Visiting Volterra for the day, we wandered upon this place on a side street, took a look at the menu and decided that THIS was the place we were eating at. However they were still setting up for lunch, they asked us to come back in 10 minutes. So we walked on, and looked around at many other places. None tickled our fancy like this place, so we turned around and went back...SO glad we did!
As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the staff and set at a table quickly. This place is MUCH bigger than it looks from the outside, as when you enter you are in a small "trattoria" area, but are led to the restaurant through the arch way. Many tables for seating, music throughout the place, and a menu full of everything I wanted!
We ended up ordering a salad, lasagna, and spaghetti arrabiata.
When the salad came out, I was completely overwhelmed with not only the beauty, but the size. However...I ate it all! Ha. The lasagna was layer noodles with cheese and a type of meat sauce that overlapped on the top. My spaghetti arrabiata was the most perfect al dente topped with tomatoes and red peppers. Needless to say, we ate everything, almost in 1 swoop.
The atmosphere is inviting, welcoming when in there, and so friendly you want to stay to eat more. Whereas I may never visit Volterra again, this place makes me think that if we are on a trip close by, I would make the journey just to eat there again!
The best decision we made that day was retuning in 10 minutes! read more
