knows what looks good on u... LA Beauty was previously known as Visage Salon. i just got a hair cut few days ago and so far i'm pretty happy n satisfied with it. i rarely comment on stuff but for this i specially created a yelp account to recommend people to go to LA Beauty. mannn i think not many people know about this place.. i am new to the area and really needed a haircut. i was recommended by my friend to go here because she has been going here for yearsss.. so do her sisters and friends. i tried to googled about this hair salon but view results were found. but i was like telling myself.. if my friend n most people that she knows go there then it must be great. so i gave it a try. i had a haircut with Jeanna and this time i decided to go for extreme bangs,a style that i usually wont go for, but i really wanted a change from my boring hairstyle. i was afraid it would b a disaster so i consulted with jeanna first n asked her opinions. she then showed me pics from some japanese magazine of the current hair trends thats with bangs. i was like sure lets do it.. and the hair cut turns out to be amazing n my friends said it looks nice on me (someone who is deemed to not have cute hairstyle because of my character lol). so i think Jeanna really knows whwt she was doing to me. great! and another thing i like about her was thst she wasn't so pushy in making me to buy products or other services from LA Beauty like other hair salons. she did make reccomendations for me though (coz my hair was very dry). ohh.. they washed my hair too! and the wash was reallyyy awesome. ahh relaxing. anyway.. at the end of the day: great haircut + great and friendly service + soothing hairwash + blowdry = only $35 (without tips). who wouldnt want to recommend this place?? i will definitely be coming back!! ps: i went there at about 5 or 6 pm, didnt make any appoinment at all and was able to get in right away. how great! read more

Wow, what a find! I was staying at the Hilton across the street and was looking for a nice place, not too expensive just for a shampoo and style. I feel so lucky to have found LA Beauty!. No appt is needed. The staff was very attentive as soon as I walked in the door. Began with a wonderful shampoo that made me feel like a new woman. Then the style! Oh, my! Waves and curls to die for. No curling iron needed here. Blow dry, brushes, and two spritz of Bed Head Headrush. I could not be any more happier. I hope to return. For those of you staying at the San Gabriel Hilton, please do yourself a treat. Go visit LA Beauty for a shampoo and style if not for a cut. I was a regular customer of James Lau's for over 10 years, and called to make an appointment with him. Every time I called over a span of 3 months, LA Beauty repeatedly told me that James was on vacation, which was an OUTRIGHT LIE! LA Beauty kept trying to bait & switch me to one of their other stylists, which I had no intention of doing. LA Beauty is completely unprofessional and cares nothing for their customers. I later discovered that James Lau moved across the street to Pivot Hair Studio upstairs at the Hilton Plaza. Do yourself a favor and call him 626-679-3228. Shame on you LA Beauty! Williams is the best barber ever. I had my hair cut, dyeing color and hair treatment for three times. He is professional and always willing to spent time on it. My hair used to be very dry and damaged due to the fact that i had my hair damaged a year ago. Since then, my hair style becomes my biggest headache. But now, after i had my hair being taken care by him, I can be walk on the street with my hair flaring and being admired by others. He can speak English well and always willing to teach you how to take care of your hair. I learned a lot. I really appreciate that each time, he spent about one and half hour on my hair cut. And the average of a hair treatment is about 2-3 hours. Moreover, the price is very reasonable. A hair cut for girl is about $40, and $35 for male hair cut. He often sent me my hair before and after photograph to me. i like it a lot since i can tell the improvement of my hair condition. However, always make appointment before at least 1 day. I read the reviews on yelp about this "james" person. Problem is...I couldn't get to him! I called the place for better directions, but the person that answered didn't know English and then hung up on me when I told her I needed help. I finally got to the place (after calling a few times and finally getting an English Speaker), but the parking situation was HORRIBLE. I was so upset by the time I got there that I didn't have the patience to fight over a parking spot. I will never even attempt going there again. Found a nice place somewhere else and I'm happy with my haircut. read more

i used to go to Johnny when the salon was on the first floor known as Visage. due to his unavailability, i started going to James based on the other review here. i recommend both stylists highly for hair cuts. for about $35 you will get a great wash/head massage, cut and blowdry. based on my experience, they really know how to deal with the thick asian hair, which is not something all salons are used to. i recently went to James for a color (my first time). after talking to him, he recommended a slightly darker shade for me based on my expectations and his anticipated reaction my hair will have to the color. i'm so glad he suggested and i went with a darker shade because the color came out a little lighter than i expected. he was knowledgeable and i would definitely go back to him again. the color and haircut ran about $110 without the tip. read more

I've been going to James since he was downstairs at Visage. Let me tell you, this man is PURE GENIUS. Whenever I tell him I want a certain cut, he gives me his feedback on how the style would look on me according to my facial features and hair color, and then he would give me the best dang haircut that is perfect for my face. He is very detailed in the manner at which he cuts, strand by strand. Absolutely a keeper! read more

I want to recommend the leading hair dresser/stylist in the Salon. His name is James Lau and he is just such a great find. He and his colleagues were originally at the other salon, Visage. They've moved from the main floor the the 2nd floor in Feb. 2009. As a matter of fact, I just switched to him since the end of 2008. Yet, I feel I'm so lucky to have him to take care of my hair. (If you understand how important the hair style and quality to women.) James is not just a hair dresser. He's someone with artistic concepts, techniques, and insights. Normally these kind of people are with super huge ego, but he's just very nice and gentle. On the top of that, he's extremely professional and perfectionistic. What a pleasant experience to have him to trim and do my hair. He's terrific! Highly recommended! read more

Been coming here for two years. It's been good and they know what you want for ur hair. But it's been so bad for the past month or two. All the guys I know r gone for some reason. This new guy cut my hair twice. He's not bad but doesn't give a fuk about what u want. Twice I specifically told him not to cut my hair on the top cuz I want let it grow and become longer. He just didn't give a single fuk. For two months I've been trying to save up my hair on the top of my head and thx to him, it's even shorter now. Hate to say this but, I will never go to this place again. And I suggest u do the same. read more

This review is for Min, the esthetician. I got referral from my co-worker to go see her. I had a horrible breakout on the right side of my face and had been on an antibiotic (Doxicyclin) for 3 months. The medicine only helped to calm it down, but it always flared up during my PMS. Those big acnes on my face were still there and never go away. My friend told me I need to squeeze it out but let the professional do the job because they know how to extract it without scarring. She highly recommend Min at this Salon because she has been going every 6 weeks to do a deep-cleaning and mask. I was so done with my breakout and taking medicine daily without any improvement so I went to see her. She is Chinese and can communicate in English. She has a nice quiet room to perform her spa service. I was in pain during the extraction because I had a lot of infections. But she got rid of it quickly and did a double check to make sure all little white heads are gone as well. She also plugged my brows and I LOVE IT! I have thick nice brows and I like to keep it think, so she shaped it neatly. She also gave me a neck and shoulder massage. After the painful extraction, she quickly put on cooling mask to sooth the infection, it was very cold on my face but comfortable. Once clean out the mask, my face has some red dots from the extraction, but it wasn't too bad, it will fade away after times. But my face was not swollen, the mask helped a lot. She also offer honey acid mask for an upgrade package, I believe another $30-40 but you can buy a package 5 times for $400 (Deep cleaning, extraction, groom, honey acid mask) which would take 2-2.5 hrs. I plan to do that next time because I really like her. This is my first facial so I do not have a comparison but I really like how my face feels so clean now. No more pimple, those acnes were gone!! I can't wait for my next facial with Min next month. read more

James is awesome! I went to him 8 years ago on friend's recommendation and has been with him ever since. He is very patient and professional, great sense of style.
