This place came out of nowhere! Like seriously, in a town with like hardly any people, you have a…read morerestaurant that feels American!! Like country music playing over the speakers and all. Super bizarre, but comforting if you're American. I digress, the decor is like something out of what you would see in the Christmas movie where the dad bought a lamp that was a lady's leg and silk shade with tassels lol . All the lamps were like that, the seats all a deep burgundy, the flooring dark too so the place felt dark. The way this place works, without you asking they bring everyone complimentary salads and bread. Score!! Then they give you like a Receipt, and we were like we haven't ordered, in our sign language to them and vice a versa we figured out, we had to scan a QR code menu would come up and you'd place your order from there, so we didn't really have wait staff. No worries, all good. We ordered a kids meal for my son, ribs Mac And cheese and desert. It was a lot of food for the price. The ribs were good. I too ordered the ribs with green beans, my son took those green beans and went to town with them, he then got the fries that came with my husbands meal and dipped those into the green bean "juice " because it was so good. My ribs were not especially good or bad, they were just there. My husband had the rump steak. He asked for medium rare because we had been to another restaurant the night before that he asked for medium well, and they tortured that meat, so he thought it would be the same but it wasn't. He then asked the staff to cook a little more and apologized for his mistake and the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. His steak was a little dry on the outside and he said it needed a sauce like A1, but he didn't want to inconvenience them again. Plus, the staff doesn't stop working, like nonstop, but maybe for Americans it feels a little like we are being left to our own devices and tend for ourselves. In other words, we aren't being pampered so it feels odd, but again it a reoccurring theme every where so it's not personal. I think they feel like they don't want to intrude on us and we feel the same. Ha ha Overall, I'm glad we went because it was the only restaurant open so, and maybe they were rushing to get home, but they never rushed us to get out. I think we will try other ones in the area to give them a shot before going back here again.

What a find in Basel! Think of this as Japanese fusion. The staff was really nice and friendly, and…read morethe food was great. I ordered the tuna tataki and the surf and turf, and everything came out great. They have a small conveyor belt sushi on one end of the restaurant and a teppanyaki table on the other. The setup is really nice - sit at the teppanyaki if there are seats available and watch your food being cooked. The portions are generous. The tuna was seared nicely and the sauce was delicious. The surf and turf came with shrimp which had an amazing butter sauce. And the filet was perfectly cooked to medium raw - so tender. Presentation of the food was also nicely done.

We are visiting Basel from Hawaii after the Viking River Cruise and we were craving good sushi,…read moretempura and a bowl of rice. We were lucky to find HATTORI SUSHI AND STEAKHOUSE right next to our hotel(Radisson BLU Hotel). We were greeted by the owner Nick who made us feel very welcome. The decor of the restaurant had an Asian flair and an ambience that was very comfortable. The restaurant had a moving sushi bar with an array of choices and Teppanyaki U shape counter. Hattori opened 5 Months ago. To start we had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Ahi Tuna Tataki with a Kirin Premium beer. The Tempura was light and crispy with a flavorful dipping sauce. The Tuna Tataki was seared to perfection with the right amount of seasoning and topped with daikon/sauce. The Steak was done medium rare with a variety of sautéed mushrooms including shiitake. It was plated with a nice delicate sauce with cubed gelatin flavored with shiitake mushroom dashi, mirin, shoyu and sake. Chef Alek served us his soft and tasty Homemade bread with a marinated broccoli spread. Executive Chef Alek's creations are so tasty. We ended the dinner with shot of Yamasaki Whiskey which won a world title as best in class and Sweet Umeshu. It was an excellent meal and we felt at home with the friendly staff and owner. We highly recommend Hattori Sushi/Steakhouse and hope you all will check it out. Your taste buds will be treated to an awesome epicurean experience!
