The prices are very reasonable when you put those all together. We'd arrived at our hotel next door and were tired and hungry, and noticed Abydoise as we walked to the hotel's door. The hotel's desk clerk recommended Abydoise, saying it was her favorite, so we gave it a try. We were lucky to get a table as they were almost completely booked that evening, but were seated immediately. Our meals were delicious. We started with the seared tuna appetizer, which was four large bites of sushi quality tuna belly wrapped in a very thin layer of puff-pastry, resulting in an light crunch followed by very satisfying piece of tuna. The shrimp in a light curry sauce were done perfectly. I had the fish special, which was a nicely done sea bass, with perfectly seared skin that was light and crunchy. I say go, it's worth it. We thanked the hotel for recommending it to us and will definitely recommend it to others. And, the best thing I can say is we would return.

Main course consisted of moist King Cod delicately broiled on top of veggies in a thicker broth. It was accompanied by an artichoke purée which was out of this world and I'd not seen this before. Dessert was a raspberry ice bar (sorbet consistency) accompanied by cherry and leechy fruit marinated in a sweet liquor. This is a must stop when in Paris.

I used to come here and sit at my table writing my postcards for hours-not that I takes hours to write postcards but I just loved killing time here. It seemed like this place had a very local air because of all the regulars that stop by at almost any time of the day. There are morning regulars and there are mid-day regulars, afternoon regulars, evening regulars etc. I always enjoyed watching them having a blast but unfortunately I couldn't join them most of the time because of my lack of french speaking skills. Although I couldn't speak french, that doesn't mean they don't happily help you when you ask for something in english. The people at the bar are very friendly and helpful; I loved the fact that they gave me very useful tips on finding local bars that are not very touristy and swarming with unlocals. :) This cafe was also located at a perfect corner for me because right across the road from this corner you get to Rue Mouffetard, where you can find many many interesting spots for your 'literary walk'.

The steak and gratin were delicious, but the salmon was trapped in a case of burnt sesame seeds (and heavily dressed in miso(?) sauce). Lesson: don't order Asian dishes at a French cafe. The espresso was good and woke me up from all the wine I had. It's hard to leave when servers leave you alone to socialize all afternoon. Some tourists don't like this, but I appreciate it. I saw several groups at different tables order fromage blanc - and wish I had room for dessert.
