During my trip to Bordeaux, I heard amazing things about this place based on the Google reviews (guilty as I didn't know Yelp existed in Europe). There were about 8k reviews - crazy! My mom, boyfriend, and I were in line at 6:40pm (big mistake), and missed the first service by just 4 parties... so we waited for another hour before seating. Thankfully, it was not raining at all. When we got seated, our waiter was very friendly and asked if we spoke English in which he spoke to us throughout the night. There was only one order we could choose from which was the appetizer of salad with pecan and their steak with their house special sauce. They had a huge selection of desserts after the meal, though. We were able to customize the way our steak was prepared and asked for medium rare. The steak did come out a little rarer than what Americans are used to, but that was ok with all of us! The salad came out first, and it was drenched in this delicious oil vinaigrette that my mom really liked. She really enjoyed the salad. The steak was SUPER tender and the sauce, omg. DELICIOUS. Highly addicting even with the complimentary French bread. We just couldn't get enough of this house special sauce! Well, I couldn't. It was some kind of oil vinaigrette + other thing (like a beefy foam?). I couldn't distinguish the taste... but it was delicious! The fries were also fresh and tasted amazing with the sauce. We unfortunately didn't order any drinks or desserts afterwards. But they looked and sounded amazing! Overall, the steak was delicious! This would have definitely gone well with rice but the fries were a nice addition to dip with the house special sauce. Definitely try going at least 30-45 mins before opening. We are steak and frites fiends when in France. There is something about the steak butter pepper sauce, whatever is in there, that we cannot get enough of. Give us some bread and unlimited golden crispy fries? Get out of here!!! In our 2 night stay in Bordeaux, we visited L'Entrecote twice. Yes, twice. The first time was around 9pm because our flight arrived late and one of our bags was lost. We waited for about 30 minutes in the cold night, but life was perfect once we got in and got our hands on the steak and frites. The second time we went right before it opened. The line was super long, but the wait wasn't bad at all (maybe 10-15 minutes). Some logistics to be helpful. They serve one meal: the steak and frites (I think it's a lot of value at 22 euros). The steak is only served rare, medium rare, or medium. Another American couple next to us tried to order medium well and it was a no-go. I would go with the medium because it does tend to err on the rare side of things. I tried the medium rare, which was good, but the medium cook was perfect. It comes with a starter walnut salad and bread. Save that bread for the steak sauce - trust me. When they bring out your steak and frites, they also bring out a silver platter with the rest of your steak in the delicious sauce. Halfway through, they come around with a platter of fries and tell you to say when. Due to the pressures of society, I say when after 3-4 scoops, but just know you can probably get more than that. read more

Coming here as an American, unsure if it's a personnel or restaurant SOP but if you come with a group and not all of you are eating, the non-eating person doesn't get a chair or place serving. We were seated at a corner area and the non eating person was literally put in the corner with their café au lait. At least the group was able to stay together. And the dirty looks from the other patrons was embarrassing I'm sure for the eating Americans. The dining area is pretty and table space is tight. There is a second floor available but unsure is there's an escalator for those who have mobility issues. The staff definitely does not speak English. Good luck read more

(Last visited 7/10/2021.) While having a drink and light lunch atop the InterContinental Bordeaux we spotted a SUPER LONG LINE across the street outside of this place. Now, when you see a line, there's usually a reason for that line. Lol. So we had to go check it out ourselves. Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Right in what appears to be one of the main plazas of the Center of Bordeaux is this gem. The restaurant's name, L'Entrecôte literally translates to "The Rib Steak" and that's all this restaurant serves. Once inside the multi-story restaurant you're taken back to the era of this place's inception. Service: I can't remember the name of the young lady who took care of us, but she was sweet, funny and made sure us foreigners had everything that we needed. Food: So it's pretty simple here. You get very limited options here. You get a walnut salad as a your pre-dinner whistle wetter, then you get the delicious steak that's cooked in GARLIC BUTTER topped with more garlic-based sauce. This was SO GOOD. It was tender, deliciously buttery-salty, garlicky, just fantastic. I can clearly see why there was a line wrapped around the building for this place. The fries were great too! Crispy and made perfectly to dip into the garlic butter sauce that the steak was cooked in. Value: I can't remember the exact dollar amount for the meal, but I know I was blown away by the amount of food we got for what we paid. Seriously. The value here is incredible so you don't have to break the bank to check this place out. In conclusion, if you want to get in here without waiting too long, simply wait for the line to die down or for the end of the night after the crowds are gone. I honestly think this place deserves a higher rating than 3 stars. In my opinion, you get a good value for the money you pay here. My wife and i came here and waited about 30 minutes in the rain before the doors opened. We got seated pretty quickly and since the menu is simple, the food started coming out right away. Also the half bottle of the house wine is very affordable and decent. Service was decent as well, considering that they have to serve a lot of folks at one time. We ordered our meat medium which is equal to a med-rare here in the states. If you order medium rare your basically getting raw. Overall we enjoyed our experience, but i can see how if people are waiting hrs, then the experience may not live up to the hype. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself around the corner from this restaurant. I've heard of them back in the states and happened to show up about the time they opened. And I'm very thankful for that as the restaurant quickly filled up with people that were there for the famous steak and French fry dinner. The staff quickly seated my mother and I three floors up, and before I knew it, we were asked how we wanted our steak cooked and what size bottle of wine did we want. When you come to a place that only serves one meal, you know that it's gotta be good. You're started with a small salad of romaine and walnuts. Next comes the main event. The ribeye was high quality and cooked to order, drenched in a spiced butter sauce. The fries were thin and seasoned to perfection. The Bordeaux served with the meal complimented the steak perfectly. Great steak and fries place! My friend took me here when we were visiting Bordeaux and we arrived right when they opened so there was no wait. However, the place was filling up quickly! There is only one set menu so there isn't much to browse the menu for. It comes with some bread to start, salad, and then the steak and fries. The overall meal was very enjoyable. I got the steak medium rare and it was so tender and perfectly seasoned. The sauce they use is sooo good, although very oily. I loved putting it on my fries. They sadly did not have ketchup, but do have mustard as a condiment. I also believe they'll give you more fries as our waitress asked if we'd like more. Quite an experience... We were looking for some late night dining and wandered across this restaurant, with a large queue in front, so we took a flyer and got line. The have steak fries, and that is it on the menu, which is okay since they do it wonderfully! The meal started with their signature, and simple, walnut salad. Our steak was perfectly prepared, seasoned well, and swimming in this tasty butter sauce. The fries were hot, crispy and seasoned. All for 17 euro! We did choose the 18 euro bottle of red wine to go with our meal, and while not a great wine, it was a good wine and went well with the meal. The service was great - friendly, fast and courteous. We got to this place about 20 minutes before it opened at 7, and the line was already all the way to the corner! The restaurant was pretty big though, and the line moved fast. I'd say it was well worth the wait. There's only one thing you can order for your meal: a set menu starting with a little salad with an oil dressing and walnuts and a main dish of steak frites for a little under 20€. We also ordered the house wine. Overall, this was a really fun experience. The atmosphere was lively and the service was good. The steak was really good for the price and the portion was generous. I was intrigued by the sheer number of reviews on Google that all raved about L'entrecote so my friends and I made a point of coming here during our stay in Bordeaux. Like many said, it definitely feels like a tourist trap...like a bovine Cheesecake Factory of France. The set menu is €19.50 and your table will receive individual plates of lettuce salad to start, followed by the main course: sliced sirloin done to order with a large pile of fries, generally coated with butter. They will also place an extra serving worth of steak per person on the table, also swimming in butter. Fries are bottomless. Do not ask for ketchup because I think that might be a mortal sin in France. The steak itself is not the highest quality; there are more tender steaks to be had in the city, at not-astronomical prices. The fries were good but...they're fries. Overall I felt underwhelmed given the hype, and would recommend eating at any of the small bistros also located in town which are a bit more personable (and with a greater variety of food). read more

This is a firm favourite with the family especially the other half and we have been to both of the branches in London. So we thought why not try it for our first meal in Bordeaux. I agree it is a chain restaurant and part of the appeal of a chain restaurant is that you know what you will get. It was a quick service but nothing that we are not used to in this place. Everything was as i would expect, the fries were amazing and crispy, the steak was cooked to perfection and the salad oh the salad now this is were I took off the one star from giving it a 5 star rating. Our salads a combination of lettuce leafs and walnuts dressed in a mustard vinaigrette well there was no dressing and it was bland almost like they had just washed it and placed it on the plate as quick as possible. First of all, the line, if there is one moves really fast. Worth the wait! I would say I prefer the one in Paris a little more though. The steak-frites had the same butter sauce, but it was not presented in the same sized portions as in Paris, smaller here. So...I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars on L'Entrecote. On the one hand, it's a chain restaurant/tourist trap and it feels like a chain restaurant/tourist trap. But, on the other hand, we had fun here and we enjoyed our meal! You sit down and the only questions you are asked are how you want your meat cooked and what you want to drink. The meat comes in a large portion with bottomless fries. Both the meat and fries were very good, and the meat was perfectly cooked. I visited L'Entrecote during a recent work trip to Bordeaux. My colleagues were raving about the restaurant, so I decided to give it a shot. First of all, the place is conveniently located in the central part of Bordeaux, walking distance from many of the city's attractions. The restaurant's multiple floors (I think there were three or four), mean that they will most likely be able to seat you if things are busy. I've been told that the line moves quickly if there is a wait. I wouldn't recommend L'Entrecote if you are looking for variety. Basically, you just tell them how you want your steak cooked. You'll get steak, frittes and a salad. I'm not a huge red meat fan, but this steak was AMAZING. The garlic butter sauce didn't hurt either. I could've ordered another round, it was that good. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful. The frittes were nicely done and even the salad was refreshing (extremely basic, but it had a nice dressing). We were passing by this restaurant last night on our walk back to our hotel and saw that the line wrapped around the block, so we knew we had to try it. We came for lunch and arrived 15 minutes before opening and there was already 20 people waiting. Now there's only 1 option for your meal: steak and fries. Decided to give this restaurant a try, because of the long line and reviews. Waited for the restaurant to open at noon, and everybody in line got a seat. The restaurant was really clean and had a nice atmosphere. All of the servers were females, and most of them were older. Don't let that fool you, because they were moving quick and nonstop! Very friendly with smiles. There was no menu, because it was a set meal. I did have the option of how I wanted my beef. Everyone was served water, salad, and bread right away. Then came the main entree... About 1/3 of my medium-cooked thinly sliced beef with their secret sauce surrounded by fries were served on a plate. The other 2/3 of beef was being warmed on a metal plate over two tea light candles. Yum! Beef was very tasty! Fries were very good too, and you can ask for more bread or fries if you want. One thing at the end that was a turned off was I saw different servers cleaning up tables and placed all UNEATEN bread back into the main bucket of bread waiting for the next customer.
