(Note: This is a Michelin Guide restaurant, and a 2019 Michelin star restaurant).
I made a lunch reservation online, and while I initially thought upon arrival that this wasn't necessary, the restaurant quickly filled up. I visited on a Monday, so imagine they are busy most days. Reservations were easy to make when using a translation app.
I ordered a glass of red wine, which was fantastic (I love France so much for this!), along with the 3-course lunch menu. I started with the beef tataki, which was beautiful, delicious, and well worth the €3 surcharge. The plate was a piece of art, and even the flowery garnishes (beautiful beet slices) were delicious. Beneath the "flowers" was a delicate sauce that was creamy with a hint of horseradish, and was a perfect accompaniment for the beef and beets.
I ordered the fish for my main course, which the chef referred to as "black cod", which I hadn't tried before. I typically don't like cooked fish, but I decided to branch out. I'm so glad I did! The fish was cooked to perfection; it literally melted in my mouth. It was set on a bed of mini ravioli, with some type of cheese filling, along with some spinach. Topping off the dish was a delicious cream sauce containing mussels and clams, I believe. I really can't stress enough how excellent this fish was! It was the best cooked fish I have ever had.
A bit of a disappointment, however, was the dessert. I ordered the fromage blanc (white cheese), which consisted of something that was very much like Greek yogurt, and a spoonful of creme fraiche. It was very plain looking and tasting; maybe this is a classic French dish that I'm just not familiar with? After a few bites, some sugar was placed on my table, which made the creamy sourness much better. I was really quite confused about how beautiful all of the courses were, and the cheese was served with what I felt was very little attention. Even a few slices of strawberry or something would've been nice.
Service was friendly and adequately attentive, and an English waitress was brought my way after I struggled in French. At the end of my meal, the chef came out to thank me for coming, which made me feel very special. I wondered afterwards if he thought maybe I was from the Michelin Guide or something, because I did not see him greet the table that left before me. Either way, it was a wonderful touch that really made my day.
This was a solid 5 star meal based on the tataki and cod alone. Overall, a fantastic meal for a great price. read more
