A truly larger than life monument. A beautiful part of Paris and a must visit. I wanted to make my way to the top but the lines were way too long. read more

Beautiful beautiful beautiful. When your up close the detail is amazing. Must see if your in Paris obviously. read more

If you're in town, you have to stop by. There are tickets available to walk around on top if you would like, but it's not necessary.

It's beautiful, it's a central landmark, and it overlooks the Champs Elysées. Definitely a must-see while in Paris. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the top, which probably would have made me love this more. Despite a short line, it literally did not move for 15 minutes so we left. Also fun - my friend and I asked a random tourist to take a picture of us in front of the Arc. When we checked the camera later, this person somehow managed to take a picture of us that didn't include the monument. C'est la vie. read more

I usually only review restaurants but when in Paris... you must come here and go up to the top.

This is one of the "Must sees" in Paris. However this is not one of my favourites, you do have to see it. Driving on the round point surrounding it, however .... is a deathwish. Although we did survive, we will not be doing this again :p read more

Somehow we had managed to miss the underpass stairway that takes you to the Arc, probably because we were pretty awestruck by the actual landmark itself. Plus we walked across and stayed in the middle of the street to get pictures and slid into tourist mode. It was very cool to see the inscriptions up close and see it from the view of looking down the Champs Elysees. It's a very worthwhile site to see. Unfortunately, the line was too long for us to want to get to the top. Maybe next time we are in Paris we'll try to get to it earlier or later to avoid the wait. read more

If you have limited time in Paris, this is a site you can skip. It's striking, yes, but it's definitely not the most amazing thing in all of the city. I find it underwhelming. read more

The Arc de Triomphe is such a sight to see. When the Metro was approaching it before the turn at the round a bout, I caught my first glimpse and my heart fluttered a little. It looked just like the photos. We rode an open tour bus that gave us a better view of the artwork on the Arc and it looks so magnificent. The recording on the bus informed us that Napolen's tomb was actually carried through the Arc. On our last day in Paris, we decided to climb the Arc. Be prepared with water, its 284 steps to be exact. There is a point in the middle to stop (with restrooms and a souvenir area) but the first climb up there was the worst. Bring water! But the sight up top of the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Elysee was totally worth it! I would suggest you all climb it. It is included in the Paris Museum Pass and if not, it is 9 euros at the door :) read more

Beautiful. People say that montmarte is the best view of Paris but I believe standing at the top of the Arc is even better. It cost 6 euros to ascend the 284 step stairwell to the top of the Arc. The view is breathtaking. You can see Paris from every angle, castles and churches prominent in the distance among the millions of structures surrounding the town. Make sure to walk around several times and just take in the architecture of the city. Inside the arc you can learn about the art sculpted all around the Arc itself and familiarize yourself with it's history more. The Arc has a camera in the center of the structure pointing to the ground which can be viewed on a screen inside the arc. Be sure to do a little dance wave to the other tourist up above, Create a flash mob or anything to mess with the people up top watching read more

loved it. good workout going up all them stairs! nice views of paris and champ elysees read more

Our hotel was 5 minutes walk from here. Absolutely wonderful experience during the day and at night. Didn't buy the tickets to go up or inside, but it's great just to come here. Definitely a must see! read more

We took the usual pictures of our family outside along the traffic circle. Then we went across, through the tunnel and up the 200+ steps to the top. It was well worth it. Once on top you see the entire city of Paris, particularly on a clear day, which we were able to experience. Make sure to take your time going around at least a couple of times. It was included in our Paris Museum Pass but if you have to pay it is still worth it. read more

My first steps in Paris, France were in right near the Arc de Triomphe. How could I not take a few pictures with it holding all my things? I think it's impossible to visit France without seeing this structure in person since it epitomizes a central hub in the city. I saw lots of people going to the top of Arc--it didn't really seem worth it but I guess someone who went to the top and saw a great view would say otherwise. Sadly, on my last day of the trip waiting for a bus to the airport, my bag was stolen at a restaurant off one of the roads surrounding the Arc--may their souls rest in ****. Have to take away one star since the area is crawling with thieves--BE CAREFUL. read more

Worth a visit! Come during sunset so you can see the Arc and the views in the day and at night. Champs Elysees is also very pretty at night. Going up the Arc is pretty expensive though at €12 for adults and €9 reduced, but it's worth it if you haven't been up before. I had to climb 284 stairs to the top because the lift was broken, but it was worth it! read more

Boy, trying to fit in both sightseeing and shopping in a 2 day, 1 night trip is DIFFICULT. But we did not miss out seeing the Arc du Triomph but decided against going up the top. Daytime, it's not going to be that impressive but it was still oh so very pretty and grand and that's all you need to remind you that you're in Paris. Didn't want to go the usual tourist route as I heard pickpockets are super rife at those particular metro stations, so I opted to walk from Kleber or George V and it was much more relaxed. read more

Interesting point of architecture but to get to the top is a long hike of stairs. There is a hidden elevator for the disabled or otherwise. Tickets can be bought online and you can go directly to the entrance of the building. read more

The view is awesome! It does require quite a few steps so wear comfortable shoes. The breeze at the top is so nice. And the view can't be beat. The Eiffel Tower is higher but you don't get jostled and pushed at the too of the arc so my pictures were better. It's nice. read more

L'Arc de Triomphe - Landmarks & Historical Buildings Near Me - Paris, 75

Definitely do not miss the Arc de Triomphe in person. If you have the chance to go inside even just once, do it! and don't forget the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. L'Arc de Triomphe: It's beauty and majesty is undeniable and somber as you reflect it's meaning for many of its troops who gave their lives fighting for their country. Also one of the deadliest roundabouts in the world i'm sure. You think roundabouts in DC are bad? I find it almost incomprehensible how drivers maneuvered without causing massive pileups every minute of the day and I'm pretty sure I had a few heart attacks in the cab everytime they went that way sheesh. read more

I was expecting this Arc to be relatively small because I had only seen it in small pictures, but it was really big!! My pants were a little tight, but that's my fault. Pictures pictures pictures!!! These guys did a great job with the Arc! You can go through it in multiple directions, and the guy at the hotel was super helpful with understanding the cartoons and way to squint so it looks like a big box. I am so happy! Way to go! read more

Grandiose monument that well represents France's history. The views of Paris from the top are magnificent, and even better than from the Eiffel Tower. You are at the center of the "etoile" with grand avenues opening up on each side. The views that I saw at night during the Christmas markets on the Champs Elysees were sparkling and colorful with lights. On the ground under the Arc, you may catch the ceremony of the Unknown Soldier taking place. Unfortunately there is always an infinite line of tourists to go up, therefore to avoid it go in the early morning, before it closes, or off peak season. There are small exhibits inside the Arc de Triomphe. You may go up via spiraling stairs, a unique experience in its own. Costs 10 euros to go up. If you are under 26 years old and a French resident or student in France, you can go up for free. read more

Get ready for a work out, because there's tons of stairs to get to the top for one of the best views of Paris. The is also an area outside where you could get the best frontal view of the entire Arc in the picture. read more

To understand the appeal of this you actually have to go see it in person. There's underground tunnels that connect the roundabout area. So getting from one side to the other is very simple. However, watch out for the gypses around here they will try to get you to give them money. There's also people trying to get you to donate to what ever cause they are working on. Just don't make eye contact. I thought I was signing a simple petition but the chick was trying to shake me down for money. I may be an American but I am not an idiot. read more

Nice place to take pics but how does anyone drive around this thing without crashing into each other?!?

Of course you should see the Arc de Triomphe but to go to the rooftop there is an elevator for disabled and even I had my grand mother with me but the lady who was checking my ticket didn't tell me about that. I remember that I filled a complaint about it but I have not heard back from them. My 0-1 star rating goes for their bad customer service and lying about contacting us after we left. Honestly I don't have a good memory from French people. France is going down with awful people and bad leadership. I wish that instead of going there I went to Italy read more

Of course the iconic Arc de Triomphe gets 5 stars. It doesn't disappoint one bit. We visited on July 14th, so it was draped in French flags and there was some kind of ceremony taking place in the early afternoon. Eventually, later in the evening, we were able to ascend for the view. Amazingly, as young Europeans, entry was free of charge! This saved us €8 each, which was fantastic. I love being part of Europe. The monument is beautiful, with stunning architecture and views. It truly is a symbol of, not only France, but of Europe as well. It's easy to access by metro, the views are well worth even the €8 fee, and you can have the honour of standing on one of the most important monuments in the world. It's a must-visit. read more

I highly recommend going to the top. You get great views of Paris below. You realize how the entire city seems to converge on this single point. One of many reasons why Paris is such a world class city. read more

One of my favourite monuments to visit in Paris. From the moment you come up the stairs into the Place d'Étoile and under the centre of the Arc, you know you're someplace special - seeing the flame of the Unknown Soldier, and all of the bouquets of flowers laid in memoriam. The first time I visited, some veterans were kind enough to let us hold their bouquet and take a photo with it. The climb up the stairs to the top is worth it! You have a 360 degree view around Paris and all of its special monuments. This monument is included on the Paris Museum Pass, which I highly recommend for anyone visiting Paris! read more

This was a really nice sight. The tombs and eternal light at the bottom are lovely and the views from the top are nice too. My first trip to Paris I didn't know that you could even go to the top so it was a nice new experience for me on my second trip. Please note that if you want to go up the Arc you have to enter from a lower level across the street. It's a little confusing. The views are great though. All roads lead to the Arc so it's just cool. It also affords you a really nice view of the Champs and the Eiffel Tower itself (something that is sorely lacking when you go to the top of the Tower). If I had to chose one I'd say to climb the Arc so that you can see the Tower. read more

Seeing Arc de Triomphe is a bucket list item, people! When you finally see it you'll be gaping at it, slack-jawed, because of the majesty and beauty of it. Plus the rest of Paris is pretty cool too. P.S. the traffic in the roundabout there is insane, and if I lived there I don't think I'd feel encouraged to use my car in the city. read more

Don't visit Paris without coming here. This landmark lives up to the hype and is as impressive as the photos suggest. What really sticks out for me about the Arc was going to the top. The view from the top is stunning and better than any picture could produce. Go later in the day when the line dies down a bit and the lighting is better (and not so direct... there is no shade cover up top and that kind of sucks). If you stay up there long enough you'll most likely get to see a traffic accident from the stupid traffic circle that surrounds the arc and has zero lanes with a dozen roads entering it. How they ever thought that what a good idea is beyond me, but alas that has nothing to do with the Arc except DON'T cross the street. There is a tunnel: use it or get hit. read more

The view up top is amazing. Just be prepared to climb a million steps. read more

Watch the sunset from the top. Watch Paris come to life at night and see the lights come on at the Eiffel Tower. Be amused at the insanity of the traffic circle as people rush to get home. Take the stairs and stop to enjoy the statues and carvings and bas-reliefs. This is a war memorial - please be respectful while here. Tips: The museum pass works here and allows you to skip the line for tickets. If you go during the day bring sunblock and a hat. If you go at night it can be breezy, so bring a jacket. Also? There will be a crush of tourists, so be patient. read more

We had to see the Arc because there is a mini version in NYC near NYU which upon further research is half as tall as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. What prompted to actually do this kind of research? The massive size of this arc! the fine details of this arc is truly something to behold. Yes you can purchase tickets to go up the arc, but I did not go. Conclusion: this masterpiece kicks the one in NYC in the arse. read more

I stumbled upon this gem around 7:30am, after taking a wrong turn, as I was making my way to the Champs-Élysées. It was a lovely sight to see. Go early because this place is really crowded by 10am. Friendly Note: Make sure you avoid the annoying people asking for money. (These people want you to sign some bogus form for a made up cause. They are very pushy, and they try to look in people's wallets) Just avoid them. I do believe these scam artist are located around most of the major tourist attractions. They were haggling this older, elderly couple, and I stepped in and was like "Oh there you are! Come on Gramdma, we need to catch the bus." They were very thankful I helped since they were bombarded by four of these people pressuring them for money. read more

This is a landmark that you should see when you go to Paris, but for me personally, it wasn't much more than that. I took a few pictures and looked at it for a while, but that was about it. read more

We didn't go to the top, but just seeing this historic landmark a good number of times during our week in Paris (whether it was from close-up, far away or from a rooftop elsewhere) was always great to see! So, what is a trip to Paris without paying a visit to the Arc de Triumph. Mind you, as a site it is pretty impressive, and I was suitably impressed when I paid it a visit (and it is definitely much better than that radio tower on the Champs de Mars). Basically it is a war memorial, original set up to commemorate the revolutionary and Nepoleonic wars, but to include later wars as well, including World War I and an eternal flame. While you can get a pretty good look at it by walking around the other side of the street, there is a tunnel that grants you access to the Arc itself (though it doesn't connect with the metro station, which is really annoying because you have to go up, and the down again if you come, or leave, by train). The arc also houses a museum, and you can climb to the top, but both of those things require you to purchase a ticket. However if you just want to wander around the inside, and outside, of the arc you can pretty much do that for free. While I would suggest that it is a must visit place in Paris (and doesn't take too much time either) I suspect that if you end up in Paris you will probably go and check it out anyway. read more
