I've been going to this location for years.. the experience has always been good enough. Today however ... I tanned in room 17. After room 14 wouldn't turn on I was moved into this bed instead.. fine. Things happen. The room is facing the street with the blinds wide open. I'm thinking SURELY since this is a place where people get naked frequently that this isn't a two way window. SURELY if it wasn't, the woman at the desk would alert me to close the blinds, OR there would be a sign, OR the blinds would be closed. Imagine my surprise after getting naked, tanning, and dressing myself all in front of this window, when I stepped outside and could see right into the room!! This was during rush hour so I cannot even count the dozens of people that got a full view of my naked body, as well as the child care service across the street with windows facing directly towards me. Imagine my surprise to learn I put on a whole show for the city of Chicago! I'm seriously appalled. Why on planet earth would you be able to see through the window into the room people are SUPPOSED to get naked in?? This is beyond negligent on so so so many levels. read more

Horrible customer service ... Every other week they have new hours that are changed... Save yourself the disappointment and call every single time you want to go. No matter the time, just call to see if they r open bc chances are they decided to close randomly. How does this impact our monthly agreement? The salon itself is always pristine whenever I go, and booths are nice, private and roomy with hooks and chairs to hang my stuff on. Quick and great service every time. I come in every so often and I never have to wait for the bed I want to use. Always clean. Exactly what I want in a tanning place - no wait, clean, and quick so I can swoop in and out in a jiffy. I like to purchase those tanning packages where you buy several tans for a fixed amount of $$ and then you can use any bed level (for ex: $70 for 7 tans - any bed level) - then I increase which level bed I use each time I come in, so I can gradually build my tan. read more

I never have felt pressured to purchase more than I needed, they give great advice on other packages or better deals that would fit my needs better. Ok, finally my membership ran out. I can speak my little tanned mind... The facilities are fine. It's the staff. So unprofessional. They are always smoking or eating on the sidewalk outside, or eating on the counter where you check in, or eating in the waiting area. Oh my, they just are eating every single time I'm in there... They aren't friendly, don't make any effort to remember customers, or even acknowledge them. I once spent 5 minutes at the counter while the guy talked on his cell phone. HELLO, paging common sense! Anyway. Due to the staff issues, I think the beds aren't as clean as they could be, and all that entails. I'm done with them. Steadily gone down hill. My biggest disappointment was that they only have 2 stand-up booths, one that is clearly in need of some touch ups and the other that is always overheating. When it DOES get busy, it is usually a wait for a stand-up, so if you aren't picky, go ahead and lay down, just hope it's a bed with all working lights. I will give them credit for the girls being super sweet and remembering who you are when you come in, not to mention the place is super clean, but management really needs to think about ordering like 4 more stand-ups and getting some bulbs replaced. There's just something off about the ownership of this place. Twice when I've been there, there have been guys behind the counter that aren't there for the customers. Once, there were 3 people in line, 2 people behind the counter, but only one helping a customer. The other was counting money and doing other things and basically ignoring the people waiting. I felt so bad for the guy that was working because he could sense the customers' impatience. If the guy not doing any work is the owner or manager, at least acknowledge the customers! I really got the sense that the guy not working didn't give a sh*t about the customers waiting. Also, I've gone there about 10 times over 2 months and only twice did they ask me if I had my eyeware. It is mandatory they ask and see my eyeware. If they aren't following this obvious rule/law, what other rules are they not following? The place is really convenient, but there's an "ick factor" that pervades the place, so I won't be going back. read more

I go here for red light therapy, because I am already naturally tan. The staff is amazing. It's really clean and all the equipments and rooms are sterilized after every client. I enjoy going there and having 20 minutes of peace and quiet. The best part there is easy street parking and also parking lot. Love it read more

I've gone here on and off for the past 5 years I've lived in the neighborhood. I can't speak for all locations, only this particular one. Today gets the official 1 star rating for several reasons. 1. I have a lengthy last name. Usually saying the first 4 letters and moving along to the first name is acceptable. This is how it's been done for 5 years. Today a new employee gives me attitude saying if I want her to look me up, she needs the whole last name or I can't tan. It wasn't what she said, rather how she said it. Nobody likes a customer service employee who is rude and purposely unhelpful. 2. When I get into my room, it's clearly not been cleaned. So per usual, I go to the bathroom and get several paper towels. Some to stand on (I was doing a stand up bed, and you know they don't clean the floors after each tanner. Gross.) and some to wipe my sweat on after the tan (since the room wasn't cleaned there was no towel.). 3. I have to continue my rant about cleanliness. In the past I've stopped coming here because of roaches. I sent numerous staff (including a manager) photos of roaches in my room. It's often very dim in the salon, so actually seeing several roaches was terrifying. They said they've had this issue and the company won't do anything about it. They blamed it on the restaurant next door. After this happened I stopped tanning here for a while...except when desperate for something close to home. I've since been told they "took care" of their roach problem, but still, every time I come here I regret it. My apologies to the few friendly helpful people who work here, this doesn't apply to you personally. I think it's a company issue more than anything. read more

I hate you LA TAN. I hate you. This place is not only filthy, but a complete scam. The idiots they have working behind the counter don't know anything about tanning or their package deals. I VERBALLY told them to cancel my membership and the girl says okay, no problem. FANTASTIC! I'm freeee! Not so. 8 months later I receive a call from a credit agency stating to me that I owe them $400 for fees, late payments, etc. Apparently the brilliant genius girl failed to actually cancel my membership. Some might read this and think "hmmm, this girl is angry about being harassed by a credit agency for months for an isolated incident." NOPE. Remember what I said? I canceled my membership. Why did I cancel it? Let me break it down for you. 1) Mystic tanning = SUCKS. The tanning solution they use comes out chunky with dried "paint chip" looking things every time I would come out. It looked like I had been shot with a freckle painting gun. Not attractive. Clearly they do not clean it correctly. 2) Quality of the beds = not cool. They are really big and fancy but offer no substance at all. If you look closely, they use the wrong bulbs per the manufacturer's recommendations. Beds are also not completely cleaned by the MENSA children they have working here. Sometimes you'll find globs of lotion upon arrival. 3) Idiotic staff. There is actually a science behind tanning. Not a big science, but it is there. There is also a science behind running a business. The staff here has no knowledge of either. They are rude (examples: talking on the phone while you're waiting in line just to check in therefore holding you up, talking about customers/other staff members with foul language, etc). They don't know anything about the business (examples: don't know if they have clear/bronze mystic, what type of bulbs are in each bed, how much the packages even cost) and see my intro paragraph for the final straw Do not go here. Very bad. Very expensive for what they offer. And I'm not cheap, either. I'll pay for good stuff. This is not good. read more

I moved out of the neighborhood so I can't take the new manager up on his offer, but wanted to let other people considering this location that I was contacted by him to come in and see their new, positive changes. I wish I could, but because I don't live in that area anymore, it would be really impractical. 4 stars for good customer service. I was a little scared to go in here after reading some of the past reviews but have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a regular indoor tanner but after a very long winter and no time recently for a tropical getaway, I had to get some color back on my skin! I went here because it's close to home. Maybe they have changed staff since some of the other reviews because the girl at the front desk was very nice and helpful. I knew nothing about what bed options, packages, and prices they had and she was great about giving me some options but not at all pushing me to buy a package I wasn't interested in. After I paid for my package she even told me if I wait a few minutes, a bed with brand new bulbs will be open. The staff has been nice every time I've been there since. The only downside is that some of the rooms are unnecessarily dark and no radios or headsets in the rooms like I'm used to. I just bring my own iPod and headphones. And yes, there sometimes is a *slight* fishy smell from the African restaurant next door but that's not LA Tan's fault. I enjoy coming here and feel the prices are really reasonable. They offer some good daily specials on tanning packages and by the minute. read more

SCREW YOU, LA Tan on Lawrence!! To think that I actually had this place rated at 5 stars! Now that I no longer live within walking distance of this place, I will only visit here on the occasional weekend day that I am across the street at Women's Workout World. The rest of the time, I will stick with the Madison Street location. THOSE ladies are smart, helpful, friendly as hell, and are an absolute pleasure to do business with. The people at this location are a hoot. They might as hell have hired homeless people to run the place. They are unbelievably rude, and seem to have no idea what they are doing. I walked in over the weekend, and the surly girl behind the desk just scowled at me and said, "last name". After I spelled it THREE times, she inaudibly mumbled the last 4 digits of my SSN. I said politely, "I'm sorry; what was that?", She looked at me like I was retarded, and impatiently said loudly, "Your social security number! What are the last 4 digits of your social security number?!", as if I was a complete moron holding her back from discovering the cure for cancer. I was kind of a bitch to her after that, and I think I'll maintain this attitude on the rare occasion that I feel the need to waste my money here. If I still lived close enough to make this my primary location, I'd say I miss Xotic Tan terribly. read more

This is strictly based on customer service. I am so surprised about the comments on the employees. Someone was offended that they ate... People need to eat to live, I find that so silly someone would think that is rude. The employees have always been so nice to me. They remembered me after coming in just one time. They always try to have a conversation with me, whether it be small talk or getting to know their clientele. They know what they are taking about when it come to their beds and products. They give me tips to help me get the best color I am looking for. I can tell they are doing their job and are looking out for my safety. I have never thought any employee was rude or rushing me into a bed, but I also go in their open minded and without an attitude. Maybe I am just more friendly than those who have left comments so I get better service. I have yet to have a problem here! read more

First I wanna say I've been an LA TAN customer for over 7 years now mainly west loop and Bryn Mawr locations, I've been to this location back in 2014 or so with no issues, however I just moved to the neighborhood and decided to go in for the Monday special which I get every other week! I walk in and tell the girl I want level3 spray which per the special is $10.00 She says it's $35.00 I referred to the special she says the machine is broken and I can use the versa spa but there's an up charge of $12.00 and I'd have to pay $20.00 (hmmm simple math doesn't add up) but that wasn't even worth addressing. I asked her why should I pay extra if the equipment isn't functioning, customer service 101 or even common sense would say offer the next best thing to rectify the situation and apologize for any inconvenience. Oh! But wait that didn't happen lol The girl pulls out a chart about pricing and puts it in front of me and starts talking very slow as if I'm ignorant to the situation...she goes "you know the spray tan you get at the other location for the special is broken so you can get the versa spa but there's an up-charge of $12.00 to use the versa spa because it's a better machine" lol is this chick for real?? Now this is after 6:00pm so i know I'm not the only customer in here today for this special and if I were wouldn't she have a script by that time as soon as I walk in...Right! I just moved in the area and went their for the first time last night, and the girl that was working was the combination of a bitchy person having a really bad day. I was trying to be lighthearted and nice, but she was incredibly rude to me. I was absolutely appalled - I have never been treated that awful before by any employee anywhere, let alone by another person. And then she mumbled the room # and I didn't hear her so I asked her again, and she snapped at me like I just slapped her mother. I seriously couldn't believe it. Then on my way out, I said "Have a good night" maybe thinking she was just having a bad day, but she completely ignored me and gave me the cold shoulder. Seriously unbelievable. To be fair, I want to stress that my review is only based off one visit made in July before a friends bridal shower and this is only a review of the spray tanning. Pros: the girl working was a huge pro for this location. I had past used the versa pro/spa at palm beach and she was very very educated on the spray tan system they use. She suggested product but wasn't pushy. Also, there's a free parking lot in front. Cons: my spray tan experience & result. I can't remember the name of their system (not mystic or versa) but it did not turn out well. I'm a pale redhead who's only ever done spray tanning and the first red flag for me was there are no color options (ie medium, dark, etc.) Spray tanning is not a one-sized-fits-all thing and although I was told that the formula was self-adjusting I turned out extremely orange and unnatural. I did buy a package of spray tans during this visit but think I'll visit a different location and upgrade to a versa option. Too bad because this location is more convenient distance wise but I was pretty embarrassed with the way it turned out. read more
