The atmosphere is elegant- but we were not really dressed up and it was fine. The waitstaff spoke English, that always helps us! Started out with various bruschetta appetizers - tasty on the buttery toast. Oh and had the house wines. I had shrimp and prawns- kinda messy but worth it. Had rosemary seasoned fried potatoes on the side. Many people split the big pieces of steak that were cooked to perfection. Most ordered on the more rare side. We had an authentic Tuscan 2 hour lunch. You order from items written daily on a chalk board. You can point if you don't speak Italian. But they love for you to make an effort at sounding out the words. (google translate helps). You don't have to order so many items but when in Tuscany... It's a short walk from the centre of town, nothing in Palaia is very far away! We read a lot about the view, and while the view from Palaia is stunning in general, you can't see quite as much of it from the patio, especially if you aren't right up against the edge. We started with antipasti for two which was a massive, massive portion of meat, cheese, olives, and bread. It was all delicious, but if we'd finished it we'd have been stuffed. Know that before ordering! They don't play around with antipasto in Italy. Save it for a big group, or pair it with just a pasta maybe. We followed it up with a pasta to share, and a steak. The steak wasn't nearly as rare as we'd liked, although it did have great flavor. If you want it rare, you have to ask (we thought that was a Tuscan thing, but apparently the super-rare steak is specifically Florentine and you won't necessarily get it in other places). A side of beans, and we were stuffed and happy. The menu here is made up of affordable, reliable, and filling Tuscan classics. Along with the loads of outdoor seating and relaxed atmosphere, this is a great place for a meal - and we didn't have to book on a Friday! But you probably should in cold weather if the patio is closed.

This was by far the best quality meal I've ever had in my 61 years, and I am a food lover. Ingredients were fresh and the seasonings very subtle! Roberto made us 7-8 small dishes for us to share.
