I called White Crane Healing Arts one day and scheduled my massage quickly and easily. It was nice…read moreto talk to the owner directly and I immediately felt good about my choice. I booked the Radiance ~ Shiro-Abhyanga which focuses on the head, neck and shoulders. For me it's the most relaxing part of other massages I've had so I was really looking forward to it. When I pulled up I realized it was a house. Deborah works out of her home (which is lovely) and at first I was unsure but when I was greeted by the door and brought to a beautiful massage room I felt at ease. The room and the bathroom next to it are very obviously for business only and were very clean. We talked a lot about any concerns I might have and she asked me about any preferences I had. She was incredibly friendly and thorough in her consultation. And she took the time to describe every step and the differences between this massage and others. I really, really appreciate the thought that went into asking me about my temperature preferences, scent preferences, music preferences, and anything else up front so I could relax in silence during the massage. I hate being talked to during a relaxation massage. The massage started out with a quick full body once-over. I was asked to lay on my back and she put a hot water bottle on my stomach which warmed my whole body. She massaged my face, neck, scalp and chest (not breasts) and it was wonderful! Then she did a skin treatment on my face which was also great. It was rose scented which isn't my thing but I didn't mind since it was all so relaxing. I felt like the session went on a good amount of time and she didn't waste any time talking or messing around with stuff. Everything was prepared and ready for me as far as i could tell. One thing to note is that Indian style massage uses MUCH more warm oil than typical Swedish massages. Plan to wear something you don't mind getting oily afterwards. She did give me a towel but there's only so much you can do. It's also not deep tissue. Or at least mine wasnt. Maybe it was because my preference is light/medium pressure and that was just my experience. When the massage was done I got dressed and she gave me a glass of water and a card with information and tips for getting the oil out of my hair. Since it was a head-focused massage there was quite a bit but I figure it doubles as a conditioning treatment. When I find myself in need of another massage I will absolutely call on White Crane Healing Arts again. I felt so comfortable and like I was with a knowledgable and caring masseuse.
