I ended up hiring Move It On Up because they gave me a competitive bid and frankly just seemed more confident in their ability to do the job. We needed to split the move over two days because we wanted to leave our house staged to sell. The first move, they arrived with 4 people and a truck and got to work packing everything. The girls packed and Keith and Luis moved everything to the truck. They literally ran everywhere they went from 8am-5:30pm. The move went perfect and they finished in the exact time they had estimated in the initial walk through. Not a thing broke in the move. For the second move, it was a week later and it was all of the remaining furniture. Keith, Luis and one other guy showed up with a truck at 8am. They moved everything out again in the exact amount of time they had estimated. They were running the whole time like on day one! When it was all said and done, I owed him the exact amount that he had quoted me for the whole move. Everything made it safely to the old house and we were extremely happy with the service provided. Remarkably, ACTS Crating and Transportation Services was the last company I had seen on Yelp, and…read morealmost didn't call them. What a mistake that would have been! I had contacted other movers, but ultimately I was looking for a company to complete my overseas move by crating my oil paintings for safe transit. I had completed all other packing into boxes and needed someone to move the boxes to a freight forwarder on the other side of Houston, but to pack the paintings for an overseas shipment. The issue was I needed this at short notice, within a couple of days. I called into ACTS and spoke directly to Rick. Rick immediately began to understand my situation and asked questions about the move which showed not only his competence and command of the situation, (which was clear evidence that he had significant experience in such moves), but asked detailed questions on every aspect of the shipment contents. It was clear he wanted to be sure he was able to confirm not only that he was able to deliver a solution in the short time frame, but that the estimate for my job was both realistic and competitive. Rick then checked on the resources he had available and called back quickly to let me know that he was unable to make the move within my initial two days request, but that it would be possible by the end of the week. After I checked with my Shipping Agent, I confirmed with Rick that his job timing was good, and could be accepted. Right on time, Rick sent a team of two to load their truck and move the belongings back to their warehouse where crating could be made. Observations on the team were that they were very professional, took pictures of the load before moving anything, and were incredibly efficient with no wasted time. They also wore the company uniforms which communicated a strong air of professionalism in their service. After the items were returned to the warehouse, Rick subsequently advised me that their original quote was able to be reduced significantly, as they were able to comfortably and safely crate the smaller items in with the larger paintings. This resulted in more than $225 in savings. As an extra, Rick was also able to remove each and every one of the 40+ original shipping labels and replace them with the new shipping date labels I had emailed him. No small feat to remove and replace into plastic shipping pouches, it takes time, for sure. All part of the service as far as Rick was concerned. What a huge weight off my shoulders. The billing was fast, and upon completion of e-payment, my shipment was loaded and taken to its final destination within the hour. I can only say without a shadow of a doubt, that the experience I had with ACTS and especially the professionalism displayed by Rick and his team in meeting my tight schedule and requirements is second to none when it comes to moving. I do not say this lightly. I have been in the Oil & Gas industry almost 30 years and have traveled and lived in more than 37 countries. On each occasion that I had to move my home, it was without exception a period of great anxiety. However, on this occasion, it was truly painless. I was assigned Jimmy, Anderson, and Jose, and from the beginning, they were patient, professional, and understanding. When we arrived at my storage facility, we were met with something completely unexpected, my belongings had been severely damaged due to an infestation at the storage facility. I was unaware of the situation and was completely shocked to discover that rats had destroyed many of my personal belongings. The movers explained that because of the extent of the damage and infestation, they could not safely pack everything. Despite the circumstances, the team showed incredible compassion and understanding. Knowing I was already overwhelmed especially being pregnant and dealing with such a stressful situation they still did everything they could to help salvage and move what was possible. Unfortunately, some items had to be left behind because the damage was simply too severe. I was moving from Southwest Houston to the Galveston area, nearly an hour away, and despite the unexpected delays and challenges, the team worked quickly to load, transport, and unload my belongings at my new apartment. What stood out most was their kindness at the end of the move. I came up short on the remaining balance due to everything that had happened unexpectedly, and they showed empathy and allowed me to pay what I had available at the time. I will be the first to admit that I am high-maintenance when it comes to my stuff. I'm not some college kid with a studio full of IKEA. I am a grown-up, with a B&B Italia sofa and a burgeoning art collection. I am more than willing to pay for the careful transport of my belongings. The question was, who do I trust? After doing the research on the "pod" companies (Red Box, Smart Box, PODS, etc.) it was clear that for my needs, PODS was the way to go (stay tuned for a review on them once my interstate move is completed). Because you can't park a PODS unit on a major city street, you need a 3rd party mover to load and then reload your stuff. PODS has an exclusive relationship with EMS Movers. Now, I liked what I read about EMS on Yelp...but I didn't like the fact that they estimate your move over the phone; they don't come out in person. Everything I read about how to have a successful move said to run, not walk from a company that won't look at your stuff in person. Hence, my dilemma... Enter Jason at EMS Movers. This guy is 5 stars all the way...patient, reassuring, knowledgeable and did I say patient? Seriously, I've worked in customer service and Jason is an MVP! EMS is lucky to have him. I'll spare you the drama of my move. Suffice it to say, Chris and his crew did a terrific job packing and moving my belongings. They were even able to fit it all in to one container (as opposed to the 2 I expected to need)...that's another benefit to having professionals pack your stuff. Jason, you rock my man! Bearded Brothers had wonderfully competitive pricing for three very polite, hard-working men, and a big 26' truck. Major points here: this moving company is a local, woman-owned business that employs awesome veterans: heck yeah on both of those fronts!! So into it! I was moving about 200 boxes of collectible books, another 100 tubs/boxes of miscellaneous fragile stuff, and like 10-12 pieces of big, very heavy, antique furniture (family heirlooms). The guys took care to wrap and move my stuff, which gave me some piece of mind during a hectic time. A couple of my very heavy items shifted during transport causing some damage to a couple of my plastic tubs and book boxes, but honestly I blame that on crappy houston roads... I contacted the owner about this though and she offered to credit me some time from the move to compensate for the damage, which was very nice. My three lovely movers were Alex, Kelly, and Marcos, and I would definitely work with them again! Win-win all the way around!

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with this company. What should have been a…read morerelatively simple move from a studio apartment to a one-bedroom approximately four minutes away turned into a SIX-HOUR ordeal that cost more than twice what I expected, left scuffs on my furniture and the walls of my new apartment, and was made worse by the owner's condescending and unprofessional response when I raised legitimate concerns. The communication issues began before the move. I had to call three separate times just to receive a quote, despite repeatedly being told one would be sent. I continued pursuing the company because I genuinely wanted to support a Black-owned business, but I should not have had to work that hard simply to give a company my business. Before booking, I spoke directly with Jay, the owner, and specifically described my inventory and move. I was moving from a STUDIO to a ONE-BEDROOM approximately FOUR MINUTES away and had already moved the overwhelming majority of my clothes, smaller belongings, and other items myself. The movers were primarily responsible for my bed, mattress/box spring, dresser, nightstand, sectional, and a limited number of boxes. Based on that information, Jay estimated approximately TWO HOURS, and I expected to pay around $300. I understood this was an estimate and would have considered three hours or somewhat longer reasonable. I did not expect SIX HOURS and a bill more than twice what I anticipated. The biggest issue was efficiency. There were two movers, and I want to distinguish between them. One was kind, professional, and worked efficiently. I genuinely appreciated him and have no complaints about his performance. The other mover was noticeably slower. Multiple trips between my apartment and the truck took close to 30 minutes, and at one point I genuinely wondered where he was. Ironically, this same mover acknowledged, "Yeah, you don't have a lot of furniture." It ultimately took approximately FOUR HOURS just to load the truck. Because this company charges hourly, efficiency directly affects the customer's bill. I never rushed the movers, interfered with their work, or complained to them about their pace. After more than three hours had passed and we had not even left my studio apartment, I simply contacted the company to ask whether what I was observing was normal. Unfortunately, Jay's response made the experience considerably worse. Rather than investigating why the move was taking substantially longer than his estimate, he became defensive and condescending. He repeatedly defended the crew by telling me he had personally trained "these boys," that they were athletes and basketball players, that they were among his "top-of-the-line" movers, and that he had never received complaints about them. He then proceeded to explain the moving process to me, suggesting that I did not realize how much furniture I had or was failing to account for the time required to carry furniture through the building, use the elevator, walk to the truck, and load it. I found this incredibly patronizing and completely beside the point. This was my FOURTH move, and I moved into this exact studio three years ago with essentially the SAME furniture. I understand that furniture has to be carried, taken on elevators, loaded, transported, and unloaded. More importantly, Jay was the person I gave my inventory to before booking and the person who estimated approximately two hours. His own mover even acknowledged that I did not have much furniture. Ultimately, it took nearly FOUR HOURS to load and approximately SIX HOURS total to move a limited amount of furniture from a STUDIO to a ONE-BEDROOM FOUR MINUTES AWAY. And after all that time, my furniture was scuffed and marks were left on the walls of my new apartment. I understand estimates are not guarantees. But there is a significant difference between a two-hour estimate becoming three hours and a two-hour estimate becoming SIX. When a customer raises a reasonable concern about that discrepancy, the appropriate response is to investigate and address it--not argue with the customer or condescendingly explain how moving works. The excessive time, resulting cost, damage to my furniture and walls, poor communication, and especially the owner's response made this an extremely disappointing experience. I cannot recommend this company.
