Entering the store, numerous cross country and alpine skis are displayed along a wall. Same as professional climbing gear, crampons, ice picks, carabiners, and numerous other pieces of equipment. The next section is clothing for every type of outside activity, from skiing to professional climbing. Gloves that would be worn in a Himalayan expedition Besides consignment articles, Gear Again has numerous new sports oriented articles, from socks to gloves to hats. The owners are superb, friendly and helpful and the super friendly lab mix in the premises makes the place even more welcoming.

Upper Valley Outfitters is the only dedicated fly fishing store you're likely to find anywhere in…read morethe Upper Valley, an area where the waters are big and plentiful but the fishing shops seem suspiciously scarce. Apparently most people in the Upper Valley are making their hooks out of old straight pins. Staff at UVO are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and their fly selection is awesome. Hand tied flies here are affordable compared to other fly shops I'm used to, and they conveniently keep a bunch of proven local patterns that are in season right near the register so you can run in, get what you need for that afternoon, and run out. UVO staff will help you find local waters to fish in and help you figure out times of day to fish them. Be careful of the Connecticut and White Rivers rising on hot summer afternoons when they have to generate more hydroelectric power, as the pool you waded into might suddenly become too deep to wade out of! Also, when you get to the area and find out the felt-soled wading boots you brought from home are illegal here, this is where you'll need to go to remedy the situation. There is an excellent supply of fly tying materials available at UVO, and they deal in Hardy, St. Croix, and a number of other top-name rods and reels. If I lived in the Upper Valley, I'd probably hang out in this place once a week or so. The only thing I don't like about UVO is that they don't sell Vermont fishing licenses even though they're so close to the VT border. The way the state makes them available to vendors is apparently more trouble than it's worth, which is why it's so hard to find anywhere to get a license on the Vermont side of the Upper Valley. None of this, of course, is UVO's fault. So, if you're planning a fishing getaway in the Upper Valley, make sure to know where this place is and how to get here beforehand, because this resource is invaluable and necessary. I went in today and had yet another excellent experience with them. But let's start at how I got to really like these guys (and gals). I was in need of new ski boots. After a disgusting customer service experience at a custom made boot maker which conveniently disowned their warranty, I spent a good two months researching and coming up with two finalist models. I may not be the world's expert on ski gear but I've been skiing for forty years, I know the type, brand and style of boots I want, and after all, it's my feet. So I went to my local ski store and I got a dismissive "you take what we have". A friend of mine clued me in to Golf and Ski Warehouse and I went in on the defensive, considering the two previous experiences. Their sales staff is not only knowledgeable but was actually concerned with what I wanted and how it fit and how I skied and what kind of skiing and a myriad of other parameters. I left so satisfied that I decided I'd come back. Repeatedly. I've had the boots now for two years and I absolutely love them. What's more, when I enter, I usually see the same salesperson who invariably asks me how they fit. That's customer service.... They also have a superb shop for ski maintenance. For the last two years, I've taken our skis there for pre-season tunes, specialty repairs and end of season tune. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I've been impressed at the entry and shopping protocols they have adopted. Max 20 people in the store, masks are absolutely required, sanitizer everywhere, and credit card transactions are contactless. It gives the customer a safe feeling when the staff is also taking precautions and enforcing safe protocols. Next purchase is a new set of skis. And I'm in the research mode.....

Their selection is very impressive, and covers most, if not all the OEM's clubs that you would want to try. The free fittings are also more comfortable than expected, and I've never felt rushed, or "sold to." During an iron fitting, I ended up taking 2 hours and tried 16 different models, all trying to find our perfect fit, and never once felt obligated to get out of there, or to purchase (even though I did get the irons). Then they were very good about putting in a special order for the custom options we settled on, as well as shipping them to me for free. The driver fitting was equally about 2 hours, and I'm very pleased with the outcome. It didn't hurt that the rewards program they have made for a nice discount on the driver purchase. I've also been for two wedge fittings at different times, and the first time my swing was off, and rather than trying to force a sale, the fitter suggested reconvening at a different time, which was relieving. I came back, and am happy with the results. Great store selection, low pressure salespeople, easy custom ordering, and fantastic rewards program. With the driving range across the parking lot, it makes for a must visit fitting location that I recommend to all my VT friends. EDIT: I should also note, each time there, I've dealt with a different salesperson and each one has provided me with a solid professional experience.

My nephews (8 & 10) & I signed up for the tubing trip this morning. When they dropped us off, we…read morewere told that it would be best if we walked out a ways to the second cove in order to get the best current out into the water. We did that, with our cooler raft in tow. However, i ended up pushing my nephews in their tubes for about a half mile (past the second cove) before we were able to get going. This took about an hour and a half. About 3/4 the way through our time on the water, we heard thunder. I realized they hadn't covered what to do in the case of bad weather in the briefing. So thankfully I was able to call the company from my tube & they advised us to get out of the water if we heard thunder & wait 15 min before getting back in. We heard thunder in and off for about 45 min so stayed out of the water on some rocks while we waited. I felt like we were bothering the company when they called & they didn't seem at all concerned, telling me it was a passing shower. After we returned to the water, we saw some lightening so I tried getting us over to shore. The water was getting choppy & we weren't going anywhere so I got out of my tube & pulled all of us to shore. We built a small shelter using our tubes & tried to stay dry but at this point, it was pouring. I called the company again & they said there was nothing they could do & couldn't come pick us up based on our location. I checked my GPS & we were .6 miles away from our stopping location. The company told us to start walking back along the shore. We did that and along the way my nephew slipped on the rocks because it was still pouring. Finally, when we made it back, we had to drag all the gear up the hill (which was mentioned during the briefing but we weren't expecting to do this in the pouring rain. When we got back, I expressed my disappointment that they'd send anyone out with conditions like that expected as I truly felt our lives were in danger. The woman said no one was blaming anyone and I corrected her. Yes, I blame the company for putting our lives in danger. She explained that they had no idea about the weather conditions and that this system just popped up out of nowhere. I can understand that but at no point did anyone offer to come & help us. They could have easily walked from where they were & helped us walk back. I would not recommend this company due to the lack of safety measures & how isolated we felt when conditions got bad.
