With only 24 hours in Strasbourg, I was forced to make carefully researched decisions about where…read moreto eat (because I have food priorities when I travel). I am so glad we ended up in this tiny restaurant in Le Petit France for lunch! Since we didn't have breakfast, we opted to go big on lunch and this place fit that bill. The place is quaint and the proprietor was gracious and helpful with us Americans. The portions were generous and decadent. Don't come here looking for health food. Come here looking for hearty, authentic Alsatian dishes. You won't regret it. Onion soup - France meets Germany in this bowl. The onions in the soup was so tender and rather than being topped with a crouton and cheese, it was served on the side and we dipped it in the broth. So good. Foie gras - If you have any qualms about this delicacy, now is the time to get over them because it was the best foie I've ever had. The area is known for it, so there was no way I wasn't going to have some. Just do it. Don't not do it. Ham hock - No knife required. I was given a nice steak knife for it, touched the thing, and it fell apart. I put the knife down and just had at it with my fork. It was so ridiculously tender and rich. Came with potatoes (take some of the skin/fat from that meat and combine it with the potatoes as you dredge up the wine reduction with them) and a side salad (health food!). Order this. Just don't tell your cardiologist. Spaetzle gratin - And finally a dish of fat and carbs to round out or light lunch. It's like if Germany wanted mac n cheese, except way better. Also came with that healthy side salad.

Perfect!!! The experience was spectacular. The food is rustic traditional fare, with a beautiful…read moreelegance. Not stuffy or pretentious like some Michelin * places. The wine list is legendary with pricing dictated from the fact they bought the '85 Bordeaux when it came out in the market! The chef and his staff visited the table regularly chatted asked questions and actually cared about his clientele. The didn't g experience was designed for, and by the old school restaurant goer! Plus the chef grows, makes and produces wine on sight designed around his cuisine. Which enhances the experience even more! 5 star experience from beginning to the end. Merci!!

We didn't have a reservation but they were able to put us in a cozy outdoor area that was fully covered. The Choucrote Garnie (sauerkraut and sausages) was one of their signature dishes and it was amazing. Highly recommend trying that dish if you come here.

This restaurant is now going to be haunting me in my dreams it was that good . First off, the onion tart is crack. The perfect crust with fluffy eggs and onions and bacon. I would say generally I'm not the biggest fan of quiches, but the onion tart is a must. Then we had the white asparagus special with a soft boiled egg and lentils with the most flavorful dressing ever. I was with my two daughters and wife and we split the onion tart and asparagus special as an appetizer, and literally a fight almost broke out among us. Then we split the steak, pork filet and potato pancakes. Just absolutely delicious. My older daughter does not like salad and she actually couldn't believe she liked the side salad that came with her steak. Not the lame iceberg bagged salad mix you get it some restaurants. This was frise, endive and radicchio in a vinaigrette that was spot on. Best french fries ever as a side on the pork fillet. Incredible home fries as the side on the steak. I wish I would've taken photos to post, but the dishes were getting destroyed as soon as they came out. We had the rhubarb pie as a dessert and Panna cotta. We are coming back tomorrow for lunch and getting the asparagus and tart again. It was that good.

So, we asked ourselves: where in Strasbourg do we eat good food from the cuisine alsacienne?…read moreAuthentic food made with love? Not touristy, not white cloths and overcrowded with waiters, not just standard bland chocroute? Well: Chez l'Oncle Freddy. You do not feel very cool going out for dinner with a baby and a stroller, trust me, but at Freddy we were invited in with stroller and baby, we felt extremely welcomed. The staff was friendly, helpful and no nonsens, the food was just great. Alsacienne cuisine with a touch of hipster. Perfect! The restaurant is fresh, clean and nicely decorated. Situated in the touristy streets of Petite France, facing the water front. Authentic and lovely. Is it touristy? No. Just the right amount of kitsch. Is it expensive? No. Really it's not. It's a gem. You're welcome.

The interior was very rustic and not a French country rustic or even a cabin, but more like a workshop. It was comfortably warm and very tight between the tables. We perused the menu which is offered online in English as well as reviews and quickly surmised that we had to order these three dishes: SOUPE A L'OIGNON GRATINEE ....... 10,50 € CUISSE DE CANARD SUR LIT DE CHOUCROUTE ..... 24,90 BOUCHEE A LA REINE .... 22,90 € Onionsoup, not French Onion soup because there can be no other in France! This version was very onion forward but I could taste butter. I was surprised that there wasn't any dark broth...just onions and what tasted like stuck from onions. The croutons were amazing with a baked sharp cheese of some sort. It was good if you like white onions. Sauerkraut with Duck leg & Potatoes -Thus was spectacular as the duck skin was so flavorful and the meat was so rich, the sauerkraut really helps break up the rich flavors. The potatoes were good but a bit under-seasoned Vol-au-vent Veal, chicken, mushrooms Creamsauce & Spaetzel was pretty good but a little one note. The mushrooms were cooked in a white wine that gave them an amazing flavor. The rest of the dish was mild in flavor. A very kid friendly dish. Cute place with a view of the river if you're lucky enough to get those tables. Decent food and very friendly service.

We wondered through the Le Petit France, and I was telling my partner about the Le Cord de Lange as a lunch option (the place I discovered when I was in Strasbourg last year), but as we walked closer, I saw the sign I recognized- Michelin star. We saw the menu and decided that that will be the place for us today. After 40 minutes waiting for them to open for lunch, we walked back right at noon, to see few people ahead of us being seated. We were not that hungry, so we agreed to share steak tartare, and each got a main dish, followed by a desert. Steak tartare was the best I ever had in my life! Loved it! My partner had a duck breast, and I had fish. Both were delicate and cooked so well! The fish (cod) with crispy skin, with bok choy and the cream butter sauce, was marvelous. For the dessert, he ordered the strawberry soup with the dragon fruit soufflé and the vanilla ice cream. Amazing! As we left the restaurant, I messaged my friends about Umami and told they have to visit, and learned that apparently, it's not that easy. With only seven tables they get booked fast. So if you are lucky to walk in like us, grab a seat and enjoy your meal
