We ended up at La Bastide de Pierres entirely by chance last night. We had planned on just heading back to our home base in Aix for dinner after visiting the Sénanque Abbaye, but Gordes was on the way, and it looked so charming, and it was almost dinnertime, so we stopped.
After walking around for a bit, we stumbled on this place, assuming it was French food. Once again we were fortunate to snag one of the last available tables. It's INSANE how busy it is everywhere in Provence! Even in this tiny hilltop village! Anyway, we soon realized that this was an Italian restaurant and at that point couldn't get up and go. Not that there's anything wrong with that! It's just that we had had Italian the night before and didn't really want it again. Ah well. Our meal was great, so no regrets.
We essentially recreated our dinner from the previous night. Two aperol spritzes (cocktail theme of the trip!), that were the second best ones we had. Tuna salad was wonderfully vibrant and our prosciutto/arugula pizza (the 'Parma') had other patrons asking us longingly what it was called. Our daughter was satisfied with her buttered pasta and scoop of stracciatella. Our tiramisu was fabulous.
Quick shoutout to the awesome host and our amazing waitress who was ON IT. This was the best service we received in France and when we left her an 18% tip in gratitude, she was beyond herself with appreciation (guess that doesn't happen too often).
Bottom line: adorable restaurant with live music playing--our toddler enchanted everyone with her "dancing"--good food, and great service. If you don't mind going Italian in France, then you won't regret going here. read more
