L and J appliance misrepresent their fees!! The problem was a broken knob on my Wolf oven. They told me over the phone it was a $230 service charge. Technician arrived promptly and was polite and efficient. The guy took 45 minutes total to fix my Wolf oven. So far so good. Then they charged me $750 bucks!!! The part was $200. Labor was extra!!! Wtf!!! They made me believe that the service call would include labor. Nope. The $230 "service call" was to walk in the door. Labor is not part of the "service charge". Outrageous! The technician proceeded to rip her off for $1,000 for the visit (charging almost $500 for a "trip" fee and "labor" on top of that to put in a new electronic panel). This is my second (maybe third?) time to use L&J. They are not inexpensive, but they are good and they know Sub Zero products. I have an 18 y/o refrigerator/freezer (so it's made with better quality parts than the newer ones ;-) ) and I want to keep it maintained for as long as possible. Also, it is built in to the cabinetry, so it will be a project when it finally does go to refrigerator heaven. L&J is easy to schedule with, and based on the description I gave for what the unit was doing, lo and behold, smart (and courteous) Kevin (the new Kevin) showed up with just the right part. Was fixed in less than an hour. Also, he arrived right about the middle of the time window. All good, but my pocket book is a bit lighter.....it's just dang expensive to have anything done in NYC, but I've had only good experiences with this company. Y'all call 'em. :-) read more

We have a 14 years old sub-zero refrigerator/freezer. L&J had repaired it once in 2018 when the board had to be changed (the fridge turned itself off randomly). They had then done a good job so when the same thing happened late last month we called them back. We regret we did that and would advise people avoid this company: * They had to come 3 times: the first time the technician had no clue what was going on so he changed the door activated switches which fixed nothing (they knew the history btw). Same tech came back with a supervising tech this time; They changed the board but installed it wrong, the display panel was not working either (because the board was not installed right?) so they also changed that and left us with a fridge that did not work (the board was not installed right). A third tech came back and re-installed the board correctly. * The display panel change cost $641.71 (not including labor). Based on a flawed diagnostic as the board was not installed right. We are disputing this item. * Leaving the fridge broken - not testing it worked before us paying and them leaving - is beneath any standard of work. * We had to insist to have them send someone back the same day to repair their mistake. Had to speak to a manager as their staff kept pushing back ("we can't do it today", "the technicians are back in NJ", etc ....) * The manager stuck blindly with his technician's assessment that the display had to be changed (when such technicians left our fridge broken and had changed the switches/shot in the dark prior). So, you may get lucky like we did in 2018, but you may also make an expensive mistake as we did by calling them the second time. Some of their technicians are clearly out of their depth and unfortunately the company will not deal with that correctly when this incompetence ends to a bad outcome for the client. read more

I give up. The last time I had my interactions, it was about 2 years ago, and they went from bad to better, so my review went from 1 star to 3 as they eventually were better (though it was really sub zero, as subzero just replaced my unit). Now I have an issue with my ice maker. The unit is still under warranty, and they came to 'confirm' the ice maker was broken. They now have to order the parts. So a day wasted staying at home for them to confirm the ice maker is broken. Then a day after their visit, the bottom of the shelf of the fridge becomes a freezer. It froze a pack of chicken wings, a half watermelon. The poor salads are obviously gone. So I call back and they schedule another visit. I told him this issue only arose after his visit, and under his breadth he states I might have put more stuff in the freezer, somehow making this seem as if its my fault my fridge became a freezer a day after their visit. What are the chances? So here I am home again, hoping that they put my fridge together to at least before their initial visit so that I at least have a fridge. And who knows how long I have to wait before the parts for the ice maker come. Keep in mine when I made the appointment for the ice maker issue (my original issue) the earliest appointment was more than a week away, so I've been without my ice maker for about 2 weeks now since I initially called. I really would not choose to use them other than they are the repair people for subzeros under warranty. I am also writing to subzero b/c while I love their product and service, they really should contract better repair technicians as that is a reflection of their company. read more

If there was a rating for zero or negative stars, I would have chosen it. After four visits and $1,800 in repairs, our technician has YET to solve the problem. He assured us yesterday (Fri, Mar 16) that he had repaired the fridge and it would take 5-6 hours to return to normal cooling operations. However, we woke up today (Sat, Mar 17) and the fridge temperature was 88 degrees. In fact, he had turned our fridge into a HEATER. All of our food had gone bad overnight, and my wife's cosmetics collection purchased in Japan, which she had stored in the fridge, was ruined. She estimates the cost of the cosmetics at around $1,000. After spending $1,800 and losing her $1,000 cosmetics collection, our fridge is still warm. It is down to 75 degrees now from 88 degrees, but far from cold enough to store food. Our young children have no milk or food at home. Since L&J goes on holiday every weekend starting at 4pm Friday, there is ZERO service during the weekend. Although L&J boasts of being the "only certified Sub Zero service" in the NYC area, we think this claim is nothing but a joke, and would NEVER in 1,000 years recommend L&J to any Sub Zero owner, or any appliance owner, for that matter. They did not repair our fridge and, to make matters worse, they provided zero communication or follow up. Please save your sanity and go elsewhere for appliance repairs or purchase new appliances. The repair person came in opened the bottom of the refrigerator, did not try to find the leak of regrigerant. Did not do nitrogen test. Just gave me an estimate of few thousand dollars and even wanted to change the compressor which was working okay. Left after approx 10 mins and charged for service call. Could not be more quick and professional. The fan or compressor in my Sub 661 was making a wheezing, grinding noise. L&J came on Saturday (an exception), on one day notice, replaced the fan, all is whisper quiet again. They said if I waited, the compressor would have failed, which would have made it a much more expensive repair. Everything was super professional, L&J provided insurance certificate required by our condo on super-short notice, called 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment, were on time, fixed the problem and were gone. i, unfortunately have had to use L&J multiple times in the last 5 years. Though eventually they fix the problem, they start by sending people who don't know much. The last time I used the, around March 2019, was for a Wolf Microwave. The first guy removed it and took it back to their shop, then brought it back claiming they ran tests and now was good, then had to come back 2x because it kept blowing the fuse. At the end, upon my insistence they call and speak to Sub-Zero, they quickly learned it was a fuse in the microwave itself. A $20 fuse ended up costing me close to $500 because of LACK OF KNOWLEDGE of their technicians. My problem should've been resolved at the first visit and I should've paid only for that initial visit. Sub-Zero indeed needs to certify another company or L&J needs to get their act together. They might've lost their best people and newbies just aren't cutting it at the prices charged. read more

He came with the necessary parts (burner replacement pieces). He worked cleanly and respectfully, such as bringing a blanket to use for floor protection. He fixed the problem of the burners not always igniting and advised me how to avoid the problem from re-occurring in the future. read more

I've now taken off a day and half of work and my frig is still broken. I had the unit supposedly fixed last week for almost $1,500 and less than a week later the frig broke again. So the window was midday today. Same guy and said he fixed it again but wanted to check again on Wednesday. It's not fixed and I just threw out about $50 of food. So now a different person is coming tomorrow. I'm hopeful for that because I question the competence of the original guy. I tell everyone never to buy a subzero. Stay away from these frauds!! I have a Wolf range that is leaking gas from the range. I reached out to Reno Appliance who i bought the range from. I was told the L&J is the approved repair company for North Jersey.I called and a day later the Tech showed up and he did some looking into the issue after about 3 minutes he says the range is fine, these things don't go bad, your supply hose must have a hole in it get a plumber here. Bill was 185.00. OK so i get a plumber he comes and does his thing and says there is no problem with the supply hose or feed, i had him change it any 600.00 for that bill and still a gas leak. Call L&J again tell them what happened and they said we will send someone, i requested a different Tech, because the 1st guy was useless. New guy shows up and within minutes finds the issue but he does not have the part, he tells us he will be back in a few days.The have the Tech back in 5 days claims the problem is solved, 545.00. My wife come home from work and the kitchen smells of gas, the range still is leaking gas. I called and talk to Pete ( Total POS Wise Guy) he says we will send someone tomorrow, i said do not send either of the 2 guys that have been here before because they have no idea what they are doing. He get smart with me and i went right back and Pete says we are done you are on your own. Now i'm out about 1330.00. Reached out to Wolf and they apologized and couldn't be more helpful. I was directed to L&J Appliance by Sub Zero after my freezer defroster/heater broke causing it to make the most awful sound. I scheduled an appointment for a few days later, you call the morning of for your 3 hour time window. Francis was our repairman... He was absolutely amazing! He called me 20 minutes before he arrived, asked me a few questions over the phone and already knew which parts to bring in with him! Francis was super friendly, helpful, prompt and knowledgeable. We scheduled a follow up appointment for a few days later so that I could work out warranty coverage with Sub Zero... Sub Zero ended up covering the whole tab! Francis made a difficult situation such a breeze. The L&J staff were very pleasant and professional as well. Would 100% recommend for Sub Zero repairs!!! I tried to schedule an appointment last week with L&J and was told that they did not have any openings until this week. When I made the appointment, I was told that they couldn't give me a time until the morning of the appointment and that it would be a three-hour window. Surprise, surprise no one came during that window and no one had the decency to call and tell me when they might show up. To top it off, when I called L&J and asked when I could expect to see someone, I was told that they could not reach the technician and, therefore, couldn't provide any estimate as to when he might show up. However, I was told that they would call me when they knew something. An hour later, L&J finally called and said the technician would not be at our apt for yet another hour. I canceled the appointment. L&J might be great if you can afford to spend a day sitting at home waiting for someone to show up at their leisure. However, for those of us with day jobs, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I am surprised that Sub-Zero recommends such unreliable service technicians. read more

I have Subzero that needed a new air purifier but was working well. The service man came and replaced the part and then told me I needed a new control board. He came again and replaced it and when I got home from work the whole subzero refrigerator was dead. Lost all my food. Couldn't reach them on the phone and am concerned about having them come back. Nervous about the negative reviews, I called L&J to express concerns. The rep was respectful, understood my concerns, "noted" them (his word), and assured me that the technician assigned to me was more than competent. So, I took the leap of faith. I'm a recent widow; I wish I'd paid more attention to these things instead of relying on my beloved musician/all-around smart man to figure out the problems. But alas, now I've got to learn by trial and error. I don't think I made a mistake with l&J: my mistake was overloading the power cord (stupid a/c), and not sufficiently cleaning the what-ever-it's-called: my bad. So the cooling unit blew, and the cost to me was about 350, total: visit+labor to repair the subzero undercounter refrigerator. Those are the real problems: look pretty, but really: stupidly expensive---also my bad. Anyway: the tech, Kevin, is 5 star: he was polite, super-focused, informative, educated in his field (and more) and he fixed the problem. In truth, I was relieved that I didn't have to buy a new unit. One thing I really appreciated was that he said, up front, "This won't be cheap to fix." He didn't assume that the cost wouldn't be a hit to my budget. I thought that was a decent thing to say. And he loves his work! There might be less costly services out there; I went with the sub-zero recommendation. Finally, about the "visit" fee of $150.00. I didn't argue (but I did take off one star). Try getting a locksmith in nyc. Who knows if they have credentials, and aren't just second-story guys with a day job? read more

I have a 10 year old Sub-Zero 650 in the apartment I bought, and the previous owner had used these guys so I thought I would do the same when I had serious ice build-up in the freezer. The courteous gentleman on the phone diagnosed the problem (the door gasket had a rip, he predicted correctly) and scheduled a visit 3 days later. At 8:30am I called for an arrival window (they gave me 9 to 11am). They arrived at 9:02 parts in-hand, made the repair (including ice removal) in 20 minutes including clean-up. I would never ever use them! Watch out! I'm appalled at how I and then my husband was treated on the phone by L & J. It's a shame subzero uses this company to fix their products. But I did call subzero/ wolf and complained about them. Wolf needs to get another company in my area to fix their products. I refuse to let L & j in my house. They hung up on me and they were very rude. They yelled and me and my husband- so rude. Bad business! They don't deal with 3rd party insurance companies and I found that out now but all I needed was an estimate from them for the service fee ( that wasn't covered under wolf ) to give to my insurance company and he didn't want to give me one. Told me I should use someone else who takes 3rd party insurance! When I understood that I would pay him and get reimbursed by my company. I know they don't deal with insurance companies ( that's all he kept saying). I know the problem with my microwave - it's the panel. They came to fix it but never did because when he came he told me i would have to pay $250 for a service fee but wolf had said i was covered but i guess they neglected to tell me only covered for the part not service fee. And L & J never told me on the phone before coming out that I would have to pay them the service fee or else I would have said don't come because i have a 3rd party insurance company that would cover that. So unfortunately the man had to leave without fixing it and i apologized and felt bad he came out to my house for nothing but why would I pay $250 when I have insurance. I have to go through my insurance and he doesn't deal with that so wouldn't stay to wait for me to call them etc. I called my insurance company and I just had to email them the estimate for review. That's when I had the issue with getting that. The man on the phone ( who hung up on me before giving me his name). He said we don't give estimates, they have to come out first n see the problem. I said it's the panel and they were here with the panel already I just need an estimate so I can get reimbursed. He was rude n nasty. Told me I should use another company who uses 3rd party insurance. Who does that? I was willing to pay I just want my money back from my insurance co. He says it's $210. He didn't want to email it to be just said verbally and Then he said by the way now the service fee is double $420 because we were there already. And he won't come out unless he gets a credit card on file! Seriously. They made the mistake and never told me I would have to pay fir the service call and only my part was covered. Set up appt. to repair our ASKO clothes dryer. I told them when setting the appt that the belt was broken but when the tech showed up (on schedule) he did not have the belt with him. He claimed that they didn't know whether it was actually the belt, the motor or something else so he brought none of them. Because of the way the under counter dryer was originally installed, the tech was unable to remove it to even look at what it needed - no fault of his. However, he said it would take another visit once the dryer was able to be removed and it would cost $400-$800. I did the work to be able to remove the dryer, bought the correct belt on the internet ($40), installed it with a little effort and now the dryer is operating fine. It should be a no-brainer for a repair service to bring a belt for a dryer repair when the customer appropriately describes the issue. Not to do so guarantees a 2nd service call and charge as well as at least a week's delay in getting it repaired, none of which is good service! read more
