We ordered a variety of traditional foods and shared, to get to try more of their options. I know when you're traveling in Paris, you only have a limited number of meals and you don't wanna waste one. This is worth it!

I suspect the waitress dropped the knife as she was passing behind my back. She was non-apologetic and extremely aggressive and rude. Arguing that she did not know where the knife was coming from?! This should not have been her first reaction. I have to assume that somehow she lost the knife from a plate. She kept arguing with me when I pointed out that she should have shown some concerns and simply apologize. She initially did not. Eventually she came to her senses and finally somehow gave a fake apology. We left the premises without eating anything. The atmosphere was dark and kind of depressed. I have to assume that the owner must have been away. Quand le chat n'est pas la, les Souris dansent.

Fries were very good, but we ordered too much food. Service was excellent, they are used to tourists for sure, but also indulged me while I practiced my French. There's only a few tables if you want to eat inside (I think 3?) so plan on takeaway, and eat somewhere with a nice view.

Five Fabulous Stars for: 1) Amazing Falafel, just so delicious and crispy on the outside and not pasty but perfect on the inside. Hot and fresh, they had a few in the bin but told me it would be a couple of minutes for the new ones. Love it! 2) Love the limitless topping bar with a bunch of great sauces and veggie toppings. The grilled cauliflower was DAYUMMM ( CJ in NY I am trying but only you have the true impact) as were the marinated chick peas. The green sauce Wowza! Fries were fantastic with a killer seasoning. 3) The hours are perfect for the jet lagged and up at 1:15 am ( Paris time which is 7:15 pm previous day in NY) folks with the gavone hunger pangs. Close at 2 am Thursday through Saturday. Open at 11 am daily. 4) Nice location right in the 5th district of Paris ( Latin Quarter) just south of the Siene river. Clean interior and COVID and mask compliant. 5) 2 fivers for a big ass falafel sandwich, plus a huge order of fries and a bottle of Perrier. No that's too French. Just regular agua. The employees are sweet and generous and kept piling on the toppings per my request,. Nine Euros( $ 10.20 approx) is a steal for this quality and quantity plus the excellent and generous service. Few seats inside. Just grab the two mega falafel sandwiches, walk a few yards and grab a seat next to me ( or 2 metres away ;) in this very cool district of Paris.

The only reason why Au Vieux Cèdre's bewitching Shawarma does not appear in the pages of "A…read moreMoveable Feast" is because the small Lebanese joint opened its doors more than half a century after Ernest Hemingway lived (and ate) literally around the corner... A stone throw away from La Place de la Contrescarpe, and Hemingway's apt at 74 Rue du Cardinal Lemoine (the place where Verlaine died as well), I can assure you that the voracious writer would have devoured many a shawarma, kastas or falafels, as these are indeed "moveable feasts" that you can savor on the go while on your Paris explorations, without being rattan chair bound elbow-to-elbow with other Parisians, as you surely will be (and should be) eventually. This little hole in the wall has indeed the best shawarma I've ever had in three continents, and it's a must have for those on literary pilgrimages in the area. Also try the Soujouk; squashy spicy beef with tomato and hummus. This was my favorite fast food spot while in my 3 month + Paris residency, and the perfect antebellum when sauntering the quaintness of the Rue Mouffetard. No pun intended, but Pardon my French (in every way, really). But I'm just so fucking glad that Yelp has gone Paris!!?? C'est Cool!

This place has a (good) hole in the wall quality that is an excellent change of pace from the touristy fare abounding on the Left Bank. Refuel and rest here for continued exploration of the remnants of medieval Paris. I would definitely return!
