We ordered the two of the dishes that Brescia is known for: Casoncelli alla Bresciana and Mericonde with Butter and Sage. Casoncelli is like tortellini, but with a thinner, finer pasta, and a deeply flavored filling. Mericonde is like a meatball, but made with spinach, bread, garlic, milk - and no meat. While this may not sound exotic, the flavor extraordinarily delicious. The service was amazing. The maître d' personally helped us with the menu and made sure that everything was perfect.

My sister and I ordered the lasagne because it's a minimum 2 person dish. My hubby ordered the steak because... well... men like red meat? Y'all. I need to wax poetic about this lasagna for a minute. It was super creamy, bubbly and hot. Layers and layers of fresh noodles with a savory meat ragu sauce on top and prosciutto cotto and mushrooms sprinkled throughout. It was sufficiently warm, on the late April evening we dined here, to sit at one of the tables outside, amongst the leafy greenery. My companion had been eating here since he was a child. Unsurprisingly, we were greeted and welcomed warmly. The menu has a good selection of local dishes, meat, pasta, fish and salads. I was persuaded (cajoled) away from my preferred choices by my expert companion who was insistent that I experienced a local dish (other than him, of course). So I was nudged in the direction of Bigoli Bottarga (homemade pasta 'noodles' topped with shavings of dried tuna caviar). It was a pretty potent plate - too powerfully fishy, if I'm honest - but that was the nature of it, rather than the fault of the chef. We enjoyed generous glasses of the full-bodied, locally-produced Franciacorta red wine - delizioso - to accompany our food. Service was friendly, very efficient and always smiling. The atmosphere was authentic and lively but not intrusively loud.
